“It’s not what you think it is Glo. So, stop stressing out!!” Lucy responded. I couldn’t help it! Ever since I knew about someone inside The Knight’s Inc. was responsible for the kidnapping of Amara, I was only able to think about finding out the culprits. They had such audacity to breach the security of the building and plot against The Fucking CEO’s family!
It meant that they had a hand inside the firm who offered to provide information about the Knights family. Who could it be? And what more were they capable of? Were they present at the building at that instant? Were they present at the time when she found Amara at the grocery store? My brain was pondering over who might be behind the Knights family, while I paced through the rest room.
Lucy let out a defeated sigh. She was constantly trying to make me feel at ease. She wanted me to leave the matter because she thought I was not able to help with the case. But how could I not when Amara’s life was in danger and hence instead of staying here in New York with Aiden, she was sent to his Parent’s place at Ontario.
I had a little relief thinking about she won’t be harmed there because their parent’s house was like a Palace. Even family home was smaller than his!! Being rich got its perks you see?? I remembered the times I visited their home when I was young. The time was different back then. It made me feel a gust of air washing over my whole body. My past was a bit of disturbing for me. I buried the unwanted thoughts deep where they belonged to and came back to reality.
I checked the time and it was almost 4 PM in the afternoon. Holy crap! I had to report to Aiden within 15 minutes with all the remaining designs which he suggested corrections to!! Yeah he still was not over the “I am Superior” part. I rolled my eyes in my mind. “Luce I think we should go now. Aiden will send a search party for you if you don’t attend the front desk. I will meet you at the gate at 5:00 ok?” She nodded and gave me a concerned smile stating, “I will meet you at the gate but promise me you won’t stress your beautiful curls out.” I smiled back and hugged her, “Yeah I will try not to Baby.” The reason I loved her was so simple, she was very sensible for every other person she met. She didn’t hold grudges over others for long. And she was the Best in the World. Well technically Second Best as Melanie was the First.
Speaking of which made me remember to rip her nostrils out as the brunette did not even try to contact me after she reached her fucking conference in Germany. She must have bumped into some new Chico or something. I wasn’t interested in her love life but, as her best friend I had every right to know about every single detail of her life and her whereabouts. She was basically family to me. I wanted to make sure that she was okay and having a nice time in Germany.
I took my phone out to dial ring Melanie but got interrupted by some wall colliding with my body. How the hell did that wall move around with that much speed? I shook my head and lifted my phone from the ground just to collide with the head of the wall. Ouuch! That head was not supposed to feel like a stone made of steel.
I looked up and got greeted by a face with amused baby blue eyes, blond hair trimmed to the scalp, strong and powerful jaw with sun kissed skin. “I am sorry.” He exclaimed and examined my features before adding. “What were you doing roaming around the hallway Love?” I was a bit taken aback by the mention of “L” word at the end.
With a raised eyebrow, I retorted back, “I think the person needs to be questioned about how he is roaming the corridor blindly must be you, Mr…” I took a pause not knowing his name. His features hardened as he took in the insult. The glint in his baby blue eyes now replaced with a dark shadow.
Score to Gloria! He was going to open his mouth but suddenly the door to the elevator opened and out came Mr. Williams. I scurried away quickly as he got distracted by Mr. Williams. I turned and saw the both having a talk and wondered about what they must be having in common. As if it’s your business Glo! My subconscious screeched. Phew. Screw the Weirdo, may we never meet again.
Right when I was cursing the evil guy, my phone's ringtone blasted through the corridor. A cold sweat rolled down my back as I stared at the caller ID. "Hello. Who's this?" I pretended to not know the person on the other end. "Are you really going to play that game Ms. Blossom?" Yeah.
Sadly we were on our last name basis. Again! For some reason it bothered me when he didn't even say my name. "Oh. Mr. Knight." I deliberately pressed on the last name greeting my teeth. "I didn't knew you wanted to see me." I tried to reason out and get some excuse.
"Where are you right now?" He fired back the question. I couldn't think straight when he demanded answer from me in that threatening voice of his. "I am outside your door actually. I was talking to-to- Ms. Haley. Yes. Ms. Haley was asking about my work progress." I lied.
