thirty one

Me and Jake woke up at the crack of dawn, and started setting everything up for Callie's party.

I stood on my tiptoes, trying to reach high up the wall, to stick one end of a bunting.

Jake laughed and came up behind me, grabbing my legs, and lifting me higher so I could reach.

After an hours of decorating, we looked around, happy with how everything looked.

I heard Callie start to wake up, and me and Jake ran into her room.

He lifted her into his arms an I held her small hands.

"Happy birthday sweetie!" I said to her, as she smiled, eyes shining.

"It's your birthday!" Jake said to her enthusiastically and she flailed about excitedly.

The oven beeped, signalling the food was ready.

"I'm on it!" Jake jumped, handing Callie to me.

I changed her into her outfit and carried her into the kitchen.

"Wow, look at you!" Jake exclaimed, genuinely excited.

Now the food was out everything was officially ready, and soon enough, we heard a knock on the door.

Terry and Sharon, arrived first, along with afew  parents and children Jake and I had met recently, and then the squad.

Amy gaped in awe at the decorating, "did you use a binder to plan this?"

I nodded and she grinned.

We sat all the kids on the floor together (Charles included) as the adults all talked in the kitchen.

The stack of presents for Callie steadily built up on a small table.

I looked around and realised, Jake had separated from the group, and was watching the kids with a smile.

I slowly joined him and he put his arm around me as I leaned on him. "Charles really is a big baby, huh?" I laughed and Jake turned to me with a big smile. "He really is"

Callie was having the time of her life, babbling jibberish to all the other babies.

I was so happy the Nine-Nine could attend, and they seemed to enjoy themselves, surprisingly even Rosa.

The only close call was when Gina tried to enter Callie into a baby-modelling agency, but we managed to just about talk her out of it.

Soon enough, everyone was leaving and thanking us.

It felt so quiet just the three of us, as we sat down on the floor, as Callie marvelled at her many new toys, afew picture books, and clothes.

Jake and my gift to her was a scrapbook, with pictures documenting her life so far.

Hundreds of empty pages, were there, waiting for memories to be made.

It didn't mean much to her now, but when it filled up, and Callie was older, we were sure she would like it.

She yawned, and Jake chuckled at her.

We changed her into a new onesie, and tucked her into bed, as she snored softly, kissing her goodnight.

Me and Jake emerged from her room, completely exhausted.

"I guess we should clean up" I groaned.

"Orrrr... we could leave it forever?" Jake yawned.

I smiled at him. "Orrrrr... we could clear it up so we can relax tomorrowww"

Jake nodded kissing me on the lips quickly before clearing loads of plates.

I sat down on the floor, to pick up all the confetti we had chucked over her, and my eyes watered with tiredness.

I was so worn out, it was a huge struggle to keep my eyes open...

Jakes POV

I emerged from the kitchen area and looked down, seeing y/n fast asleep on the floor. My heart warmed, and I didn't want to wake her so instead I quietly cleared away all the decorations.

After everything was back to its usual state, I considered letting her sleep there, but thought back to how uncomfortable we had woken up when we slept on the couch.

It would be awful waking up on the floor.

I carefully tried to lift her off the floor, even though she was in such an awkward position. I managed to lift her, and quietly carried her to the bedroom, taking off her socks and undoing the hair and, from her hair, as I set her down on our bed.

I covered her with the duvet, and swiftly changed before slipping in next to her.

I didn't want to wake her up by cuddling so I kept to my side. It was only a minute or two before she turned in her sleep, towards me, leaning against me.

I smiled, listening to her breathing, as I slowly went to sleep.

I woke up, as Jake did, and he leaned over to kiss me softly.

"Love you" he whispered

"Love you too" I quietly said back.
