“I’m all out of coins,” he tells me with a frown, “I’ll be right back. Do you want any more for yourself?”
“I’m good for now,” I say, shaking my bag of silver coin pieces in my hand. “I’ll wait right here.”
I watch him disappear.
He’s a great guy, Dale; funny, handsome… I’m quite charmed. He’s smart, too. He’s not some nut-job with a brain the size of a pea.
I feel weird.
I feel weird being out on a date with a guy for the first time -being out with a guy alone like this –even if it’s around other people.
Again, I find myself feeling fearful that someone who knows me from church will tell my parents they saw me out with a guy.
Still, if I don’t try to grab every opportunity of freedom I can find, I’ll never be able to live feeling even a little bit genuinely happy.
I lean against the air hockey table. It’s so dark in here –it’s dark and intimate, and all around me are neon lights at the edges of the gaming stations.