And I hoped that he would buy my lie. The line on the other side went dead silent. I was trying to catch my breath while taking the stairs to the next floor, as the creepy guy might still be reaming the one downstairs. As soon as I took the corner to get inside the elevator, the doors opened.
There he was. Standing with one hand in his Navy Blue Pant Suit and other pressed to the ear with his phone. Which was currently connected to mine. He did not have his blazer on, meaning his white sleek shirt was folded upto his elbows. The spider veins from the wrist of his hands disappeared below his sleeve.
Sexy. Thinking that and after seeing him staring at me with his deathly gaze, my eyeballs became the size of a watermelon. I couldn't decipher the feeling of choking words in my mouth. I almost dropped my phone when I saw him narrow his eyes at me. My heart skipped a beat. Why do you fear him though? Isn't he the one who should be sorry for his behaviour?? My subconscious stated as a matter of factly.
He disconnected the phone call and came out of the elevator to stand in front of me. "Talking to Haley huh?" He caught me. Red handed. Again! How does my fate decides on its own to put him in my very owned path? Why fate? Why? His eyes landed south on my face right where my lips were located. I must have chewed on my lip absent mindedly. His eyes became a shade darker but he managed to hide it with his cold stare.
"Can I have an explaination about why you lied over the call?" His irritation was visible from his voice. With a tensed jaw he stood there now both hands in his pockets. I blurted out the first thing that came to my mind, "I am sorry I lied. But some creepy guy stalked me down the hallway. So I was late to meet you."
I described the guy as a tall, with blue eyes, tan skinned, two o'clock shadow on his face. The features on Aiden's face reflected rage. Did he know him already? Who might be the new guy in the building? I wanted to ask more questions about the stranger but suddenly Aiden gripped my forearms and pushed me to a Janitors Closet adjusant to the elevator. I protested and as usual couldn't do much against his strong grip.
He locked the door once we got inside. He shook me and asked, "What did he do to you? Tell me Ms. Blossom? What the hell the two of you were talking?" His stance was changed from irritated to suspicious. "I will tell you if you let me loose Aiden." He gulped his anger. Clearly he wanted to punch something but it would make noise and people would get to know about our situation.
I tried to maintain distance between him and me but the room was too small. I could feel his ragged breath on my cheek. Maybe because I was short and he was leaning down on me to get the answers he was seeking. The both of us came out of our stances when we heard the screeching noise of Brittany on the floor talking to some girl.
"He did nothing wrong." I tried to assure him. "He was just at the wrong time, wrong place." He did not seem pleased, "How am I supposed to believe that?" He tried to dig deeper. "Hah! After everything you just happen to not believe what I have just said?" I stated with fake amusement. His eyes searched mine. As if they were piercing through my soul. And it worked. He calmed down and took a deep breath. He ran his hand through his messy hair and cupped the nape of his neck frustratedly.
"I want you to stay the hell away from that guy." He ordered me. "I don't want to see you near him or talking to him again. It's not good for the image of the company." My neck snapped at him at lightning speed. "Hold on a sec. Why would it affect the company in the first place? How could you be so sure that I shouldn't be in the same radius as him??" Now the person confronting the other was me.
Viola! I needed him to say something. He thought for a while and wiped his face in frustration. He came even closer to me so that he could intimidate me some more. His minty breath was falling on my forehead and his icy eyes were boring into mine angrily. He gripped my shoulders once again and all I heard was his snarky reply, "If I were you I would have stayed the least of heavens distance away from that man Ava. I won't say much but I could tell you that he is a BAD NEWS. Get this thing inside your little head and come upstairs so that we can finish the work. It's almost closing time now and I have to be somewhere important later."
And with a last mean stare he just went out of the closet and vanished.
I gawked at the door. He just didn't tell me what and what not to do. I was more than capable of taking my decisions. And where the hell did he say he was going? I was too lost in staring at his scary face than interpreting the words coming out of his mouth. Why should I bother so much though. He isn't anything to me. The hell with him and the hell with his ego.
