When I woke up this morning, I realised the Christmas party wasn’t today and was tomorrow. ‘I really need to use my phone’s calendar for its intended purpose, at least I am not late for the party’. I chuckled to myself as I head to the bathroom for a quick shower and outfit change before heading downstairs for breakfast, wearing a rather simple ensemble to match my hair that was up in a bun, and my sword in its scabbard with the strap worn on my waist. Yes, you read that right, I carry a sword with me even though I also utilise guns. Old habits die hard yakow?
But on a serious note, I think that coming here was a mistake. Why? It’s because I’ve realised that being someone who killed hunters to protect the werewolves should mix with their kind and let their identity not be unknown otherwise, they would only know me as the hunter Argon Zhou’s daughter. Not the night demon, the one who had destroyed majority of hunter organisations around the world to protect them.
Too late for that now. Judging from the looks that I got from the other pack members, they were either surprise or disgusted but I wasn’t surprised nor offended considering they mostly hated me for who my father was and didn’t know of what I did to try to redeem his crimes but no one would ever see me that way again.
Even with all these glares, I was not upset because I chose to do all my jobs masked so no one knew my identity and I was willing to endure all these small things as part of a price for my unfortunate heritage, so I pretended to not see or hear them before reaching the countertop to make some tea for breakfast with a few pancakes that was made by the omegas in the pack.
Just I was about to make my way over to the door before going out the house to eat on the grass where the trees were, I was stopped by one of the alpha pack members with a few other pack members behind him growling at me like I was some criminal who offended their pack.
I can’t blame them because in the eyes of most werewolves, I’m the daughter of one of the most sadistic hunters in history who at this point, is still trying to redeem myself from my past and present by not interacting with them in any way so I can avoid those awkward conversations about who I was.
“Why is the once most cruel and evil hunter’s daughter our VIP? How is a criminal like you here on pack grounds without being dead or even injured?” He asked in a mocking tone as he and his possibly gigantic height of 190cm towered over my measly height of 160cm and I admit, it is a little intimidating with that kind of height difference but nonetheless I decide to not give in and keep my composure.
“Well, I guess it’s because your Alpha agreed to invite me and so I’m here for the party, I guess? I really don’t know why he said yes, but he did, so can you please let me out so I can eat outside and not bother you all with my ‘criminal’ presence?” I replied calmly, hoping not to start any physical fight with the pack members otherwise Jax might get me imprisoned or banished from this land without being able to give a report for the attack on what happened with Benjamin. It isn’t because he would be mad, it’s purely because it’s the pack law and he must uphold it.
“Well, I don’t think you deserve to be here so this,” He says with a smug look as he snatches the food from me and hands it to the girl behind him before he turns back, that smug expression still there, and continued “doesn’t deserve to be consumed by you because, you’re a criminal and you are the child of one which makes it worse so I shall put you in your place now, starting with……..THIS!”
And with that, he threw a punch aimed at my head but I knew he was planning to hit me somehow and right before he threw the punch I opened the door and ran out the house.
Once outside, I drew my sword out to prepare as they came out of the door growling at me but didn’t dare to shift as it was against pack law to attack a human in wolf form but it didn’t mean that they were going to go easy on me even in human form, so I had to rely on my sword skills this time.
The one who started this mess let out an animalistic growl before lunging towards me, his hands aimed at my neck, but fortunately I am able to use my blade to block him and I head butt him hard, resulting in him falling backwards onto the ground whimpering and holding his forehead in pain before I do a backflip and land on my feet as I looked back at the group who has now surrounded me and I mentally facepalm with a sigh before taking a deep breath to clear my mind and only focus on one thing, survive.
There were 2 female betas next to him lunged in next and I knew that if I don’t injure them, I’d be screwed. And I do mean that probably paralysed from the waist down or worse
I spun around to the taller of the two with a high kick to her neck in a rather painfully successful attempt to knock her out before turning around and using my sword to slice the other’s right elbow wide open, causing her to fall on her back, whimpering in pain as she cradled her arm.
