Chapter 29 - Rules

"He is not going to appear here again. Why are you asking for my help?" Daisy did offer her help but if he would not disturb Berry again, there was no need to strike Vincent.

"I think he will become part of the Dodgeball Department. Maybe as staff but it will highly likely that he will appear as a Player," Berry spoke of his prediction.

"Will he do that? Just to torture you?" Daisy was a bit skeptical.

"Since there is a problem with his University enrollment, he may end up in the same situation as me. Working. Where will be the best place to work if not in this company and the department where his 'butler' is working?" Berry replied.

"… Is he that obsessive of you? To even do this just to bully you?" Daisy was not convinced.

"I have known him for a long time and I know what he will do. There is a chance and he will grab it," Berry added.

"Sigh~ If he indeed uses backdoor and becomes one of us, I will help you to gather evidence but even if he is the one causing the problem, his father can still back him up. You said his father has some kind of power in society, right? What is he? A politician?" Daisy asked.

"Moneylender," Berry replied.

"…" Daisy was speechless. "I don't want to ask how he has power in society and let's not continue this conversation. Everything turns so weird now," Daisy felt a headache.

"I will help if what you said happened," Daisy sighed. After that, Daisy left Berry to continue with his work. Berry met with his senior and told him only part of what had happened to reassure him. After that, they continued with their work.

For the first half of the morning, the Players focused on fitness training. In the second half of the morning, they practiced the normal dodgeball. They had a match with each other until the afternoon.

After an hour of rest, the players were brought to the Dodgeball Department where they would be playing Dodgeball Master. Not only the Players but the coaches entered the game as well. They were coaches after all and needed to coach them even inside the game.

Berry looked at the screen on one of the VR capsules and he was confused.

"Why?" his senior asked after he saw Berry's face.

"Why are all of their level below ten?" Berry asked in confusion. All of them were recruited because the company saw their potential playing the game. All of them had been playing the game for a few years but weirdly, their levels were low.

"You don't know?" the senior looked at Berry. Berry shook his head because he had no clue. The senior name was Gillen and he was trusted to train Berry. Thus, Gillen was Berry's mentor too.

"I should have explained this to you earlier. I am sorry that this escapes my mind. I forgot that you are not interested in games and should have figured that you don't know this," Gillen apologized.

"Is it that big of a deal?" Berry asked.

"Obviously. What you see right now is the rules set by the E-Sports Association and also the Sports Association under the World Government," Gillen explained. Berry nodded.

"First of all, you must be aware that these guys are Pro Players," Gillen started while he pointed at all the reserve players inside the capsules. Berry nodded again.

"Professional Gamer or Pro Player is not a title but a career. Similar to many other careers, Pro Player needs a license and they need to apply for it. It is a simple procedure. They just need to fill in some form and showed proof of what games they are playing," Gillen explained.

"Without the license, the players are not eligible to participate in any of the events, competitions, tournament, and many more things organized or approved by the association."

"Is there any difference between events that are approved by the association and normal events?" Berry was confused.

"I will explain that later," Gillen replied.

"For Players who play Fantasy, Action or Adventure RPG, they just need to record their playthrough playing any of the RPG games they played and they will get the Pro Players RPG License. With this license, they can play any RPG games professionally," Gillen continued.

"However, it is a bit different for Sports Game. As you are aware, sports games are controlled by the World Government and it is a bit strict," Gillen spoke.

"To apply for the license is easy but one person can only apply for one sport at one time. Let say you play Dodgeball this year and you decide to play football next year. For this year, you will only get the dodgeball license while next year, the dodgeball license will expire when you get the football license," Gillen explained.

"So, one player is allowed to play only one sports game," Berry nodded.

"This is not all, only Players of age 18 and above are allowed to apply for the license. Lower than 18 are not allowed," Gillen added.

"Then, here is the reason why they are all low level," Gillen spoke. "This is applied to all Pro Players. When they become a pro, they need to start from the beginning. In other words, they need to reset their previous account and start all over again."

"Really?" Berry was surprised.

"This rule is made for fairness. Everyone starts from below and no one will be above or below anyone. If they want to be above everyone, they need to be good in the game," Gillen explained.

"So, as you can see here, these guys reset their previous account and start from the beginning again," Gillen spoke while looking at all the Players inside the capsule.

"But they are amazing too. How many days is it since the new year and the lowest level is 5 and there are five of them among the new Players?" Berry spoke.

"That is because they have experience and they are not naïve," Gillen added.

"???" Berry did not know what Gillen meant.

"The rule may be set up like that but it is not like they cannot be above many people since the beginning. Experience may be the reason for their high-speed rise in level but that is not all," Gillen clued in.

"They gave their powerful equipment to someone to hold it and once they reset their account and enter the game back, they retrieve the powerful equipment back from their friends. Due to this, they can start stronger than Players who are total beginner," Berry spoke.

"Err… You can guess?" Gillen felt awkward.

"After I hear about them resetting their old accounts and I see the equipment they are currently wearing, it is not that hard to figure it out," Berry smiled.

"Still, these guys must be preparing a lot before they reset the account," Berry explained while looking at the equipment they wore.

"They must have prepared a powerful equipment for Rank 1, Rank 2 up to Rank 10," Berry spoke.

In Dodgeball Master, similar to normal Fantasy RPG games, there were limits to what the players could equip. The limits were based on the players' rank.

"There is no way someone could have the Rank 10 equipment," Gillen spoke and he continued, "These guys old account only around level 30 to Level 40. The highest rank equipment they can prepare is Rank 4."

"That low? Didn't they play since they are young?" Berry was surprised.

"It is easy to level up in Rank 1 but once you are at Rank 2, the experience needed is much more than Rank 1. Let not say about higher Rank. As of this moment, no one in the game is level 100. As for Rank 10, there are like three to four Players?" Gillen tried to remember.

"Only four players?" Berry was shocked.

"And these Rank 10 Players are all almost in their 30s and they are not anyone in our team. They are in a different team in a different country," Gillen explained.

"Then, who is the strongest in our company?" Berry asked.

"Our Major Team, team leader, Denver. He is at Rank 8, Level 75 and he will not be able to be in the U30 Team because of his age next year," Gillen replied.

"Even so, no matter the level and equipment they wear, their level will be scaled to the lowest level opponent in that battle," Gillen added.

"Will Mister Denver be in the Major Team next year?" Berry asked the obvious.

"He can be in the Major Team because there is no rule about age there unless he wants to retire," Gillen replied. "However, he is still strong and he is the backbone of our Dodgeball Team. Unless someone else can replace him, he may stay with us for a long time."

Berry and Gillen talked for a bit more before Kenny got out of the capsule and saw them chatting. Both of them were scolded and they went to do their work. Work ended and Berry got home tired. Pierre and Hardy met with the same fate too.

Since all of them were tired, they had dinner at home.

"I should play the game a bit," Berry logged in to the game.
