DARIO'S POV
I knew what I was doing when I left Katy without saying goodbye. She was too peaceful, too content in her sleep for me to disturb her. She needed rest—she’d earned it. But as I stood by the edge of the bed, watching her for a brief moment, something clenched in my chest. I ignored it.
Turning away, I grabbed my coat and walked out, shutting the door quietly behind me.
Outside, Sonia, Bruno, and three of my men were already waiting in the driveway. Good. I hated waiting for anyone.
Without a word, I slid into the backseat of the car with Sonia and Bruno, the others following in the second vehicle. The drive to the airport was quiet, almost unnervingly so. Maybe it was the mission ahead, or maybe they were just learning to keep their mouths shut. Either way, I welcomed the silence.
