As I began eating my breakfast after a long night, my doorbell rang as I groan in frustration “Damn, I’m eating ugh”

I walked up to the door and opened it with a frown to see a delivery man with a bag in hand.

“I didn’t order anything” I said suspiciously as he handed the bag over to me.

“It’s from a friend” he said and handed it to be, smiled and walked away.

I closed the door quietly as I thought to myself “I don’t have any friends”

I dropped the bag to open it, put my hand and brought out a beautiful long black dress. It was elegant and looked fabulously expensive.

I noticed a card underneath the dress so I picked it as it red:

Hopefully, you like it. See you at 8!

Oh.

The party. I almost forgot about that. Actually, I didn’t. I just silently hoped it wasn’t true but here we are.

I really hate fancy events. What am I saying? I hated all events because it involved people. I could fake a cold but I’m quite unbelievable in the lying aspect and of course, Steph made sure Abby would not be an excuse for not going so she took her to her Grams.

Since I had plenty of time till the event, I decided to eat my breakfast and take a much needed walk as I have been extremely occupied with school which recently started and my side job and on another hand, I was contemplating taking up another job as the bills were starting to become overwhelming.

Ugh, adulthood sucks!

I focused my attention on my now warm oats and began eating cause there was no way I was going to waste the food.

After washing the dishes and cleaning up the dishes, I went to my room and put on my favorite pair of Nike shorts with a tank and tied my hair in a bun. If I were at home, I would have put on a cap to avoid nosy mothers who see it needful to be stopping mid road to shout my name under the guise of greeting me. But here, I don’t know so many people so I guess it was safe to go without a cap.

I gave myself a once over and smiled in approval, picked up my phone and ran out the door.

As I stepped out of my apartment building, the cool breeze hit my skin and the sweet smell of coffee past through my nose. The sky was clear, devoid of clouds.

I began my walk around the city, admiring the amazing buildings and places. I kept my head clear of thoughts as I walked for God knows how long. I just walked slowly admiring things but was unfortunately interrupted by a text alert.

“I swear don’t these guys ha-” I began to mutter as I began checking my phone but I was caught short as I bumped into someone. Correction, someone’s hard chest.

I looked down to see my phone face down on the ground so I panicked and bent down to pick it up which was at the same time the stranger decided to pick it up too so we ended up bumping heads.

I hissed and placed a hand on my head, ready to shout at the stranger when I looked up and found Matt in front of me, an amused look on his face.

“Ugh, what do I have to do to get away from you guys” I rolled my eyes as he pursed his lips.

“Nice to see you too” he laughed lightly.

“Well, I can’t say the same for you” I countered and he replied with a smile, clearly unfazed. If there was one thing I couldn’t deny, Matt had the best smiles. Especially those ones that fill his eyes, and those pearly white teeth of his.

I blushed as I realized what I was thinking about and cleared my throat “What are you doing? Stalking me?” I tried to act like I wasn’t just fantasizing about his smile.

Creep.

“You wish”

“Then move” I said to him as I tried to push him away. Emphasis on tried. The guy wouldn’t just budge, he just kept looking at me like I was a comedian. So, I turned to the direction I was coming from but immediately, Matt grabbed my wrist and pushed me unto him.

“Where are you going” he breathed in my ear causing my ear to tingle and turn red. Not going to lie, that was hot, really hot that my face was completely flushed.

I quickly stepped back and cleared my throat in embarrassment as I dropped my hair from the bun to cover my face, but of course my actions did not go unnoticed by Matt who stood there, clearly enjoying the show.

“I’m going home” I muttered, my head down, ready to run away.

With a smile stretched across his face, he said “So I have an effect on you. Good”

He was happy, I could tell. But it confused me.

I didn’t want to wait and ask so I just sprinted off with one thing on my mind;

We really had that moment in the middle of the road.

After getting me home, I cleaned the apartment, showered, slept and woke up at exactly seven pm to prepare.

Since the dress was beautiful all on its own, I decided against flashy makeup and went with a more neutral one. Even though I hardly ever went out, makeup was something I learned while being idle.

I finished my makeup and soon after, wore the dress and might I say, I did not expect it to be that beautiful. The dress which was off the shoulder kind of sleeve had a tight fitting, which was sure to bring out my curves, it was also floor length with a long slit at the left that stopped mid-thigh.

In summary, the dress was beautiful.

Just as I stopped admiring the beauty of the dress, the doorbell rang as well as a text alert.

Just in time Chris.

I quickly slipped into my black heels which happened to be the only heels I had, grabbed my phone and purse and opened the door to reveal a freshly groomed Chris. His beards were nicely shaved, his hair freshly cut and where do I begin with the tuxedo.

He looked different. In a good way.

“You look very beautiful Wren” He spoke up as I quickly shut my mouth which was gaped at Chris’s entire demeanor.

I cleared my throat and gave a small smile “You clean up nice too”

REALLY? He looks good and that’s all you come up with?

I smiled as he stretched his hand, allowing me to lock my door and walk in front of him.

To say I wasn’t scared would be a lie. Heck I was terrified. Not about the party or meeting people. But about myself. I had so many terrifying thoughts of me tripping on the dress or titling my leg because I had not worn heels in a long time.

I breathed and walked slowly, Chris on my trail as we walked to the car I’m guessing was the Tesla. I mean it was the only car that stood out amongst the others, so I was quite certain and definitely correct.

He led me to the car and opened the car door for me “I have hands you know” I said with my lips pursed and his in a small smile.

He just ignored and waited for me to enter so he could shut the door.

Rude.

He got in and turned on the car then turned to me, “Sure you’re ready for this?” he asked with a nervous look.

I let out a breath “No, but fuck it”

He didn’t seem surprised to hear my reply he just put his seatbelt on, sat straight and drove off, his focus now on something else.

I sat comfortably and let the beauty of the car take up my focus as he began to drive in silence.
