Lengths of Trust [2]

(Malory)

“He wants you to do what?” Olivia asks, baffled. She lets out a nervous, sarcastic laugh. “Malory, that’s insane.”

“It’s a good plan,” I tell her, “It’ll buy us time.”

I’m lying flat on my bed, staring up at the ceiling in contemplation while Olivia paces my bedroom floor.

“Yea, but he’s asking you to help him fabricate evidence of a sexual assault,” she tells me.

“Look,” I say, sitting up, “It’s not like I want to do this either. But if it helps Kyle to get things figured out –and if it keeps my mom and me safe for even a minute longer than we would otherwise be, then I’m going to do it.”

She folds her arms and looks at me pointedly. “Malory. Kyle will have to show Ace evidence that you’ve been assaulted and it’s going to either mean he’ll have to take photographs of you in an awful position or something like that. And who will be his accomplice for this ‘fake mission’?” She asks, scoffing, “Hayden?”
