chapter 2- Dont play with God

Trees writhing and flailing, the groans of their trunks creaking being carried away by the wind. Rain Hammered the ground like an impenetrable salvo of bullets. Dismal black clouds within the distance rearing and coiling up like a snake readying itself for an attack. Lightening spat recklessly onto the pitiful landscape below. A storm was being brewed on the cold horizon promising nothing but to uproot the mightiest of pines from their soil. The darkness was creeping in and taking over the white heavenly clouds that were standing their ground with a golden streak of, a crack in the layer of final white clouds where the sun streamed through as fast as rapids, like a sign from the Gods to stop their actions.

Down Below was a team of scientists working away under the harsh and bitter conditions of the storm. It was like a warning sign to tell them to stop messing with life's coding, the team of palaeontologists and archaeologists worked the best they could in the battering conditions of the British weather. An excavation site was being worked on down below the canopy of the pines, and a never-ending pit in the middle of it all, going deep into the Earth like a wound within the Earth's Crust, within the middle of all the busy people rushing around to get the job done as fast as possible, they had been working for weeks, just to find a piece of bone that may or may not change the future but the weather thought overwise, it wanted to stop their work and didn't like what the future may bring from such a small piece of bone.

They were under orders to keep digging until it was found, a small fragment of bone, and a piece of tiny bone that contained the start of a new era. The excavation team were working to find a piece of bone, this small fragment of ancient bone, a piece of bone that unknown to the people around it, would change the future. This team was assigned to uncover a fragment of bone that contains preserved DNA that was needed for an experiment. So, to conclude, this ever so important fragile bone was necessary for the experiments of a madwoman, someone who gets high on coffee with epiphanies and ideas and takes those small ideas to completely different level of insanity. Some people see her as insane and mental whereas others saw a future of new ideas, and others close to her saw embarrassment for her ideas and saw it as something to hide, like a work of art that will never get to see the light and to conceal her insane ideas. The team worked hard through the terrible weather and powered on through the worsening weather, rain plummeting down to the forest ground like bullets and ricocheting back up and forming puddles in the already drenched floor.

They had shovels and brushes everywhere, even a digger at the excavation site, to dig up this splinter of bone. They had been looking for months for a fragment of DNA that may or may not be there but due to her nagging, and the money that she was paying, they carried on through the conditions of the weather as they worsened, like mother nature denying access for them to dig up the remains. But, despite their efforts, the storm continued to disobey by slashing at the pines above them and flogging them about effortlessly at high wind speeds.

The entire team was made up of seven people that were each specifically chosen to undergo the excavation, the leader of it all was none other than Alex Thorne, a cryptozoologist, who has undergone many a mission to find many of the myths and legends from tales and history. He once went to the great depths of Loch ness to find an ancient, scaled reptile and to the forests of North America in search of Bigfoot. The second was Gray as he liked to call himself, his full name is Grayson Dean James, a young British lad that recently had finished university and landed on his very first job as an assistant geneticist for the company, being his first job he's eager to help and lend and hand but never did he expect to land on such an extradentary and peculiar one. The third was Edith Marlowe a doctor of palaeontology had been through scorching conditions in her hunt for rare and the unique dinosaur bones for her research and collection. The next was Alfred Chadwick that had landed this job due to his younger brother Alistair being a part of the security team for the project, Alfred was trained in the ways of being a survivalist, he was resourceful and quick thinking and could survive through a cold winters night and a scorching and blistering heat of the desert, Alfred being a man in his 50s was very sceptical about joining the team due to what their result was to be but if it was to go wrong then he was the one to help fix it. The forth of the team was Bailee Reed a bright, modern smart girl that was the top of her classes with straight A's under her belt, once she finished college she aspired to travel the world in the discovery of the strange and new, as an archaeologist she wasn't sure as to why this research Lab would want her a part of the team but her curiosity grew as when she found out what they were planning and so she accepted gladly. The fifth is Kol Kingsley a young youth with a bright mind that had invented much of the technology being used on the scene and within the central facility of the scheme, born and raised in Japan and went to the best Universities due to his high intellect and to get his name in with this project could make a name for himself and be extremely excited to get started working with them. the sixth was Dayna Walters, a woman in her thirties, who was to help the team with transportation of the goods and also a highly trained woman in firearms and was a part escort and guard for the team and last but not least was Chester Clark an animal behaviourist who usually could be found in dense deep Jungles and chimpanzee sanctuaries helping out where he could and finding out new links to humans and animals alike.

Just then when a profound rumble of thunder could be heard getting ever closer someone within the excavation yells, "I've found it! It's here!" at the pinnacle of his lungs, so intense that his voice cracked midway through the word here', a head poked up from where the noise had just echoed from and yet again yells at all the dumped founded faces just staring at him in disbelief " what are you dawdling for then?!" and at those words, the rest of them got to work. They clutched their brushes and a contamination bag and sped down to Gray who braced for impact as the entire lot of them blundered and toppled their way down towards him in turmoil. Alex ran up to Gray and said "Are you sure Gray? Is that it?" He yanked it out of Gray's hands and inspected it for himself, slowly staring at the piece of bone as if it was some sort of alien artefact, " This is it" he whispered, more talking to himself then the people around him as a sort of self-note of shock and realisation that they had found some, "This is it, we've been looking for years for something this well preserved" he declared to the rest of the team that stood keenly waiting like children waiting for an ice cream truck eagerly waiting for their parents to order what they want.