“HOW DARE YOU FILTHY HUNTER!!!!” The other three alphas that were still standing yelled in anger. They decided to break the unspoken rule of no disadvantageous combat and jumped towards me while shifting in midair.
This caused me to smirk in amusement, if they thought they were going to kill me this easily, they better think again. I mean, I have 30 years of experience going after rogues and hunters so it will take more than three shifting alphas to scare me shitless.
Seeing as I would become human jam if I didn’t dodge them, I quickly ran away from their direction and leapt up a tree, running up its trunk as fast as I could before leaping backwards and into the ground behind them.
They turned around growling and snarling at me with their teeth bared, trying to intimidate me but it just doesn’t work for me. I simply gave a snicker in reply before lunging towards them while they did the same to me, claws out on their side and my sword aimed at them.
I was lucky to have this level of courage as I slashed the arm of one of them before kicking him into the tree but alas, all good things must come to an end and for me, this came in the form of being rusty as I forgot to deal with the third one.
By making the fatal mistake of not dealing with him earlier, the consequence of that would come in the form of him leaping onto me and using his fangs to bite a portion of my shoulder off, causing me to scream and fall back in pain.
I gritted my teeth in pain and glanced at my shoulder that was now bleeding profusely, I had to either bear with the pain and fight on or take a break and let them take me down. I have too much experience in this field to go down this easily.
Looking back at my shoulder, I took my shirt off and bandaged it tight just as he got ready to attack me again. ‘Ugh, I should have been more careful and not let my guard down. Let’s hope the Goddess can save my ass again this time.’ I got up and made sure the shirt was tight enough to stop the bleeding as much I could for now just as he circled me, waiting for the right time to strike.
It was foolish of both sides to wait for the other to attack but at least. it brought me some time. He finally made his move, running to build up some momentum before jumping towards my direction.
I had to survive this one for two reasons, 1: My ego and reputation, as someone who was very deadly and known to be merciless to rogues, was at stake and 2: The Moon Goddess has spent so much effort preserving me all these years, even helping me narrowly escaping my close brushes with death, I still have not paid her back yet. In conclusion, I cannot die this easily either way.
Before he could land on me, I shifted to the side as quickly as I could in that state while still holding onto the sword tightly. He turned around, growling angrily at me as we began to slowly circle each other, both parties preparing to attack again with their respective weapons all ready.
But just as we were about to engage in the final round, a terrifying howl erupted through the entire area, saving me and preventing him from moving as he bowed his head in submission while whining pitifully.
The growl came from none other than the alpha himself, Jax, he stalked in his wolf form towards us with his teeth bared at the alpha. This definitely frightened the poor pup while giving me déjà vu as I leaned on my sword for balance and tried to ignore the pain as much as I could
Even though I was in a considerable amount of pain, I somehow found the strength to still stand as straight as I could to give a bow in respect to Jax and he nodded in return before turning his attention back to the alpha, now on the floor whimpering in fear of Jax.
Jax let out a growl, possibly to get the members behind him who didn’t shift to bring us back to the packhouse for the appropriate treatment that we both required. After all, I did manage to give him a bruise somewhere, I’m sure of it.
There were 2 female betas who approached me and offered to shift so that I didn’t have to walk back myself but being ignorant of my current state, I politely declined and used my sword as a walking stick, slowly limping back to the pack house.
“It’s fine, I’ll walk by myself- FUCK!” I fell on my knees and dropped my sword, holding my bloody shoulder with sweat rolling down my face as an indication of how much pain I was actually in. The one who initially offered quickly shifted while the other took my sword before she gently picked me up and sat on her back.
Though I was too full of pride, the pain was unbearable and I reluctantly allowed them to bring back to the pack house. What happened when we got back however, would not be known as I passed out from the pain and stress of what happened that day.
