The door clicked shut behind Sonia, but the silence she left in her wake was deafening. My mind whirled, caught in the storm of her words. I couldn’t breathe. It was as if every memory I had of us was being torn apart and reassembled into something new and hideous.
Could she have been right? Had I really been the bully all these years?
I leaned against the wall, feeling its cool surface against my back as my knees threatened to give way beneath me. All these years, I’d thought Sonia’s bitterness was born out of envy, her spite a weapon she wielded to make herself feel better. But what if it was more than that? What if I had unknowingly been the villain in her story?
