Sammy tossed me the rifle, and I fit it once more in the duffle bag. We began to crawling further in the toy store.
'I got an idea!' She flicked her finger up, like a light bulb being clicked on.
After Sammy shared the details of her plan, we made to it. Moving the shelves, we pushed with all our might, and put three of the four against the door. Getting behind the main counter, Sammy rested her arms on it, shotgun in hand, while I held my puny sidearm. We both aimed for the window. Sprinting in, the girl was shot on sight by Sammy, and the blast sent her body back into the horde. Some stopped to feast on the girls flesh. I also hopped she would've died instantly, unfortunate for her, she didn't. Not only was a load of shells were lounged in her, but now she was being eaten alive. Her screams were loud, disturbing for me to hear. Sammy found enjoyment in them though. Before her screams ceased to end, she yelled "I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" Many times. I popped some rounds into the heads of some zombies. Those who got too close, Sammy sent them on their butts.
'Ok, this idea seemed greater at the time,' she said, loading more shells in her pump.
'Well at least they can only enter from one way,' I swapped mags, leaving me with three left. The zombies seemed to just be coming in coming in an endless wave. 'Sammy, I got a plan, just hold 'em off!' I ran to my close right. I jiggled the door handle. As i suspected it was lock. Aiming my gun, I realized that Sammy's gun could blast the wood around the knob. 'Let's swap!' I tossed my gun, and it slide infront of her.
She then tossed me the shotgun, and took shots out the sidearm. Stepping back, I blasted the wood around the doorknob, and kicked it out.
Grabbing the last magazine on the counter top, she slide it her M1911, and came running to me.
We almost looked like bank robbers. Duffel bags strapped on us, both armed, we're just missing some mask. Entering the alleyway, we booked it. Now the street greeted us with another horde. Blocking both the left and right, we had to cut right through.
Sammy stole the shotgun back from me, and gave me the practically empty M1911. She blasted some zombies back, and we moved.
'Were so fucked.'
'We'd be more fucked if you didn't get us out the street,' she blasted a group of zombies to my side, making my ears ring horribly.
With each shot, my ears rung worse than the last. 'Don't mind it, we're partners afterall!' A zombie grabbed my ankle and I tripped. Kicking it in the head, keep it from biting me, I rolled, arms free, and shot it, killing it. Making my way up, I was stuck. The duffle bag was stuck to metal protruding out the concrete. Going to take the duffle bag off, Sammy held off what she thought was the immediate threat, but then I felt it. Being toppled, the zombies teared at my flesh. Screaming in pain, I was being eaten alive. Sammy did shoot them off, dropped her duffle bag, and freed me of mine, and she used the straps from the bags as a makeshift rope to hold me on her back. I was bleeding all over. Why was she going through this trouble to save me? Yes they didn't get any of my vital organs, but with how much blood I was losing, I was practically dead.
Trudging her way through, she hit some of undead with the buttstock, groups she sent flying, all while carrying me.
Feeling useless, I caught glimpse of a odd door, spray painted on it was the symbol of that patch from ealier. Turning Sammy's attention to it, she made her way to it. With no other option, I hope this would save her.
Slamming her shoulder into the door, it swung open, and was quick to close and lock it. Afterwards, she turned on the lights, revealing this was a gunshop, but later on used as a supply cache. Sammy then lowered me down, to rest against the wall.
I watched her walk away, to check the area I presume. Drawing short raspy breathes, it pained me for each taken. I heard a slam somewhere off where Sammy had gone. From what is "common" knowledge, It confused me how I was alive from all those bites. Tired, I slowly closed my eyes. With little conscious left, I heard someone enter the room, and then darkness.
I was moving. Well I wasn't moving, but whatever I was in was. A car perhaps? Or is someone carrying me? An answer I was provided soon when my body got slammed into something metal, and then a person's weight on me. My blindfold was lift, or ripped I should say, seeing as I was meeted by Sammy, on top of me.
Sammy smiled, 'Hey buddy ol pal.'
'What happened?'
She rolled off me, and then the van hit a bump, making her fly upward a little, then coming back down. Slithering over, she gnawed at my ropes, she tore through them. 'These ropes are very thin, not durable ya know?'
Moving my arms, I crawled over to Sammy, and freed her as well. 'So what happened?'
'Those cross dudes knocked me out, and must've took you as well it seems.'
I looked at my arms, my flesh was torn, but the blood stopped. Flexing them as well, they didn't hurt either. 'Am I zombie?'
She slapped my back, 'Zombie's aren't capable of speech! So you're fine!'
The van hit another bump.
Sammy kicked out the back door.
In response, the man in the passenger seat shot at is.
In light, I grabbed Sammy, and leapt out the back. Holding her tightly, we rolled on the rough terrain. Looking at the van, it kept driving.
'My hero,' Sammy said in a seductive tone.
'Well you helped me over and over,' I pushed her off, 'So don't think none of it.' We both stood, and looked around. on all these buildings, was a spray painted cross. The ones on the patches. Peering out the windows, and running out from the alleyways and from bushes and all.
'Looks like our hunts beginning boy!' One yelled.
'Capture them alive or dead! The run the dry if their blood!' A girl shouted.
All armed with blunt weapons and hunting rifles.
'We gotta go,' I whispered to Sammy.
Looking at the ground, she saw a metal pipe, and picked it up. 'I wanna kill some though!'
A game came running up to the two of us, and she shoved the pipe through the mana chest, pulled it out, kicked them onto the ground, and she begun to beat him till he bleed to the point of no return.
Another man came running at me, but my heart began to race. My head pounded. My arms felt like they were burning. Before I knew it, my vision turned red. Looking right, Sammy still beated the dead man, then to my left, I punched the man running at me. Blood, his blood, had spiked out his back, leaving a blank expression on him, before falling.
Sammy turned to look at me, and she laughed. 'I don't know what you did,' blood covered my fist, sinking into my veins from the outside in.
Hours went by, and I was dressed in blood. Sammy had taken out about ten, the rest, by my hands. Coming to my senses, I looked at myself. I'm a monster. Looking at the flesh of my arms, they've healed to what they looked like before, not torn to shreds. Looking at all the bodies, ripped in half, pierced, shredded and all. For once, Sammy seemed in the ok. So much blood, I couldn't even wish to live.
Bringing me back, Sammy hit my back, and turned me to face her. Placing both her hands one each of my shoulders, 'Don't beat yourself up, in this new world,' her eyes wandered, 'Yes , you may think your a monster, an unforgivable human being, someone who shouldn't be allowed to live, but,' she bite her lip and drew blood. 'You're my partner! And that won't change!'
Odd enough, those words are what I needed to hear. I went in for a hug, and she accepted it. This was nice. Since my awakening, I haven't felt this kind of comfort and reassurance. Even so, I can't ignore the fact that this area was basically a river carrying blood, and I fell in.
