Chapter Two

During the day he disappeared. At dusk he appeared. At night he was together.

He, a shadow that I myself do not know its shape. He looks like a human being but has two heads. He was as tall as a pole but his thinness almost equal the width of a skewer. He stinked like a carcass but only temporarily pierced into my nasal cavity. He was silent but when I was silent, he started talking.

Me, Rose Adaline. I have two brothers. My brother is a primary school teacher and my younger brother is still a high school student. Me? My life is not interesting at all. I was just a girl who did not work and even chose to take care of my grandmother who was lying sick.

The doctor said, my grandmother has no problem at all. I agree. She was a very energetic person because when I was lazy, he would whip my back with a rubber pipe and chase me to the end of the village just because he wanted to tell me to do work.

Excluding when I was late during prayer time. That's when my grandmother got energy like Usain Bolt. As the athlete from Jamaica ran, so quickly my grandmother chased me with only batik. She is a good grandmother. But the fierceness can be carried to the dream.

And during this time, she just stared at me quietly. The golden light illuminated her face with the cold breeze. As the day wore on, Ramon was probably asleep because he was tired of completing school work. Remy is still not home. Maybe he has a job everywhere.

I corrected my grandmother's position before getting up from there. My intention to close the window was delayed when the sound of the tires rubbing against the ground greeted my eardrums. I stepped cautiously because lately, there are nails everywhere.
