(y/n) and Neji's Day Off, Picnic, Argument, and Fight

Not long had passed since Itachi's paid a visit and not a lot had changed since then. (y/n) had been digging into Madara Uchiha trying to find anything she could about him. But for the most part, was reaching dead ends. After not finding anything (y/n) sort of gave up and continued to live her life as she had before. She got closer and closer to Neji as time went by. Some people would often mistake them for a couple. But they shook it off saying they were too young. They even spent time whenever they could. Because on their days off that is when they really had fun. Especially if (y/n) could get Neji could take the day off. That did happen then again a lot of things happened that day.

It had been like every other day. Kakashi was out of town on a solo mission for much. (y/n) was home from her latest mission and Neji for once had a day off. And after much arguing, begging, and fighting (y/n) had convinced him to come with her for a fun day off. Even after he insisted he must train. She even arrived early at the Hyuga compound so he couldn't make any excuses. "So where exactly are you taking me", he asked as (y/n) as she was dragging him off somewhere.

"You'll see impatient much", she teased. As they continued to walk along before they stopped at a point and (y/n) wrapped a blindfold over his eyes. "No peeking", she said.

"Wait what", Neji said surprised about being blinded. As (y/n) continued to the training area where the stumps were. There lied a picnic blanket and basket as (y/n) set Neji down before unblinding him. "So what is this for exactly?"

"Well it's been a couple of years since we became friends so I thought we should celebrate for a change"

"Oh is that all if that is all can I go back to my training"

"Wow, how stringy can you be a cute girl cooks you lunch and you won't even try it. How rude of you Neji", (y/n) said with a pout.

Neji let out a groan before sitting back down. "Fine but afterward I am going back to training. So what is there?"

"I'm happy you asked Neji," (y/n) said with a smile before she started pulling things out of the basket.

"On today's menu, we have Karaage, Onigiri, Korokke, cutlet sandwiches, and of course your favorite food herring soba"

"Wait seriously", Neji asked looking a bit excited.

"Yes", (y/n) responded before unpacking except for the herring soba.

"(y/n) care to tell me where the herring soba is", Neji asked not happy he had been lied to.

"That is going to be coming up soon. But first, eat you are going to need your energy for later"

"(y/n) I know you are planning something so care to tell me what it is"

"Can I just treat my best friend without any motives?"

"(y/n) I know you well enough to know when you are plotting something. So skip let's formalities and you tell me what you are planning"

"I can never get anything past you Neji", (y/n) said with a chuckle. "I may have overstretched when I said I made some. So I was thinking we could spend some time making some together"

"Fine it's not like I have anything better to do", Neji said with a groan as he took a bite to eat. (y/n) smiled before she dug into the food. As she stole a piece of onigiri before Neji could grab it.

"Hey I wanted that"

"You snooze you lose", (y/n) said with a laugh before taking a big bite of the onigiri revealing a smile behind it.

"(y/n) what the actual hell", Neji said getting angry for once.

"Aw! Are you angry Neji that I took some food", (y/n) said with a smile plaster upon on her face. Neji kept trying to take some food from (y/n). It suddenly became a contest on who would get to what first. Neji even using some moves like an eight trigram air palm. Throwing (y/n) a distance away as he grabbed some food. (y/n) always seemed to be able to be one of the few able to provoke the usual calm Neji. This continued for a while until everything was finished and both were left with full stomachs. (y/n) patted her stomach before smiling. "Man that was good", she exclaimed.

"Alright now that is finished can I get back to training?"

"Sure feel free but if you do. You won't get any herring soba but it is your choice", (y/n) baited.

"Fine but then can I get back to training", Neji asked in a displeased tone of voice.

"Seriously Neji is training all you care about?"

"Yes, I must work hard to climb to the top of the Hyuga clan. As I am only apart of a side branch of the clan. Because ultimately in this world we are judged by what we can not change", Neji said with a serious look on his face.

"Neji you know that isn't all life is about. I get you are angry that your father was killed in place of the head. But you might not know the entire story"

"How would you know anything about it? You have no clue what it is like to be branded as something", Neji exclaimed as he took off his headband revealing his curse mark. "This curse mark represents a bird in a cage. It is a symbol of being tied down to an insecable destiny"

"Nothing is insecable there is always a way to escape. Even if there is a slim chance to escape if you have a chance that should be good enough Neji"

"I know that after all, I am a genius it is because of that. I will be able to climb up the ladder all the way to the top of the Hyuga branch", Neji stated.

