Chapter 21

A media house. Connecticut. USA.

"To start with, I'll say thanks for turning up, Eric."

Eric only kept a fixed gaze on the manager of the firm. His thoughts were not with them but he was trying to make a scene of the broad face of the fellow.

He was dressed in a hood, twas quite cold that day. He had a pair of joggers on and a pair of sneakers. He didn't care whether or not it matched. All he could see was the reflection of Ishbelle.

He knew he was going insane but he kept lying to himself that everything was going as planned.

"I know that it hasn't been really easy on you."

The manager broke again. Eric was feeling quite annoyed by the break of his words. Ishbelle had always complained about that regarding the manager.

He'l would only make fun of it and rule it out. But he could see the odd of it. And at that moment, he couldn't process such odd.

He didn't have the patience for it. He really did wish he had but he didn't.

He didn't even know that there was a type of hall whatsoever in the firm, let alone an exhaustively adorned one.

There was a large table and several of the members of the firm were seated around it. Eric was one of them while the manager was standing few steps away.

He loved what they were about to do but he didn't have the patience. He wasn't the man he used to be.

"Knowing fully well that the lady you loved dearly had been taken away from you."

The fellow paused again. Eric put one of his fingers in his mouth and began to gently tap his left leg on the floor.

That would help to chop the length of the rage swelling in the depth of his consciousness.

"She was really a nice lady. Talk about work, she was efficient and one of the best workers we've ever had. You sure are very lucky to had met her."

As usual, he took his usual break. Emma had been taking note of Eric's expression.

She stood up from where she was seated and walked straightly to the manager who said as soon as he noticed,

"Nobody uses the rest room until I'm done. "

Few of the workers wielded faint smiles as Emma shot back,

"Nothing close to that, sir. But you'd want to hear this."

She said walking closer to him without waiting for his approval or consenting.

She got to him and whispered into his ear. The manager hesitated for a while then walked to the vacant seat which was meant for him.

Emma assumed his position. The manager turned to her on the seat and nodded to have her started,

"Sorry, Eric."

He looked at Eric then at her colleagues who definitely were expecting their halves of the sorry. All of them knew how their manager sucked her speech delivery.

Eric hoped that she wouldn't be another version of the manager.

Emma continued.

"The company in return of Ishbelle's unwavering support before her regrettable demise, would love to offer an accumulation of monthly payments till her contract expires."

She said as the members clapped. The manager stood up and reached out his hand to shake Eric, he had been seated beside him.

Eric stood up and looked at the manager for few seconds. Then he said,

"Fuck this!"

He almost knocked the manager down as he stomped off. He couldn't believe he had wasted all his time there because of some few thousands of dollars.
