“What do you want?” I ask.

“What the fuck, man, I’ve been trying to call you for the past ten minutes! It’s an emergency! Didn’t you get any of the messages?” He yells.

“No. I wasn’t planning on answering your call or checking your messages at all,” I say, bitterly.

“Cut the bullshit, Ron,” he says, “It’s Olivia.”

My face goes blank. I pause in the middle of my inhalation, and exhale sharply through my nostrils. “What about her? What did you do, Kyle? I swear if she’s in danger-”

“-It’s not me,” he says, “Listen, she’s gone out on some date with this guy –he’s… he’s not a good person. She sent Malory a photo of the guy. Malory remembers his face. She knows he isn’t a good person as well as I do. We have to get to Olivia before something happens. It’s no use calling the police. If you care about Olivia at all, put everything else aside just for now. She’s going to need you.”

I scoff.

‘If’ I care about Olivia?
