Climbing down the ladder, I had to be very careful. With my arm light on, I could see some steps were rusted, and if I'm not cautious enough, one could break under my weight. Whoever designed these ladder entrances, must've been a freak. I felt as though I've been here for an hour! And I haven't even left this damn ladder yet.
Then I saw it. Light.
Placing my hands on the sides, I then placed my feet on the sides as well, quickly sliding down. Turning off my arm light, I noticed that this bunkers power was too left on like mine. Going to the middle, the room was empty, but on my left was a corridor, and on my right was another.
I chose left.
Everything seemed intact odd enough. My bunker from memory was ruined, this one is, fine. That was until I entered the computer room. All the computers were smashed but one. Running quickly to it, I tested the power button to see if it worked.
It turned on.
In a sigh of relief, I entered in my name as the password. Muscle memory perhaps? No matter, it worked. On it, was one file, opening it, my name was written. Project Heartlocke. 'Project?' I inquired. I dug more into my file, and what I read made an impression.
"Project Heartlocke will be the human races salvation. If all goes in accordance, we'll create a genetically modified human, who can harbor physical abilities that rival that of a humans. In essence, he will be given memories that will make him believe that it's his goal to lead our once great race, back in lead."
The more I read, the more angry I grew. I was no more than a simple creation. Looking at my robotic arm, or prosthetic, it felt more real than the flesh on my bones. sitting down, I felt like giving up, but an idea came to me. Looking back into the computer, I read the process used to make me. All I needed to do was to write memories down, and a personality. Overriding my computer to give me access to the creation process, I went to work.
Hours later, it was down. I clicked ENTER and waited. When the message, "Process Completed" popped up, I scurried to the neighboring room. A bunch of chambers, destroyed but two. One open, the other opening. Coming out, a naked lady.
'God, my head hurts,' Sammy said, climbing out. 'Why am I also naked?'
I ran up to her and gave a big hug, I missed her so much.
'Hey partner, answer me a question.'
'Yeah?'
'How did I come back to life? Last I remember, I was decapitated.' She scratched her butt.
'How did you remember that?' I stepped back.
'Because it happened?'
Thinking back to what I wrote, I never put it in her memory data. This was strange, and I wasn't made smart, but to be adaptive. 'What happened to your mother and father,' I have never heard the story from her, so if she can tell me, than somethings off.
'They died due to a raid,' she clenched her fist, 'And that's why I hated people,' she walked over to me and hugged me. 'That's why you're my partner.'
I blushed, but I could not NOT be confused. This sense of feeling didn't last long though. Mr.Reeves came walking in. 'What're you doing here?' I Stepped towards him, hands hidden.
Examining his facial expression, he seemed intrigued, but in a perverted manner. His right hand, on his crouch while his left hand played on his face. 'Creating human life! So it is possible!'
'You knew about this?' I grew irritated and more disturbed.
Fixing his posture, he tidied up his tie and slipped his hands into his pockets. 'Mr.Heartlocke, I knew of this for awhile now.'
'Even who I am?'
'Yes.'
Sammy hit my back. 'That's great isn't it! So tell me, what's your first name?' I glanced back at her, and she grinned.
'Project.'
'That's an odd first name.'
'Well you see my dear,' Reeves looked at me and back to her, 'It's because he was genetically made human.'
'So that's why pass by zones allows humans or humanoid figures!' She slammed her fist into her palm.
'Ok,' I regained my cool. 'So if you knew about this all, why did you need me?'
He tapped his chin. 'Needed someone to open the door.'
'And now what?'
'I'm gonna make an army, and conquer the human race.'
Now that I think about it, Dale did say that I was "one of them." Dale must've ran into other genetically made humans. 'C'mon Sammy, this doesn't concern us,' I started walking.
Sammy, following, tapped the man's shoulder, 'Goodluck crazy pervert man.' She waved him bye.
Resurfacing, me and Sammy walked past the pass by zone, and saw the colonies wall.
'You joined another colony?'
'Indeed I did.' I was still uneasy how this Sammy has all her memories. Without a clue, we just walked. Nothing interesting happened on our way back, so I'll write the events of our return.
At the gates, the guard stared at Sammy, if it weren't for him, I would've forgotten she was naked. Sammy hadn't complained to be frank. Going past, the other Guard climbed down, and gave Sammy a change of clothing. After a moment, Sammy looked stunning.
With her long gracious hair, she wore a beautiful sweater, to the standards of the apocalypse of course. It had blood stained in it, but the black and grey colour made it seemed natural. To compliment her sweater, was the only pants they had, jean's with holes where the knees are. I wasted no time. Grabbing her hand, we made our way to my apartment.
'So, what's the rush?'
'I left my oven on.'
'You have an oven?'
Going inside, the receptionist tried to stop us, but I glanced at her.
In response, she sunk in her chair.
We went up the stairs to my floor, and straight to my room. Sitting Sammy down on the couch, I went to my kitchen. Opening the freezer, it was gone. Sammy's head wasn't here. Whatever I did, it must've brought Sammy back to life, rather a clone off my memory. Sammy was back, and I have a second chance to protect her. Falling to my knees, I held in a cry. stifling it in, I clenched my shirt. 'I'll do a better job protecting you partner,' I whispered to myself.
