Chapter 2

Giselle gave him a look that screamed, 'What the hell are you talking about?'

"Adam, right?"

He nodded.

She sighed and relaxed on the bed, making herself comfortable.

Adam's nerves were the complete opposite of relaxed though. He even had the thought to lock her up if she refused. He absolutely couldn't let her go.

"What is it that you really want from me? You want to sleep with me, right?"

Adam blinked. She wasn't wrong but, did he really look like someone that wanted a one night stand? His eyes wandered to the mirror as he took on his own appearance. He looked like a typical playboy. He answered his own question.

How depressing.

"I won't deny I want to sleep with you. However, I want to be your lover. I want you to look at me and love me. I want to be your one and only"

She glanced at him and chuckled.

"I can see it in your eyes. I can't really say no, right? You were never planning on letting me leave. Fine, I agree. As long as I get to go to work and get what I want, you can do whatever. You'll eventually get tired of me"

"Never" he said immediately.

"I hear you"

"Giselle, I have a question, if you don't mind"

"Sure, go ahead"

"What were you doing in that restaurant yesterday?"

Giselle hesitated, staring into Adam's eyes as if confirming if he really wanted to know. It seems he did.

"I was on a blind date. She didn't really like me"

"She?"

"My friends set me up. They said since I didn't show interest in men, I should at least date. I went along with them. She said she didn't want any half hearted commitment. I understood her perfectly"

"You have friends?"

"Are you really surprised?"

"You were always alone in school so I thought you didn't have any"

"I have a lot of friends outside of school. They're really weird but fun people"

Giselle's eyes glistened as she talked about her friends. She didn't say much but it was enough for him to know how much she valued her friends. A twinge of jealousy passed through him.

"Your partner called and I told him you were sick. You can rest for today. One of my drivers would take you to work for this month you'll be staying here"

Maybe, even more' he added in his mind.

"I have a car. It's at home. I can drive myself"

"Please, allow this. It's the least I can do"

"To monitor me? Has anyone ever told you you're paranoid? I agreed to this. I'm not going to run away"

"... I'm sorry. Please rest now. Dinner would be delivered to your room and you can tell the maid if you want anything else. I'll be leaving now"

Adam's heart was beating wildly in his chest as he forced himself to walk steadily to his study. His secretary that was waiting for him stared at his red face with a peculiar look.

"Mr. Denver, are you alright? Your face is red. Do you have a fever?"

"Hun? No, it's nothing, I'm fine. So, what's for today?"

"A new arms shipment was supposed to arrive today but was hijacked by the navy. Even though it's a legitimate business now, the government is still stringent on its distribution" the secretary expressed his annoyance.

"A meeting with the mayor would resolve all that. Have you booked that?"

"Yes. I heard he especially likes vintage wines and has a single daughter who works for him. What are you going to do?"

"Refuse her and use one of the wines in dad's cellar to placate him. Getting tied up with the government is a headache"

"I understand. Is Chairman Denver going to agree though?"

"Nope. He's going to murder me if I touch his wine cellar and refuse the girl at the same time. Ahh, so much stress for such a trivial matter"

"Mr. Denver, about what you asked me to search for, I finally got information on it. It was skating the lines of what was legal or what was not. Please do not do this next time. Here you go"

The secretary handed over the file to Adam who took it and placed it on his table.

"Thank you for your hard work. I won't be able to make it to work today but I'll work from home. Ask the driver to take you back"

"Okay. I'll mail you the rest"
