What Leaves Us Broken [3]

(Kyle)

That smile.

I’ve never seen her smile like that.

Her eyes –which for the past few weeks have been dreading something unspoken of- are no longer sad. They’re slanted upwards. There are crinkles at the sides –she smiles so brightly she can’t help but form the folds on her face in all the right places. Even the grey of her eyes look brighter and more sapphire between her pairs of long lashes.

Malory Lloyd is happy. Her mom is coming home.

What’s it been?

September... October... November... damn.

Three months?

She’s been alone in this house all this time?

She’s been alone all this time?

I’d be happy too; if my parents called to say they were coming home.

It’s a feeling that Kyle Davidson –the prankster, the idiot, the moron, the genius, the stubborn ass from the senior year science class could never take away from anyone –even Malory Lloyd.

It’s a feeling I want.
