Chapter 7: Sirens

Sitting in his office, Hongjoong is pouring through every book he has on sirens. “The difference between Sirens and Mermaids is that mermaids can only live in water while sirens can live on land and in water.” He reads to himself.

“Kisun-ah. Be careful. You don’t want anyone to see you!” Shonwoo says as he watches his girlfriend. They are standing at the pier on a date.

The two teenagers met while working in the castle. Kisun as a maid, and Shonwoo as a guard in training. They both happened to have the day off so they went to the beach and the docks.

“Of course my love. I can control it.” The siren says with a smile as she sits down and dangles her legs over the side of the pier.

A smile appears on the other's face as he sits next to her, wrapping an arm around her waist. “I just don’t want you to get in trouble. If people find out you’re a siren you could be killed.” He says worried.

“They won’t find out. Besides I won’t change even if I touch the water. I have to sing a certain melody to do that.” Kisun says smiling at him as she leans on his shoulder. Her long blonde hair falling down her back in waves.

Her partner is just as handsome. Short brown hair, strong jawline, beautiful grey eyes, they are a match made in heaven.

“Sirens can only change form if they sing a certain melody. They know this melody by heart and don’t need to learn it.” Hongjoong reads. He looks up from the book as he hears Seonghwa stir from his bed.

“Why are you still awake?” The eldest asks sitting up and looks sleepily at his captain.

“I think Kiyeon is a siren. Come here hyung.” Hongjoong responds as he motions for Seonghwa to come over.

The eldest sighs and gets up from bed, running a hand through his hair. “A siren? Seriously?” He says leaning over to look at the book.

“Read here.” Hongjoong says pointing to a line in the book.

“Sirens eyes will change colors from their normal eye color to blue based on their emotions. Blue is a sure sign that a female is a siren.” Seonghwa reads.

Shonwoo smiles as he plays with her hair for a bit. A contented sigh escapes her lips as she looks up at him, her eyes a vibrant blue.

“Your eyes are blue again.” He comments.

“I’m happy. I can’t control it.” Kisun responds with a grin and pecks his lips.

He smiles happily, “I’m glad I can make you happy” he says and kisses her forehead.

“You really think Kiyeon is a siren? We won’t know for sure unless she sings.” Seonghwa says, looking at Hongjoong.

“Yeosang told me a while ago that she loves singing but she wasn’t allowed to. Maybe the king knew what she was.” He says, certain of himself.

“Maybe ask Yeosang if he knows. But for now get some sleep Hongjoong-ah. We can’t have a sleepy captain” Seonghwa says, messing up the others' hair and pulling him over to his bed.

“Okay okay hyung.” The captain sighs and takes off his coat and sits on the bed. He pulls off his boots and lays down on his bed. “Goodnight hyung.” He says to the older one who is already back in bed.

“Goodnight Hongjoong-ah,” Seonghwa responds with a smile and closes his eyes.

The couple has been together for four years before getting married. Both 22 now they have a small house near the castle.

“Shonwoo.” Kisun says from the restroom a bit nervous.

“Yes my love?” He asks, walking in and looking at her.

“I’m late.” She says looking up at him.

“Late for what?” He questions confused.

“My period. Im two weeks late.” She says looking down, smiling a bit. They have been trying for a couple months to get pregnant.

“Does that mean?” He says, eyes lighting up.

She looks back up, her blue eyes vibrant. “I think I’m pregnant.” She says smiling. “We should get ready and go check with the palace doctor.” She says and he nods.

“Then let’s hurry and go” he says kissing her happily and rushes to get dressed.

After a while the two arrive at the palace and go to the doctor.

The Thai man looks over at them and smiles. “What can i do for the new couple?” He asks.

The two now with smiles. “We have been trying for a few months to get pregnant, and I’m two weeks late for my period.” Kisun says with a smile.

“Alright. I’ll check you out. But you know, there is a good chance that she will be a siren like you.” The doctor says almost as if a warning. “If it’s a boy however there is zero chance as the siren gene only runs in females.” He explains and has Kisun lay down on a bed.

He grabs a spell book and mutters something under his breath and holds his hands over her abdomen. Closing his eyes he looks and a smile breaks onto his face.

“Congratulations. You are three weeks pregnant. I won’t be able to tell the gender until your second trimester however.” He says smiling.

“Thank you doctor.” She says sitting back up with a smile.

Shonwoo smiles and hugs her happily.

Almost 9 months later is the happiest and saddest day of Shonwoos life. The birth of his daughter has unfortunately caused the death of his beloved wife.

Holding the small bundle in his arms he wipes his tears away. “Im gonna name her Kiyeon.. In honor of Kisun.” He says to the doctor who nods sadly.

“I'm sorry for your loss Shonwoo-ah.” The doctor says gently before walking out of the room.

“I promise I won't let anything bad happen to you.” Shonwoo says looking down at his daughter who looks up at him with bright blue eyes.

“She's a siren,” he says softly.
