MISSING EACH OTHER

I left to my cabin, as I've to attend meeting. It was a meeting held by our head designer for all our junior designers. The meeting continued for 2-3 hours and after that followed by lunch. I was very busy with my schedule that I forgot that Nikhil will leave for his office before lunch. After Lunch I went to Nikhil's cabin to check on him, but his cabin was empty. Then I realized that he must have left.

Dejected I went to my cabin and sat on my seat. Then I found a note on my table, I opened it curiously, expecting it to be Nikhil's one.

"I thought to catch up with you before leaving, but I guess you're busy. No worries, text me when you're free.

-Nikhil"

I grinned like an idiot after reading the letter. Then later, I worked on the task given to me by our head designer. And the day went like that, evening dad has come to pick me up. After going home and freshening up I decided to text Nikhil.

I texted him, "Sorry, I was busy all day and couldn't reply to your note."

And I got his reply, "Nevertheless, you decided to reply now. Thank you Miss. Saxena"

I replied, "It's Dhrithi for you"

He replied, "Sorry for that"

And like that we chatted till our dinner. Veer called me after dinner, I spoke to him for a while and after that I sent ,"Good night" to Nikhil and slept as I was very tired today.

Next day, I got ready and while breakfast mom told me that she made Halwa, She packed it in a box for Veer, as it's his favorite. She asked me to give it to Veer, in the afternoon. As it's a saturday, junior designers have a day off in the afternoon. Our head designer told me yesterday after the meeting. As, I was new. She also told me that, afternoon the head designer, manager and Raj uncle will be going for inspection of sites. So, I'll not be having any work as assistant too.

So, I decided to go to Veer's hospital for lunch and surprise him. So, I took my car with me for office. Generally, I don't take my car to office, as it would doubt everyone that how a junior designer is owning a car.

I forgot a file in our office which might be needed and Raj uncle might ask me today. So, I decided to go to our office first, pick the file and then head to Nikhil's office. On my way to our office, I received a call from Raj uncle. I answered the call,

"Good morning Miss. Saxena"

"Good morning Mr. Singh. How can I help you"

"I just called you to inform that today we don't need to go to the Ahuja's office, as it's a saturday"

I then realized that, yes we don't need to go there. I forgot about that totally.

"Thanks uncle, I seriously forgot about that."

"I know, you might not remember. So, I thought it's better to inform you."

"Sorry uncle, it should be my responsibility, to inform you. But, here I forgot and you're informing me. I'm sorry I'll take care and not repeat it next time"

"Hey, why are you apologizing. It's okay, there's nothing wrong. So, what happened if you forgot, I remembered it right? Don't feel sorry. You're new to this, it takes time to adapt for everything."

"Thank you so much Uncle. I almost reached our office, I'll be waiting for you in the office with your regular coffee."

"Ok, see you soon."

I soon reached our office, but I started feeling sad that I couldn't meet Nikhil today. I waited for uncle, handed him his coffee, explained his schedule. Then I finished my work by lunch time, but still I was feeling sad that I couldn't meet him.

Then I informed uncle and left the office soon, as I was already feeling bad.

On my way to Veer's hospital, I called him to check if he was free and luckily he was free. Soon, I drived to his hospital.

I was waiting in Veer's cabin for him. Then my phone rang, it was Nikhil.

I picked it immediately,

"Hey Dhrithi, where are you?"

"I'm in Veer's hospital. Why are you asking?"

"I came to your office, thought to meet you and then have lunch. I went to your cabin, but you were not there."

"Oh, today we have a half day. Mom made Halwa, she packed it for Veer, as it's his favorite. So, I came here, to give him"

"My bad, I thought to surprise you, so I didn't call you before coming here. I guess I should have called you before coming here."

"But why did you come to our office. As per my knowledge, there's no meeting."

"No there's no meeting today. Mr. Singh's signature was required on a file, my assistant told he'll come and get it signed. But I insisted that I'll go, so that I can meet you. But now I feel it was a bad idea."

"You mean to say, you came to our office to meet me"

"That's what I'm trying to tell since the time I called you"

"Oh sorry, Actually I forgot that we wouldn't be coming to your office today. Then Raj uncle informed me in the morning that we aren't going that's why I wasn't feeling good since morning. So, I finished my work fastly and came out. Had I known you were coming, then I would have stayed back for you"

"Shit, I think surprise don't work for us. Next time I'll call you before coming."

Then Veer entered,

"Hey, I'll call you back in 2 minutes."

And soon cut the call, even without waiting for his reply. I turned towards Veer and said, "Veer, help me"

He replied, "What happened Misti? and whom were you talking with?"

I said, "Actually, I forgot that today we wouldn't be going to Nikhil's office. I was looking forward to meet him in the morning. But later uncle told me that we wouldn't be going there. So, since then my mood is off track. I finished my work soon and came here, so that I divert my mind."

Veer said, "Great, you've done a good job. Anyway, even I'm free now. We can go out hang out for sometime, you'll feel better"

I replied, "No, Veer. Listen to me properly. Since we couldn't meet today, Nikhil has come to our office so that we can meet and then have lunch together. He called me 2 minutes back and was telling me. He's still in our office."

I waited for few seconds and then said, "Then what are you thinking?"

I replied, "I was thinking whether I should go back or just leave it like that"

He said, "If you feel that you want to go and meet him, then go. We can go out later?"

I said, "Seriously? you wouldn't feel bad, if I go?"

He said, "No, I will not feel bad. If you want you can go"

I immediately jumped from my seat hugged him tightly and said, "Oh thankyou Veer. Thankyou so much. I love you and you're the best."

He patted my back and said, "ok now call him and inform that you're coming."

I smiled at him and said, "Yeah, I'll call him right away."

I called him and he picked it after the first ring itself,

"Hey Nikhil, where are you?"

"I'm in the parking lot. Waiting for your call"

"Oh, could you wait for ten more minutes. I'm coming there"

"You're coming here. You said you were with Veer"

"Yes, I was with Veer. I gave him his box. Since you came to our office for my sake, so I thought it wouldn't be fair if you leave without meeting me. So, I'm coming there."

"Oh thankyou. But can I suggest something?"

"Yeah, of course"

"Instead of you coming here, You tell me a restaurant nearby which is this route. So, both of us can reach fastly."

"Great idea, I'll send you the address. Be there."

"Fine by me"

I cut the call and told Veer, "Veer I'm going, but don't forget to have the Halwa. Mom has specially made it for you. I'll call when I'm free, then accprding to your schedule, we can go out."

He nodded his head and I left for the restaurant.

By the time I reached, Nikhil was already waiting for me. I parked my car and went towards him.

After reaching him, I said, "Hey, good to see you"

He replied, "Good to see you too. I thought we will not be able to meet today. But I think, my day is lucky today."

I said, "Don't be so over-dramatic"

He said, "Seriously Dhrithi, I missed you."

I smiled and said, "I missed you too. You don't know how bad I felt in the morning that we weren't coming to your office"

He replied, "I understand, even I felt that same when morning my assistant said the same."

I said, "Ok, let's go inside and then talk over lunch. I'm very hungry"

He nodded and gestured me to walk in first. I smiled at him and started moving inside. It was an Indian restuarant, we sat on a corner table and ordered food. We talked about random things, and then had our lunch.
