The sun shined obnoxiously. Blinded, I went to cover it. Tired of hold my arms up, I rolled over, and was terrified. No it wasn't that I slept next to a girl, but rather that the girl slept with a knife. Slipping away, I got up, and stretched. Crack the bones in my knuckles, and stretching my back, I felt almost good. To top of my stretch, I cracked my toes as well. I felt wonderful. Hungry, I fixed me and Sammy a bean breakfast.
Waking, she slipped her knife in her jumpsuit, and walked over to me. 'Beans? Again? I want steak! Or maybe dog meat! What do you think dog taste like?'
'Shouldn't you stretch? Your bodies probably stiff, and wouldn't that bother you?' I grabbed the beans from above the fire with a couple leaves, nulling the effect of the gathered heat. Eating some of it, I waited for Sammy to respond before giving it to her.
She just stood there, arms crossed, 'Not gonna!' She swung her head to the side.
Knowing that getting on her bad side didn't seem the wisest, I gave her the beans.
In one gulp, she swallowed it whole.
'That was...disgusting.'
She licked her lips, 'C'mon, days a burning!' She races to pack everything up, I just sat there, admiring the quiet.
Pacing myself, I stood at last, and grabbed my bag. I could tell hers lightened from the nights rest, she now let it rest on her shoulder. We then left the barrier. Taking a glance back, I walked on. 'What is our goal anyways? Or yours I should say, because I know mine,' I moved my hands, as if trying her to convince her of something.
'I just want to kill things,' she tilted her head to look back at me, 'And I have the perfect partner to assist me!'
'I don't want to just kill things.'
'Oh?' She turned around and started to walk backwards, 'But you're a natural!' She opened her arms up for a hug, one I'd refuse. 'Rude.'
Looking at the bark of the trees, many had deep scratch marks engraved in them. Seeing as I've ran into a giant spider, two mutated types of worms, and awful leeches, not to forget zombies, I assumed it was another scary big monster. Then came a howl.
'Dog meat!' Sammy ran towards the howling.
Opening the duffel bag, I grabbed a bat, making the load lighter, me deadlier. 'I wish she would atleast act like a partner.' I mumbled to myself, following her tracks. Now surrounded by green vegetation, I couldn't find where she ran. Making matters infinitely worse, I heard rumbling from the bushes. I couldn't excatly tell which bush it was, but it didn't matter. Dead infront of me, camping flying a wolf, bright red eyes, and fur spiking up like an anime protagonist. With it's jaw wide open, it's fangs sunk right into my bat, and broke it in half. So much for "deadlier". Now the wolf circled me. With my broken bat I readied myself.
A wolf ran out from the bush behind me and went for my leg.
With late reactions, it tore off the clothe of my jumpsuit. One leaping in from the right, the other to my left, I rolled right under their synchronized attack. Getting back up to my feet, I felt something cold press to my neck.
'Hands up.'
I did as the mystery voice said.
'Drop the bat too buddy.'
I didn't disobey.
'Now walk forward and turn around.'
Maybe I'll be lucky like the times before, and Sammy will jump in the last second to save me. I turned around now, and I think I died all at once.
'Like my trophy? I think you'll fit right in with it.'
I feel to my knees, my heart shattered, gasping for air, I didn't want to believe it. She was only gone for a minute!
I saw the mans shoe infront of me, and he raised it. Kicking me onto my back, I moved myself away from him, and the wolves moved put my way. In his right hand, a revolver. His face, hidden by a gas mask, and to hide other features about himself, he wore a black jumpsuit. The arms were tied around his waist, and so he wasn't shirtless, he had a jet black hoodie, hood up, gun pointed at me, machete on his side, and head in hand.
Tears rushed out my eyes. 'You idiot!'
The man whistled, and the dogs ran up to his side.
'You told me we were partners!' I yelled, but knew it was all in vein. Sammy's head, held by her hair, was in the mans hand. You know that myth, "A person can see three seconds after being beheaded." Well I can tell Sammy saw something only she would find enjoyment in. Her stuck expression, that face she made when she laughed at anothers loss.
'I love this job,' he chambered the revolver, readying to shoot.
Mustering all my might, bravery, I knew I had to kill this guy...for her sake. As the man shot, I used my left arm to send me onto my feet, while absorbing the bullet in my right arm. With it lodged in, I knew I wouldn't live long if it doesn't get treated.
Going for another shot, he chambered his gun again.
Not giving him the chance, I used my left arm to punch him in the gut, then with my right leg, I kicked him over. Going for the revolver, his wolves jumped at me. Rolling underneath the first, and kicking the other, I picked up the gun.
The wolf that missed me, turned almost immediately.
Before it got the chance to run at me, I shot it dead.
The other, sad for it's fellow kind, had blood drool out it's mouth.
Chambering another bullet, I ran over and kicked the wolf.
Getting back up slowly, it looked at the end of my barrel.
Going to take the shot, the man tackled me over. Punching me several times in the gut, the wolf came over, and chewed into my right arm. Angering and rage filled me. Grabbing the mans neck, I refused to let go till he broke free, and tried to move back.
He coughed, gathering the air he could.
With the time I bought myself, I used my right arm to send his wolf right into him. Free, I grabbed the revolver and chambered it. One bullet into the wolf.
The man laid there. His dead pet on top of him. He simply gave me the finger.
Dropping the gun, I opened my duffle bag, and grabbed a grenade, a little something I found in the city. Pulling the pin, I tossed it at the mans balls, grabbed Sammy's head, and walked off.
Neither of us exchanged a word when we fought, but a whole conversation was told through our actions. An explosion went off. I don't regret my actions, I felt no sympathy, I felt nothing except a great loss. Finding Sammy's body, it was covered on bit marks. Putting Sammy's head in my bag, I turned to face the sudden barrage of wolves.
All at once, they came at me.
I smeared their blood of me. My hands were drenched. Walking away, I glanced once more at the bodies I left.
