The Dress

So you guys have all got your bridesmaid dresses?’ Alex asked Levi’s sisters.

’Yep, they’re not identical though, different styles but the same colour, navy blue.’ Tia said.

’Um about that…’ Alex trailed off. ‘I may have left the dress buying thing a little late.

‘I knew it!’ Lyla said. ‘This is why-‘

Just then Alex’s mum barged into the room.

’Girls! It’s an emergency.’

’Mum what’s wrong?!’ Alex said

‘You need to help me pick out my wedding dress.’

Alex’s jaw dropped.

‘I don’t know whether this is a prank or not.’ Maya said confused.

’Mum.’ Alex said. ‘You do realise your wedding is in two weeks right? And you haven’t even looked for a dress.’

’Oh I have! I just need help narrowing them down.’

’Like mother like daughter.’ Lyla said shaking her head laughing.

’What do you mean?’ Miss Martin said looking confused.

’I haven’t found a bridesmaid dress yet.’ Alex said sheepishly.

Her mother glared at her. ‘All of Levi’s sisters went shopping for their dresses a month ago how come you didn’t join them?’ She asked

Alex tried to remember the day Lyla asked her to go dress shopping with them.

‘Alex!’ Lyla yelled. ‘Stop playing video games with Levi and come dress shopping now!’

Alex looked at Lyla standing in the doorway of Levi’s room.

‘Lyla we are finally about to beat this game after two years of blood sweat and tears, literal tears. If you utter one more word about dress shopping and distract me so help me after the wedding you’ll wish you had left me alone today.’

Lyla stared at Alex, her mouth gaping. She backed away slowly out of the room.

’You really need to stop threatening my sisters.’ Levi said

-present day-

‘’After she verbally abused me she told be she’d look for a dress after that day so I just left her too it.’ Lyla shrugged.

’Yeah, I guess this one’s on me.’ Alex said

’Okay that doesn’t matter now.’ Miss Martin said.

’Girls.’ She said to Alex and Levi’s sisters, ‘we’re going to buy two dresses!’

All six of them walked into town and located the bridal shop where Alex’s mum had her dresses on hold.

’Okay, Maya, Tia, Lyla, Jessie, find a dress for Alex, make sure it goes nicely with yours .’ Miss Martin instructed. ‘Alex you’re with me.’

She tugged Alex to the bride section of the shop and flagged down an employee.

’Hi I’m here to look at the dresses held under Martin please.’

’of course let me just get them ready for you.’

The lady brought out three garment bags and hung them up in a dressing room. Another lady came by and gave Miss Martin some champagne and then they both left.

Alex’s mum sipped the champagne.

’Can I have a sip?’ Alex asked grinning

Her mum looked around to see if anyone was looking, then handed the glass to Alex. She took a sip and grimaced

‘This stuff looks much nicer than it tastes.’ She said. Her mum laughed and took the glass from her and set it down on a table.

‘Okay mum go try on the dresses now.’ She said shooing her mum into the changing cubicle.

A few minutes later she stepped out.

The dress was made of satin and fitted her body all the way down until her knees where it flared out, like a mermaid.

’Okay neeeext. Alex saidx

’You’re not gonna give me your opinion?’ Her mum questioned.

’Opinions after, now hurry uppp.’

The next dress started at her shoulders and was body con all the way down to her ankles.

The last dress was definitely Alex’s favourite. The top half was lace with three quarter length sleeves. At the waist the dress flared out a bit all the way down to the floor.

’I think this is the one mum.’ She said grinning.

’It is isn’t it.’ Her mum said twirling.

’That one is so much prettier than the other two did you really need my help deciding this?’ Alex asked skeptically.’

Truth is Alex,’ her mum started. ‘I just wanted to spend some time with you is all’

Alex grinned and went to hug her mother. ‘Actually, dress off first and then hug.’

Alex and her mum came out of the bride section and ran into Levi’s sisters. They had 4 dresses for Alex to choose from.

Alex looked across all four and knew immediately which one to go for. One that had a similar style to her mothers dress but not as spectacular obviously and in navy blue.

Alex grinned, ‘this wedding is gonna be sick.’
