Chapter 6

Once he was sure that the alien hadn't followed him, Leo sat down and pushed his back up against the walls of the tunnel. He slowly closed his eyes and stayed still for a few minutes. Without even realising, he drifted off into a light sleep.

A few minutes up the passage way, there was a train and there was something moving on the train. Something that thought they were alone but had no idea that if they walked off the train and a few minutes back to Piccadilly Circus, they would be met with the sight of Leo sleeping against the walls of the underground tunnel.

Leo woke up a few hours later and stretched. His back ached from the awkward position he had been sleeping in but he realised that if he didn't get up and move soon, he would be eaten by any aliens that came through the tunnels. Reluctantly, he lifted himself off of the ground, adjusted his bag on his shoulder and continues to walk down the passageway. He dragged his feet and kicked the stones in between the wooded planks of the track as he make his was closer and closer to the train that he didn't know was there.

In the darkness up ahead, Leo spotted a white, red and blue object. Upon closer inspection, he realised that it was a train! He hadn't really thought about the fact that if the trains weren't running, they must've stopped somewhere. A tiny spark of hope shot through him but he soon stopped himself from getting too excited as he realised that there probably wasn't someone on it.

But little did he know, he was wrong!

He pulled open the door on the back of the train and stepped inside. As he walked through the many carriages, it was dead silent. Well mostly. As he was walking through the train and past all the black seats with colourful marks on them, he heard a small whimper. The noise startled him but he bent down and looked under the seats to where he though the noise was coming from. Underneath one of the seats, was a blanket with something inside it. Leo reached out his hand to grab the thing but as his hand touched the thing, it let out a small scream. He grasped it and pulled it towards him. Once he had it close enough to him, he pulled the blanket off to reveal a small girl.

The little girl had blonde hair down to her shoulders which looked knotty. She looked about 3 or 4. She had blue eyes and she was wearing a long-sleeved, light pink top with a lilac tulle skirt. She also wore black leggings underneath the skirt and she had small black boots on her feet. In her hand, she held a small, soft, blue bunny and in the other, she clutched the white blanket of which Leo had the other side.

Leo gasped in shock, both of that there was someone else here with him in this deserted town and that someone would be so careless as to leave their child here in an alien infested town all by herself.

The little girl still looked terrified so Leo handed her back the blanket and said ' Hello, my name's Leo. What's yours?'. She just stared at him.

'What's your name?' He repeated. She just stared at him blankly keeping her mouth shut. Leo stared back hopefully but she didn't move.

All of a sudden, a loud hiss was heard not too far away, Leo and the little girl moves their heads round quickly to the source of the noise. Coming straight for them at lightning speed, was an alien. Without thinking twice, Leo grabbed the little girl and her blanket and ran as fast as he could out of the train. All the doors in the compartments were open as everyone had fled so rapidly so it wasn't difficult to escape from it. The girl had her blue bunny grasped in her right hand and the blanket in her left but she moved both her hands around Leo's neck to give her less chance of falling. On his way out of the train, he pressed the button on the left hand side which should have caused the doors to close just after they had made their way out but seeing as there was no one powering the train, it did nothing and the alien was still chasing after them.

Not sparing a second look behind him, Leo bolted up the stairs and into the dirty streets of London. As he ran down the tarmacked roads, it started to rain. He pulled the blanket over the little girl's head to keep her as dry as possible. After turning a few corners, they had finally lost the alien but in doing so, they had also gotten lost themselves. Of course Leo had been into many parts of London before including Leicester Square but whilst running, he had gone into some sort of alleyway behind flats and shops. Deciding that this was probably safer than out in the roads and open land, Leo sat down and sat the little girl in front of him. He was determined to get her name.

'What's you're name?' He asked politely although he was starting to get impatient.

She looked at him for a minute or two supposedly deciding whether or not he could be trusted but eventually she mumbled a quiet 'Elaine'.

'Elaine, that's a pretty name.' He responded showing her that he could be trusted. She didn't say anything just sat there like before and stared at him.

Just as he was about to suggest they go and find a shop with something to eat, she piped up, saying : 'Will we ever get out of here?'

Leo thought about it for a moment genuinely not knowing the answer to the question. For the sake of keeping Elaine calm and happy, he said 'I don't know Elaine, I just don't know'.