After the second that seemed to drag on for a year as they stared at the fragment as if it was proof of a God as if the whole world stopped right then as they knew that their work was done, yet for a whole different team miles away it was just the beginning, they finally got to work. The first set off by getting brushes to clean the bone, carefully brushing off the piece and cleaning it of any dust and dirt that making sure to be careful as to not damage or infect it with any bacteria. Then Kol and Chester stubbled towards Alex with a futuristic glass cylinder as they carefully stepped over rocks and lumps in the ground, the tube had light blue lights within it, glowing neon and with quite a hypnotizing effect to them as if you were to stare into them the whole world around you would stop while you gazed into its lights, another glass box was laid within it that was secured still in place in the very middle with steel rods to hold it in place and stop the contents from getting damaged. They then brought it right up to Alex "here is the cryotube sir" Kol stated to gain Alex's attention as he gazed at the preserved flesh before him, he turned around when he heard Kol speak and noticed the tube before him and then gave the team permission proceed at to which Alex unscrewed the lid of the cryotube which made a gush of wind as the pressure became stable once again as if it held its breath for all that time and finally met the surface of the water. Alex carefully helped place the fragment in the tube along with Edith as they carefully placed it down within the cube inside and closed its second lid and Kol and Chester nervously stood there holding the heavy weighted tube making sure not to make any movements, like a rodent standing still hoping not to be seen while a hawk flying high above them and by then Edith processed to reseal the first lid and yet again it made a gushing noise as the air was taken out as a vacuum was made within to stop particles from contaminating the fragment, "well that's the hard part down" Chester tiredly stated as he wiped his brow with his sleeve, Alex stepped forward towards Chester and Alex and his expression changed from a light relief to a dark expression of fear and worry and said " make sure this gets there carefully, we can't afford any mistakes right now, not when we are so close, do you understand?" and. just quickly nodded in response and started to load the tube into the back of an old land rover, while slamming the door shut behind it which sounded a clunk when it slammed shut and clicked locked.

So then Alex and Edith Hoped into the Driver and passengers seats of the truck while Alfred, Kol, Chester and Grayson scrambled into the back to protect the cargo while in transport while the rest of the team stayed to tidy up and later on would regroup at the headquarters on a later date. However meanwhile the rest of the team had a long journey ahead of them to get to the HQ of the G.O.D project, it would take a tiresome ten hours to get to their destination, and with a very important and confidential cargo, there would be few stops on their way so that they avoid making any mistakes.

In a long ten hours the cargo would be within the grasp of the science team at G.O.D Headquarters and with luck they may create the thought to be impossible but for now, their precious object played in the back of a truck headed to their destination and all they can do is to wait and prepare for when it arrives, they must undergo a lot of very careful procedures to create the impossible it has taken months and months for them to get to where they are now and there are no rooms for mistakes and so they left the cargo within the protection of the young and old in a truck headed across the country.

After hours of a tiresome journey the cargo of the future was the doorstep of the unknown.? pulled the truck up to the heavily secured gateway, that was surrounded by towering conifers that screened the truth and hid it from the outside worlds like a gateway to another world, that if you were able to sneak on through they you would discover things you never thought possible.

A pair of well-armed men on the outsides of the gates approached them in the truck "security pass please sir?" the one on the side of Alex's window said that has a Shropshire accent and sandy blonde hair yet greying hair who was about his late forties Alex reached onto the dash and picked up the card and briefly handed over to the guard, who then walked over toward the card scanner and ran the thin card down the machine only to see it glow a bright neon green a couple of seconds after and so the heavy-duty gates started to drag open making a screeching noise as they did so, making some of the guards within the safety of the facility scrunch up their faces in an attempt to block put the racket of the heavy gates. As they finally pulled fully open the guard walked back over to Alex who was sat waiting nervously within the truck and gave him back his key card "the names Alistair Chadwick" he stated and shook Alex's hand "I'm glad to hear that the cargos have gotten here safely under your careful hands, it'll be a lot of stress and waiting of her shoulders I reckon. And ours, anyway won't be keeping you long head-on through the gates and wait for approval, nice seeing you this morning sir, Gooday" and Alex while not saying much from the shock of how chilled out the guy was since he was expecting strict emotionless men, started the engine and slowly drove forward down the road and to which an enormous building came into view, it was an old-style mansion with many lead-lined windows and a massive heavy double door to the front and a dark grained wood supporting it up with carved columns, and not forgetting the crowds of guards surrounding the place with their camo uniforms on, holding guns just to add to that intimidating look which got Alex thinking' why would they be wearing camouflaged uniforms? surely it would be the classic intimidating black uniforms that most wear'. He then shrugged off the thought and continued to make his way down the long road towards the antique-looking house and to the second pair of gates that surrounded the facilities. As He made his way ever closer he couldn't help but get the emotion of excitement and enthusiasm but also underneath those was the feeling of fear and worry for what he is about to discover lurking with the halls and shadows of the old mansion before him.