"Neji there is a difference between genius and stupidity. That is genius has its limits. Especially on the battlefield no matter how much of a genius you may be that won't change anything. If there is a loss of life on the battlefield no matter how much of a genius a person might be they can't change the death. Same for a mission, not even a genius can tell how a mission might go. A mission might be simple one minute and the next to be turned into an A-ranked mission. So please stop trying to use that genius as a reason to think you are above everyone else especially Hinata. I have seen you training with her I know how hard you are. Neji please stop it. life isn't all about being at the top of the clan. Everyone is born with a purpose in life. Even if you are born from a branch family you can do something to change the Hyuga and show you are more than just a pawn without hurting your own family. Because if you do then in the end you are no better than what people might say Itachi is", (y/n) said seriously for a moment. Walking closer and closer to Neji before wrapping her arms around Neji. Neji was stunned by her words (y/n) usually kept quiet when he ranted about his family. But it seems she knew more than he thought she did. Neji tried to process everything she said before pushing her away from him.

"(y/n) you could never understand how I feel. You have a family who cares about you. While I have nothing because of the Hyuga clan. I lost my father because of them"

"If you say so then I suppose I have no choice but to fight you"

"You think you can beat me?"

"Pretty sure I can"

"I suppose I have no choice byakugan", he cried his byakugan being revealed.

(y/n) quickly fleed trying to keep away from his eight trigram range. If she got too close he would hit her. She needed to be fast. She quickly made her way toward him. As he attempted to hit her pressure points as she was barely able to dodge each attack. (y/n) kicked Neji and he blocked the kick. She smiled and spun around and kicked only to be blocked. She tried to kick him again. Spinning herself for another kick as he dodged the other kick. As they continued to kick and punch one another. She jumped in the air trying to kick not being able to land enough on him for him to get any damage. (y/n) cursed as she landed on the ground. She needed to be quick. She quickly weaved the signs for the shadow clone justu. Neji suddenly appeared in front of her.

"Do you honestly think that will fool me", Neji asked as he started hitting the clones. (y/n) was running out of time she needed to think of a justu or something to hit with him. That's when she thought of an idea. She quickly let her mangekyou Sharingan be revealed.

"Looks like I am going to actually put some effort into this battle", she said with a small smirk. She quickly hid behind a tree. She made another batch of shadow clones this time seven. Before she weaved head hunter justu. Hitting a hole as she went down. She quickly traveled below the ground while Neji was beating each of her clones. "Neji for someone so smart you really should be more careful you never know what might come after you", a clone of (y/n) said. Just as (y/n) pooped up from the ground pulling Neji to the ground. Hitting his jawline as she popped up. "Sorry, Neji but you really should have listened. Even as a genius you should know your limits", she said before popping up. As Neji was now trapped and struggling in the hole.

"Damn it I can't believe you beat me", he grumbled.

"Don't feel too bad Neji what did you expect? I am a jonin after all if I couldn't bring a genin like you to common sense then what kind of leader much less than a friend would I be?"

Neji continued to struggle in the hole. "Neji for the record even I have struggled in life. I was at a time outcasted from my own clan. I used to be bullied and beat. Yet here you are not being beat unless you slip up. So unless you have a clan that bullies you constantly and for most of them not giving a heck about you. Don't come crying to me anymore about destiny and stop trying to tell me you can't change who you are. Because you can change who you are Neji because after all like me you are a genius", she said before ruffling his hair. "If you want some more food you better hurry up if not go home and train", she said with a wave. Leaving Neji in the ground all alone. Once (y/n) got home she read until the sun was setting. Before she started to do the process to make herring soba. She had nearly finished when she heard a doorbell knock. She looked to see Neji standing there. With a certain look on his face. (y/n) smiled before letting him in.

"What took you so long?"

"I paid a visit to the clan and it seems you were right in the end. Seems my father sacrificed himself for Hinata's father because of the kidnapping not because of his level. But because they were brothers"

"Well, what do you expect they were family, and in the end, that is what family does isn't it Neji. Even if it means to be killed for them. Who knows one day that might happen to you. If that does happen I will be right by your side", (y/n) said.

"Well I going to hold you to that"

"I expect nothing less now how about some food?"

"Sure", Neji said with a small smile before coming in. (y/n) shut the door as the two spent the rest of the day enjoying each other company and for once take a break from fighting. In the end, it is friends who will always pull you up and that is what important at the end of the day. Something Neji learned because of this.
