Chapter Twelve: The Storm

Rain pounded the walls. I tossed and turned, throwing myself all over the mattress. I could not sleep if my life depended on it. Getting up, I scratched my left arm and stepped out my room. On the couch, Sammy sat with her legs in her chest. Sliding beside her, she looked at me, then scooted towards me. 'Can't sleep?'

'Not with that fucking rain!' she fell back into my chest. 'It's loud, obnoxious, and just so damn consistent. Hasn't let up since we've gotten back!'

Sammy wasn't wrong either. Since our return, it was getting dark, and we, or at least I did, tried to go asleep.

Sammy snuggled up against me more.

'You know this isn't comfortable for me?'

'Shut up or I'll kill you.'

'Sigh'

Her chest rise and fell. She fell asleep. When she wasn't murdering others, she was gorgeous. Like a raw diamond, among the rest of the minerals.

A knock came to the front door. Gently removing Sammy, I placed her head softly on the couch arm. Opening the door, I regret not asking who it was. Swiftly, the butt of someones gun slammed into my face, and I fell back. They swung with the intent to knock me out, but I was still conscious. My nose bleed crazy. Looking up, it was Jackson Reeves.

He dropped his assault rifle, a M4A1 I believe, but it didn't matter. He walked towards me, his footsteps loud, the storm louder. Picking me up by the neck, he lifted me up.

Grabbing his right arm with mine, I twisted it, making him lose his grip. Landing, I punched him in his gut, but in return, he grabbed my arm with both his.

Quickly kicking me, he land his foot into my gut, sending me into the side of the couch.

Getting up, a lightning bolt struck, masking the sound of me sprinting for my utility belt.

Picking up his M4A1, Reeves aimed it at me.

The rain picked up even more, to where the sound of an explosion, could be hidened.

Letting loose an barrage of bullets, he shoot at me.

Rolling, I grabbed my revolver out the belt, and turned to him.

As he ran out of bullets, he went to charge at me.

Chambering, I breathed in and took the shot. Going to his body, the bullet went clean through. 'What was all that about?'

Looking at my door, two more Reeves ran in. Both armed, the started to fire at me.

Without warning, a shotgun blast came from my side, causing my ears to ring and filling the two Reeves with holes.

'I finally fall asleep, and y'all had to ruin it!' Sammy pumped her shotgun. 'Also, Heartlocke,' she looked at me with eyes filled with anger.

'Yes?' I said in a cowering tone.

'Why are there three dead men in here,' she gave a good look at them all, 'And they're identical to one another.

The rain still hasn't seized to exist.

Looking at the bodies, I formed a theory. 'Remember how you can recall a moment of death.' My tone grew serious.

'Yeah, why?'

Looking at my hands, I clenched them into fist. 'Well you did die, and although I thought you were gonna stay dead, I fo-' she pressed her pointer finger against my lips.

'Obviously you don't want to recall those memories,' she then circled behind me, wrapped her arms around my waist and hugged tightly. 'I'll make it easier for you,' she moved her lips, earily close to my ear. Then, she whispered, 'Just tell me if he can be killed, partner.'

'We can kill him.'

Lighten struck loudly, as if a thousand men charged into a battlefield, arms up.

Grabbing my cloak, I looked about. If we were gonna go out into that weather, we were gonna need coats. Unfortunately my cloaks all I have, nothing for Sammy either. Looking at her, she did this unthinkable. She tore my curtains down, and repurposed them as a cloak like mine. 'What in the actual hell!'

She raised her brow to me, 'Did I do something wrong?'

'My curtains, you ripped them down!'

She shrugged, 'Well too late there buddy,' she smacked my back, and we went out.

The rain hit and blew hard.

Our cloaks did nothing to keep us dry. Holding my cloak with one hand, other protecting my eyes, I looked around for something to catch my eye. Then I saw it from the gate side. An army of Reeves.

'Lots of blood I can spill,' she grinned.

Though the storm was loud, it didn't cloud our vision. Watching, they slaughtered many people within the colony. Seems that they're orders were simple. Kill. Them. All.

A couple clones came towards Sammy and I.

Like in a western film, we all stood, staring at one another, ready to draw our guns.

My cloak was being violently pushed by the storm, rain hitting my face, and hand ready to grab n shoot.

Sammy had her hand ready to grab the shotgun on her back, and her eyes, her eyes were filled with blood lust.

They raised their guns, all the same, no different. Counting at least ten, we were outnumbered, out gunned.

Quickly pulling out my gun, they all got strucked by lightning.

'Well looks like we were lucky.'

'Aw,' Sammy took one of their guns off the burnt corpse, some magazines as well. 'I wanted to kill them.'

The storm raged on.

Walking on, I stepped on puddles sometimes deep enough to swallow up my entire foot. Going to the broadcast tower in the middle, a figure could be seen on top of it. At once, it disappeared.

'You think that's that dude?'

'I believe so.'

Before our eyes, Jackson Reeves appeared. This one, compared to the others, was the real deal. From how he acted with his actions, already told me he wasn't a copy.

'Why are you attacking this town Reeves!' I clenched my hands into fist. 'So many of yous' are killing people who wish to live in this scary world!'

'My dear friend-'

'Don't call me that,' I clamped my teeth.

'And what did I do? Kill these people? Do what if I did!'

'It's not right!'

He swiftly grabbed me by the neck. 'Now don't tell me what's,' He smiled. 'What's right.'

Sammy went in to charge, not shooting for she may kill me, but two clones pinned her down.

Slamming me in the ground, he kept kicking my side. It hurt. I wanted to just die, let the pain cease. I felt some ribs break.

'Don't you remember how many people YOUR partner killed!' He stopped, then stomped his foot in my face.

As I lied there, defenseless, I could feel blood running down my cheek, from my nose. The rain pounding me, my body feeling destroyed. What he said about Sammy murdering those people, he wasn't wrong either. Am I just? Is my mind in the right? Slowly picking myself up, I hunched over.

'Just die,' he grabbed my shoulders, and slammed his knee into my chest.

I stood my ground.

'I knew making you wasn't wise.'

'Making me?'

'Humans discovered two things. How to make people and how to preserve the body.' He pushed me over.

Slowly, I reached for my revolver.

No use, he curbed my arm.

'I may look 30, but trust me, I'm much older. Why do you think I know so much!' He took my gun. 'Now goodbye.'

I watched that man gun down Heartlocke. I felt useless, powerless. Looking at the clones who had me pinned, the rain picked up, covering the tears I shed.
