Elanor and I (inside the labyrinth)

I issued the system of shifts, so seven individuals would rest while the others would stand on guard from whatever was lurking out there. We planned on staying put for the next forty-eight hours inside this lower room.

Grer, Izz, and I were the only creatures that could tell the time, since none of them had any watches. We excluded Ruby from the shifts, so that left us with nine people juggling the timetable. We also needed to include each of us at every shift to maintain our schedule.

Elanor and I were the first individuals who took charge of guarding duty. Every eight hours, our places would rotate until we reach the limit of the time.

But the decision did not delight the Elven King to stay awake with me. But he trained my archery skills from before, so I was still an apprentice to his eyes.

After an hour without uttering a word, I went and sat beside him. Elanor refused to look me in the eye, but I insisted on striking a conversation.
