You Did What?

Damon and I walked into his office together. I had taken the day off from Amethyst as this matter had suddenly taken all of our attention. We were meeting with Justin today to find out what he may have. Hopefully it was something that would tell us who this man really was and who may have hired him.

"Relax." Damon reminded me as he noticed I was slightly tensed up.

"Sorry." I bit my lip as I sat in the chair he had moved next to his.

"We're already a step ahead on finding out who he is. We have a slight upper hand here, remember that." He placed a hand on my thigh firmly to give me reassurance.

The phone on his desk began to ring. "You should probably get that." I spoke as I motioned to it.

He nodded and pulled the phone up to his ear. "Yes Stacey? Send him in." He then hung the phone up.

"Justin's arrived I take it?" I asked.

"Yes." Damon nodded just as the door to his office opened.

Justin walked in and was caught by surprise to see me here. Damon had decided to wait and tell him about me getting involved. "What's she doing here?" Justin asked as he carefully approached the desk. He then took a seat across from Damon and I.

"Kaydence has decided to be involved on the matter. Especially since the man had the audacity to go into her store." Damon answered.

Justin looked between the two of us. "Are we sure that's a good idea?" He raised a brow.

"Why? Do you think Kaydence is not capable of helping handle the situation?" Damon questioned.

"It's not that. It's just-" He paused for a moment.

"How do we even know we can trust you Justin?" I folded my arms across my chest. If he was going to question me I'd question him right back.

Damon let out a low menacing chuckle. "By how I made him piss himself that last time he was here I can assure you Love, he seems to be innocent in the matter."

"You did what?" I raised a brow at Damon.

"I had to be sure." Damon defended himself. "So I scared him a little bit. More than I planned I will admit but I had to test him."

I looked back to Justin. "So what's the problem with me working with you two then?" Clearly there was something on his mind he needed to spill.

"I just didn't think he'd want you involved in knowing exactly what he was up to the last time we worked on this together." Justin finally answered.

I glanced over to Damon. "What's he talking about?"

Damon glared at Justin and then gave a sigh. "I went down a list of people that I thought could have been potential suspects. Then we brought them in for some questioning and well, my methods may not have been the best."

Justin shifted uncomfortably in the chair. "I see I've started a conversation you both probably should have had before this meeting.'"

We both shot him warning glances. It was our way of telling him to shut up without using the words. It seemed to work as he closed his mouth and looked pretty much anywhere but us. We both turned our gazes back to each other.

"What exactly were your methods Damon?" I asked. I had a gut feeling that I may not want the answer but if I was going to be involved I needed to know what he had done when he was in his dark place.

He was reluctant but he finally answered. "I may have left some of them with permanent scarring and a few others within inches of losing their lives."

"Damon." Even I could hear the disapproval in my tone. "The answer to the problem wasn't to go piss off more people."

"I know." He nodded. "I'm working to help make things right on that end. Especially since it turned out that no one on my list had been involved to my knowledge."

"Well good." I responded.

He shifted his focus back to Justin. "Did you get those photos I emailed you of the footage of this man inside of Amethyst?"

"I did." Justin responded. "I tried running them through a few different softwares but nothing has come up. It kind of seems that this person expected you to be looking and practically wiped himself from the internet."

"Well that's fucking great." I could hear the anger and frustration in his voice even though he was trying to hold it back.

I placed my hand on his back and began to rub circles to help keep him calm. I could understand why he was feeling the way he was. Even I found it frustrating that this man seemed to have no trace. He had to come from somewhere, it was just a matter of finding out even the slightest bit of information of where.

"I'm still working on tracking the IP for the email that you had been sent." Justin informed Damon. "It seems like it may have come from a public server."

"What does that mean?" I asked.

"It means that he used a public computer." Damon sighed.

"Isn't that a good thing?" I looked between Damon and Justin. "To use a public computer you have to sign up with a first and last name. Find out where he used the computer and they may be able to tell you what alias he used. From any crime show I've ever seen it seems like an alias is usually for multiple uses."

"Huh." Justin seemed a little taken aback by the point I had brought up. "She's right. We just need to pinpoint the location."

Damon nodded. "And you had your doubts about her."

"I did not." Justin argued. "I just didn't know it was something she was willing to help take on."

"Don't lie." I glared at him. I could tell by how uncomfortable he looked that he wasn't being truthful. "Contrary to what you think you know about me, I'm not the frail helpless woman that you thought I was the entire time we were involved with each other."

"I know, I know." Justin responded. "It would seem as if I did underestimate you yet again. For that I do apologize."

Damon looked me over with a pleased smirk on his lips. "It would seem that you'll help make a great partner on this matter Love."
