Chapter 8

Chapter eight

River

They popped out of nowhere. Oakley's dad is terrifying. He's this big, tall, muscular man with a beard that just adds to the scary. He's part of the local police, so these girls are screwed. My body hurts too much to do anything. I spot Oakley out of the corner of my eye, and she kicks Becca and then jumps on her.

"Told you she'd kill you."

The girl that Oakley's dad has dropped to the floor, he tells her to stay. He pulls out his phone to call, what I assume, the police.

"Sir, you need to come down here," Oakley's dad says.

Soon enough the mayor's car was by the shack and there was another figure in the car, "Sir your daughter went on another RAMPAGE!! She needs to be locked up!"

"It's not your place to tell me what to do Weston."

"LOOK WHAT SHE DID TO THIS GIRL!"

Oakley's taken off her shirt and ripped it into patches, they're filthy but if it'll stop the bleeding it'll work. She's covered in dirt, that other girl must have gotten to her, "Oakley?"

"Yes?" She's focused on keeping pressure on my leg.

"Oakley."

She looks up this time, "What?" She's got dried blood on her face.

"What happened to the other one?"

"I tied her to a tree," she looks back down, the bleeding isn't stopping.

"Wow. She must have been a pig."

"What?"

"Do you not see the dirt on you?"

I feel light headed, "Oakley," I reach for her hand, "It's not stopping, we've gone through half of your shirt."

"Dad!"

Mr. Weston and the mayor have been arguing outside while Oakley was working on me, "Yes?" he pops his head into the door frame.

"Can I go get the truck? River's got it bad," Bad is not the word that I would use but okay.

"Yes."

Oakley looks at me and smiles, "I need you to put pressure on the wound. Okay?"

I nod my head, she walks out the door but I can hear her run down the path. I know it's at least a mile from here to her house. She needs to hurry though. I wonder who that was in the car with the mayor. I think Becca has a twin, Rowan would always talk about how annoying her brother was. I'll find out about it later. Oakley has got the truck down here now she's backing up as close as she can to the door.

"I'm going to pick you up now," she talks to me as if I might explode. She scoops me up in her arms and I feel my back unstick from the floor.

"Are we going to the Hospital?" I say groaning.

"In a way," she places me in the truck bed, she's laid down towels for me. She slams the tailgate shut and the truck starts to drive towards her house. I guess she's got one of her older cousins driving. When we get to her house she hops out of the truck bed and pops the tailgate. She and her cousin drag me by the towel ends to Oakley's dining room where Oakley's mom, and all of her aunts and uncles wait for me. I forgot they all work at hospitals. They place me on the table and Oakley's mom starts to look over me.

"It's not as bad as it could be, she just needs stitches on her leg and butterfly stitches everywhere else. I've got everything I need thanks to Oakley's aunts and uncles. I'm going to put you to sleep so you won't feel anything, okay?" She slips a mask over my face and she tells me to take deep breaths.

"In and out, in and out, in and out, in and out, in and-"
