There I was as if it were that fateful Thursday all over again. It was Lidaren with his arms ripped off and spears through his back, pinning him to the ground. Perfectionist was slung to the side unconscious from the beaten he had taken. I was the only one with enough juice left to stand. Before me, in his max power form, was the Destroyer. He was bruised and beaten but in far better standing than the three of us.
I remember the feeling of despair as I looked around to see the city in pain. Seeing it all again makes me lung forward in anger. However, it was a wave of anger with myself for letting that day come to pass, but as I lunge at them, chains fly in out of the Darkness surrounding me and bind me in place. I try to fight and break free, only to hear the voice of the man who put the chains on me.
Like a wet tongue in the ear, his voice rings out. He tells me, “Oh no, you can’t interfere. Now, like then, you are helpless.” I try to close my eyes, but I can feel small chains wrap into my eyelids and pull them open to see her run in. she is as beautiful as I remember. Then it pauses with her right in front of me. I could see her vibrant auburn hair and piercing blue eyes, so full of hope. She was dressed in her hero outfit of a white skirt and blue trim T-shirt that was torn up from the fight.
I look at her and can feel tears falling down my face as my knees begin to tremble. I then see the man walk out of the shadows. “I see what you saw in her. especially in that outfit, but I’m not much for big women.” As I hear him say this, I begin to smile through my tears, “You have no idea our wedding was planned for the next day.” I then put my arms down, and I watch his surprise. He asks, “How are you doing that?” I shrug, “You said I couldn’t interfere, so I’m not.” The scene starts back up again, and once again, I see her use her power transport. She opens a portal behind the Destroyer leading to a hellscape.
Then just like before, she gets grabbed by the Destroyer, and I hold her hand. As it is playing out, I reach into my pocket, pull out the rest of my cigar, and light it. I then mouth, “Just let go.” As I run out of energy and my grip gives out. She and they are then pulled into the other realm, and the portal closes. As I’m taking a drag off my cigar, I tell the man, “There’s one problem with this torture plan.” He asks, “And what may that be?”
I exhale and answer, “I’ve been reliving that night for three years.” Then I get a stray punch off on him, and I wake up in a chair at the office. I look over to see Lidaren and Perfectionist twitching in the chairs next to me. I slap both. “Come on, numbnuts, we got to kill this fucker.” They snap out of it, and I sling the desk out of the way. He backs up before grabbing his amulet, disappearing. I hear Lidaren tell Perfectionist, “Cast your force on the whole room.” He does, and a spark flies off the door as the scumbag gets thrown into the floor.
I walk over to him and lean over his body. “Now, you're going to tell us what we want to know."
