Ambush (2)

"Didn't you know? I thought that's why you came." Delaney was puzzled. 

"I didn't." Marlena's head was swirling. "I went to Ivrasea." 

While she didn't say it out loud, it was clear on her face that she was blaming herself for leaving. Delaney held her shoulders. "Hey, it's not your fault. Furthermore, now is not the time to wallow in guilt and self-pity. Your people need you." 

Marlena nodded although all she wanted was for the ground to open and gobble her up so she wouldn't need to deal with this. 

She paced as she thought about the situation. She would think Yorucia was in good hands and Cassius would take care of as many people as he could, but this was her responsibility too. Besides, Cassius was selfish. It wouldn't be surprising if he sacrificed people he considered pawns for his benefit. 

"Grandmother…" she whispered. "I have to go." 

"Hey," Delaney called after her. "Itrusia is on your side."
