Vacant Lobby (Peter)

“Bathe in the sunlight, dance in the darkness……”-Bad_ Karma

Awhile later…..

“Hey! Pete wake up!”

I was yanked from the void of a dreamless sleep. A peaceful sleep. “A kind of sleep that I haven’t had in a while,” I thought to myself. It was true. For the past couple of week, the term “sleep” was a concept that my body just for some reason didn’t seem to understand. Minutes turned into hours. Hours turned into day. My brain was running my body into the ground, and for reasons I didn’t know why.

I turn to see Billie. Her hair was a neat mess upon her head. She had just woken up. I watched as she stretched and yawned awkwardly on the bed. I turn my head to the window. “Dusk,” I thought out loud. The sun was, indeed, setting. The earthly, beautiful shine radiated through the window bathing us in its warm glow. I turned my head back towards Billie. I watched as she brushed her hair with her hands trying to mat down the loose strands that floated in the swaying wind. I looked around. I stretched my body and wiped the drowsiness from my eyes as I readjusted to my surroundings. Billie hopped off the bed and walked to the door. “What time is it?” I asked. She looked at me and glared

“What time is it?” she asked. I looked at her confused. “What?” I asked. He eyes widen. Billie was now leaning on the back of the door that led to the hallway. “I don’t know what time it i,” she snapped, “You were supposed to wake me up remember?” The realization hit me as my mind began to space out. “Oh…Oh shit,” I mumbled. Billie rolled her eyes and let out a deep sigh.

“Luckily for us the club isn’t that far from here,” she said. I scratch my head. Billie bounces off the door. I watch as she turns around and swung the door and walked out. Silence. She was gone. I sat on the bed pondering what to do when I heard her voice. “You coming or not?” she questioned. Her voice shook me. I jumped off the bed and followed her down the stairs. “S-slow down damn,” I stuttered as I nearly fell down the stairs. I grasp the railing to catch myself and jump the last few steps into the kitchen. New aromas flood my nostrils as I recovered from my landing. “Is that cake?” I thought. I looked to see that Billie noticed also.

She walked out of the kitchen and into the dining area. I followed her. “There isn’t anyone here,” I said confused. I looked around to see the chairs up on the tables. The floors had been swept and the curtains closed. The lights had also been dimmed. “Did you see if their door was open upstairs?” I asked. She shook her head. “Their not up there,” she said.

I peek my head back into the kitchen. The door to the smokehouse was locked. “Well, they’re not outside,” I sighed. I looked around the dining room yet again. It felt weird. “I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen the place this empty,” I said, “Where do you think they went?” Billie shrugged. She didn’t know either. “There is no point in wondering. They probably just went out to get some groceries or something,” Billie mumbled, “Besides. We’re going to be late and we’re supposed to be meeting up with some people there so we gotta go.” She’s right. The club might be close, but it still took a while to get there. I patted myself down trying to make sure I had everything.

“You got everything?” she asked. I nodded my head. “You?” I asked back. She grabbed her keys from the countertop behind the register and looked back at me. “Yep! Lets go!” she exclaimed. I raised an eyebrow. “Well, your awfully cheerful all of a sudden,” I stated. She looked back at me and laughed. “Correct. I am indeed trying to get fucked up,” she said.

“Dear god,” I sighed, “If you get fucked up then who’s driving us back here?” She shrugged. “We will figure it out,” she said smiling. I smacked her hand away before she could start tussling my hair. I grunt as I glare at her. “What?” she asked, “Well be fine. Stop being such a pussy.” I click my tongue against my gums. “Anyways,” I started, “You’ve always been do first think later.” Billie took her keys and unlocked the front door to the restaurant. She opened the door and looked at me. “And I’ve turn out alright so far,” she laughed, “now bring your ass. We gotta go.” I rolled my eyes and followed her out the door.

“What ever you say captain.”
