Junky Giant

It had been almost four days since I joined The Knight’s Inc. So far I have been doing well at observing my environment. I was not allotted any kind of work and had been told by our Department Head, Mr. Joshua that I will soon be included in the huge project to Design the Interiors at the new location.

The said Infrastructure is being built by The Knight’s Inc. in North America. The project was confidential hence was not discussed with anyone who was not involved in it. It helped to prevent leaking of information to the rival companies. What I have known so far, The Knight’s had many rivals.

Among them The SinClair’s were the first one on the hate list. One time they almost got their fingers on one of the projects, but thankfully the legal department was able to stop from letting the plan go south. Since then here at The Knight’s, the confidential information is not shared with any other departments.

My phone rung when I was listening to what Mr. Joshua was explaining to me. I checked the caller ID to find it was Lucy. I excused myself and picked up her call, “Hello Lucy. What’s up?” “What were you doing girl?” “Nothing. Mr. Joshua was feeding me with some history of Knight’s. Thought it might help me blend in here.”

“Oh great idea. But are you free now? Could we go and have lunch?” She almost pleaded. I checked the time. It was almost One o’clock. Oh my, I didn't see that. “Yeah it’s almost lunch time. I will meet you in the cafeteria in 10 min.” “Okay. See ya.” I went to the Cafe. It was still packed in here.

I got myself a large burger, a piece of my favourite pepperoni pizza, fries and some coke. Yeah I was gonna eat all of that! I loved every single piece of Junk made on this planet! I happily took my tray and went to search for our usual seat and found Lucy was already sitting there and glaring at me. “I am sorry, I got caught up with something.” “Don’t give me that bullshit now.” She threw those words while chewing on her sandwich. She looked at my tray and stole one of my fries. “Hey. No stealing.” She just laughed as if she did not do it on purpose. I just shook my head and let her steal it as we had conversations all the time.

While we were talking about our families I heard someone called me from behind. “Hey. Gloria right? Could I join you?” It was a guy with Light Brown hair, Lean Muscular body, Bluish Green eyes and British accent. I looked at Lucy and found her checking him out. I giggled internally. She must have sensed me, so she blushed slightly and nodded in approval.

I smiled back at him, “Yes why not?” I shifted and made some space for him to grab a seat. He got settled and introduced himself. “I am Jordan Hart by the way. The IT guy at the 20th floor.” I nodded, “I am Gloria Blossom, the new Interior Designer here and this is Lucy Hedwick our Receptionist.” He acknowledged us and continued, “Okay. How come you landed here?”

I didn’t understand where it was going, “Sorry but I didn’t get you.” He chugged down his burger and replied, “I meant, your father has the vast business of shipping. So why work here?”

Lucy was surprised. She held my shoulder with one hand and made me turn to her, “Are you by any means daughter of The JB?” I nodded my head, “Yeah. But why are you asking?” Her jaw hung open. Jordan had to close it because she kept looking at me dazzled. She looked at him and mumbled a thanks, her cheeks turning pink. “Why did you decide to even work here when your father is already a Millionaire?”

It was Jordan who asked it. I knew people were gonna pin me with that question sooner or later. I sighed and shrugging my shoulders I answered, “I did not want to be just a freeloader you know. I wanted to explore myself. I was good at Designing and stuff, so I went with it. My Mum and Dad supported me. They always taught me since I was a kid that, never rely on anyone.

That’s why I wanted to become Independent. I wanted to work for a well known company where my work would get recognised.” I finished my sentence and looked at them both. They both nodded in appreciation. A look of admiration in their eyes. We chatted for a while, finished our meals and got to know things about each other. Jordan got here after getting an IT degree from The Cambridge University. Hence the british accent. Lucy on the other hand was an Orphan and completed her Masters in English from a community college. She was approached by Haley once, when she saw her work at a small boutique, as a salesgirl. I realised that everyone was not as privileged as I was.
