Ambush

The night in Uufs plains were quiet. It's 01.12 A.M right now and only 5 peoples were awake that stands as a guards including me. I set my phones to ring if there are any heat sources detected more than 75 meters from it.

I connect my phone to my earphones so the only one who can hear the phone ringing are myself. So far, it's already ringing for 3 times. And so far it's probably just a small animals that are wandering around the tall grass.

There is a forest edges on the south just 300 meters from our caravans. Mr.Bird said that Uufs dwells deep insides of it. On our north a small rivers are flowings, protecting one of our sides.

It's a good thing that we camps just besides the rivers. I dont needs to worry too much about the other side because the rivers are at least a meters deeps. There will be more than enough times to knows if some monsters trying to cross it.

"Auuuuuu...auuuu....Auuuu...." Suddenly a dog howl can be heard from afar. Those howls are followed by one after another.

"It's Uufs Calling Sounds....!!!" Said Zirko who are also stands on a guards this night to alert everyones.

Everyone who fast asleeps hurriedly wakes up as they hears Zirko shouting. The guards grabbing their spears and shields that are just laying besides them when they sleeps. And the womans who are unarmed along with the childs and Mr.Bird Started to take covers by leans their back on the caravans in front of the firecamps.

"There are no heat sources detected yet in a 100 meters from here Mr.Jeff. Should i stands and guards the womans and children?" Ivanna giving me the informations and ask for her course of actions.

"Yeah, you do that and concentrates on your phones. It's darn dark to see anything outside our camps." I said and giving my order to her.

The night in this worlds are as dark as the 'free lands' in our worlds or maybe darker. Especially right now when the moons doesnt show up. Our light sources are just the campfires and the torches. There are the flashlight from the phones but i dont want to use it yet.

I cant see more than 20 meters beyond the grasslands on this plains. Right now my modern humans senses are at the mercy of our technologies. Ivanna will told me if something is coming and my phone will aslo ringing.

The Uufs howls are still can be heards one after anothers from afar. The shields wall has been made and everyones are ready to counter the threats that are yet to arrives.

I stands just behinds Mr.Tora and Sa'am, ready to wields my billhook anytimes. The atmosphere are very intense as no one knows what lurk in the darkness in front of them. Fortunately both of us knows that there is nothing within 100 meters radius.

10 minutes has passed since we've been standing and prepared for the attack. The Uufs howls already stopped a while ago. I ask Ivanna if she see something on her phone but her answers are negative.

She then tells that there are nothing in at least a 100 steps from them to Mr.Bird and all the guards. Mr.Bird then said to cease the shields wall but make another 5 guards stays awakes for the night. Mr.Bird are also choose to stays awake all the night.

The morning comes and the Uufs attack that we expected didn't happens. The caravans continues the journeys after all of us had our breakfast. Following the roads up northwest toward the rumoured ransacked Sumbuja villages.

It was past afternoons, 3 hours of walks after our usual afternoons breaks when we can see the ransacked Sumbuja villages from afar. The situations are peaceful and the grasslands that surrounding it still looks beautiful.

You wouldn't notices that the villages in the middle are destroyed if not because how quiet it is in the afternoons. Mr.Bird stopping the caravans just before the gates of the villages.

"Let's prays so their souls will guides us safely through this journeys." Said Mr.Bird. After that the whole caravans recites some kinds of prayers that are leads by Mr.Bird before we continues our journeys to cross the now dead villages.

We all take a steps insides the villages gates to make our ways toward Kahlen town. A peaceful but eerie feelings can be felt from all of us. There are many dead bodies laying on the grounds that we can see as we walks.

"There is 2 heat sources on our left just on the intersections in 60 meters Mr.Jeff. It's moving pretty slowly away from us." Suddenly Ivanna warn me about what she see on her phone.

I said to Mr.Bird that there are something that are moving away slowly from us just on our front left. He then ask me and the other 5 guards to check it. I and the other guards then jogs to the places that Ivanna mentions.

"Grrrr.....Aarff...Grrrr...." A sudden threatening bark greets us as we arrive at the said intersections.

"A strays Uufs....!!!" Said Mr.Tora that are one of the 5 guards.

