"What are you trying to say?"
"I'm saying," he takes my hand,
"Can you read between the lines?"
The entire population of Audrey Burkes High School knows of the feud between seniors Malory Lloyd and Kyle Davidson. They’ve been opposing forces since the year of their first April Fest. Everyone –even the staff of the school- is tired of the fighting; especially when innocent students accidentally get hurt.
As the seniors face the beginning of their final year of high school, Principal Beverly discovers that, though intelligent, both Malory and Kyle’s non-academic records have become discouraging. If their actions continue, it would become more and more difficult for them to receive opportunities, even if their academic records are exceptional. She devises a plan to get them to cooperate.
Malory and Kyle must participate in the annual April Fest production as the leading co-stars. If they can cooperate by the end of the production, their long records of uncivilized behaviour towards each other will be forgotten.
Malory and Kyle attempt to cooperate, grabbing the opportunity to make a positive impact on their own future. In the process, they become entangled in the chaos of the other’s personal life. Malory learns of Kyle’s disturbing reality, and Kyle learns of Malory’s scarring past. Can these two brilliant but messy teens learn to rely on each other in the face of their silent battles?
