4 --- 2

"That was so scary." Macey half screamed as she drove her way through traffic. She was going a little too fast for Amber's comfort but she did not complain. She was probably still in shock.

"Those willers are just fucking monsters, aren't they?" She asked with her voice still raised. "I have heard about that Minx girl on social media, but she turned out to be a bigger bitch than I thought."

Amber's heartbeat quickened.  "Well to be fair, they didn't really do anything wrong."

Macey looked at her like she was crazy. "What do you mean? Didn't you just see them wreck the party?"

"Well, they didn't hurt anyone."

Macey took her eyes off the road for a second and looked at her like she had grown horns. To Amber it felt like she could see through her. Her heart beat even faster.

"You must have hurt your head. We didn't need to see them hurt anyone. We already know they are psychos."

Amber swallowed. "I am just saying we were in the wrong place. I mean, what we were doing in a party thrown by willers in the first place."

"How the fuck was I supposed to know? Grey hooked me up and said it was going to be a cool party. I am sure he intentionally left that part out. Remind me to kick his nerdy ass when I see him."

There was silence for awhile before Macey suddenly looked at her.

"Oh shit. I had totally forgotten about your leg, I saw that asshole stamp on it."

She could feel the warm throb where there was once a stinging pain. "Oh that? it's okay." She said casually.

"I heard you scream. It is probably the adrenaline. We should check it out when we stop."

"It is okay. It could have been worse though. If that willer guy had not intervened, it could have been a stampede death."

"Oh that guy. I don't really know much about him only that he just joined but don't be fooled. You can't be a saint if you are working for Victor.

Amber kept quiet. There was nothing she could do to change Macey's resolve. *How could she?* She had always shared her view.

"We are getting close to your home. Are your parents' home?"

"No, not until eight."

Macey parked her car in the driveway and they both exited the car.

"So do you have a first…?" Macey stopped short, looking down at amber's feet. "How can you walk?"

"I told you it was okay"

"You literally limped into the car while running from the party."

"I told you I wasn't hurt. I am just tired. You should go Macey."

"Stop doing that."

"Doing what?" Amber asked confused.

"What you have been doing all week, you have been pushing me away, and staying alone. Do you know what it took me to get you to attend this party?"

"The party was a disaster."

Macey chuckled."Yeah, I guess so, but that doesn't change anything. You have been so cold and distant and I know you are hiding something."

Amber's heart almost fell out of her chest." How can you be so sure?"

"Girl, I am your best friend and I have known you since kindergarten."

Amber wanted to tell her that she was fine and that she should go home. It was right on the tip of her tongue but she could not say it. Guilt swamped her; she had been lying to Macey. Something she could not remember ever doing. She steeled her mind, she had to do this and worry about the consequences later.

"Come inside." Amber said and went inside the house. They went straight into her room without saying a word.

"You are kinda scaring me, Amber." Macey said as they closed the door to her room. She gasped. "You are not pregnant, are you? You told me you weren't doing anything with Bryce.

Amber would have laughed at that if she wasn't scared shitless. "No, that's not it."

"Then what is it?" Macey asked, slight annoyance showing on her face for being clueless.

Amber looked at her dead in the eye before reaching into herself and finding that mental cork, she had put on to bottle things she wanted to hide from everyone. When she found it, she took a deep breath and removed it. Then it all came spilling out.

Macey's mouth opened in shock but was not ready for what happened next. Macey took a step backward. *Rejection.*

She saw fear in Macey's eyes along with an emotion she could not place.

"You are…" She tried to say something in shock.

"Macey, please-" Amber reached out for her but Macey took several steps backwards.

"You are one of them." She turned around and bolted out of the room.

Amber went cold with shock. *Did that just happen?*

She looked at herself in the mirror. Her eyes and hands were glowing and her red hair was shinier than normal but all she could see was a monster who was going to scare away the people she loved.

She heard Macey's car drive away and the dam broke as she shuddered and wailed in heavy tears.

Unknown to her, her will shone brighter projecting her despair.