'So Uufs is a huge husky....? No, It's a wolves. I never seen one in my life.' I thought to myself. Those wolves are standing near one of the villagers corpses. probably try to snatch and bring it back to the forest.

All wolves species are already extinct since 2030 so i mistake it as husky for a seconds. I dont know about the size of the wolf on our worlds but the wolfs in this worlds are pretty huge. It stands around 120 cm tall on four legs.

Any carnivores that size can easily kills a humans.

The Uufs that we encounters giving a threatening pose to us. Showing their sharps fangs while growling in hope to scare us. But they slowly retreats and runs aways after seeing us forming spearwalls and approach them.

"Oh, you never knows how glad i am as there are only 2 of them. Those strays are probably a weakling that get exiled from their groups." Said Mr.Tora.

"You're right, if there is more we'll be in troubles." I responded to his statement calmly. but deep insides i am pretty worried because he mentions that they're strays that are weaks.

'If they're weaks, then how is the strongs versions looks like.' I thought to myself a little bit worried.

After those small encounters with those strayed Uufs, we continues our journeys leaving the dead villages. I was hoping that those Uufs encounters will be the only threats that we meets in this journeys. But my hopes only last that long.

just about 30 minutes walks after we get out from the Sumbuja villages, Ivanna warned me about a lot of red dot that she detected.

"Stop The Caravans Right Now Mr.Jeff...!!!" Ivanna suddenly warns me. I then ask Mr.Bird and all of us to stop marching.

We all stopped by my commands right nows. Less than 100 meters from us, we all can see that the roads are heading insides a small forest. I then ask Ivanna again for more details.

There is a lot, 100 meters in fronts. They're not moving, but it's certainly there." She said.

"How much...?" I ask.

"42 in totals, 30 on the right sides and 12 on the left." She answered.

A 47 heat sources detected but none of them are moving. Anyone that has an IQ above 100 will definitely knows that it's an ambush. There is no other possibilities but humans, or something as intelligent as humans that can do such a thing.

I informs Mr.Bird about what awaits in front of us. Hearing that, he ordered all the guards to be ready after he ask and confirms that there is nothing that will ambush from behind to me.

"I trust you with our fate, So what should we do right now Mr.Jeff...?" He ask me as i am the one that will leads the troops in battle.

"We forms a shields walls and waits for them to comes out. There are no benefits for us to go insides their grounds." I said to him.

"Zirko, how long your arrows can reach...?" I called Zirko that are about to join the ranks. He is the most well equipped guards and also the only one who carry a bow and arrows.

"I can easily hits anything that move as far as 80 steps from us. Since we're on a higher grounds right now." Said Zirko confidently.

"Alright then, lend your spears and shields to our Sobran villages brothers that only carrying a long sticks." I said to him as i see those 4 peoples from Sobran villages already stands just in the back of the shield walls.

Everyones are surprisingly eager to fight and has no hestitations to stands in the frontlines.

"What should i do right now Mr.Jeff...?" Ivanna comes out from the caravans to ask me about her jobs.

"You're good at shooting right..? unfortunately we might needs to use some of our precious bullets." I said to her.

"I am but, Umm.....i never aimed it at humans." She said with doubful tones.

"That's why you start right now, If you're good then aim to incapitates not to kills." i said to give her a courages.

"Your targets are the one with ranged weapons. We use our lethal weapons since it can reach pretty far. Set your Uzi to manuals 1 bullet each and no burst. 1 bullets for 1 incapitates targets, Kills if you needs." I give her instructions.

"You're done when there are no range weapons on enemy sides, that also mean you dont need to shots if there are no archers. That's all, i guess." I ends my instructions.

"Understood." She said short. I can see a relieved expressions coming from her face.

"Oh and lend your polearms to one of those guys that are using a longstick. So they will feels safer." I adds.

Right now the roads that we're standing are 3 meters higher than the forest that are 100 meters in front. We're now just stands and waits until those bandits decides to come out from their forest.

Sooner or later i believes that they will decides to come out. As it will be more difficults if the days are ended for them. They will also think that they will have the adventages since it will be 42 vs 23 for them.

And like i guessed. after 1 hours of waiting, a lot of armed peoples really did comes out from the forest.
