"You can't- You killed him just to get back at me?!" Nasira screamed, although her voice was less of a lioness' roar and more of a scared rat's squeak.
"Nooo... I mean kinda but trust me, this guy deserved it anyways. Him and his group of 2 buddies like to assault women in their free time. By the way, to answer the question you didn't ask - Yes, I killed them too. Don't worry, their deaths will be blamed on you too, I made sure of it." Aasira said as normally as one would talk about their dinner choices.
This was not how Nasira planned it, this was not how it was supposed to go down. There's no way this is how it'll end, no way she'll let it end with her painted a serial killer. But how can she get out- "Alibi! I have one! I-I-I wasn't at the location of murder. I was probably at a shoot or a party or-"
"Or at home." Aasira interrupted her with a smirk. Why was she smirking? "You were at home, at all three times. But you know who wasn't? The famous Aasira Shabab. When the case of alibi comes up, who do you think they'll believe - the suspect who said she was at home where there's no one to confirm her presence, or dozens of eye-witnesses who swear they saw the suspect at the scene? Not to mention all they will find at the crime scene is the fingerprints of Aasira, and last I checked, that's the name you have been parading around, isn't it?"
She could still run, maybe even lunge at Aasira. And risk getting stabbed? Despite their physical similarities, the other twin was always the fastest and strongest one. The only reason she even managed to kill her in the first place was by tricking her and making her slip. Nasira bit her lower lip, fear making her mind muddled with dark thoughts, none that would get her out of the situation.
"I'll tell them the truth, I'll tell them that it was you and not me." She threatened desperately, seeing no other choice.
"Sure, do that. Then you explain how your supposedly, publicly announced, dead twin sister came from the grave and killed three guys and as to why you have been using her name and living her life." She spoke off-handedly dismissing her sister's threat, "You wanted my name, my fame, my friends, my life without paying a price? Things don't work that way. You've enjoyed my life, now despair within it too."
"....I'm sorry." Nasira mumbled, her voice cracking up, no longer able to keep the water leaking from her eyes.
"You're sorry? YOU'RE SORRY?" Aasira screamed for the first time since their reunion, anger boiling within her, "You killed me. Not accidentally, you killed me, your twin sister, deliberately and in cold blood. We shared a womb and a long childhood together yet you had no hesitation to kill me and all you have to say is you're sorry?"
"..... You're right, I shouldn't even say sorry." Nasira looked up, eyes wet, cheeks marked with tears, nose red but her face showed fury. She will not go down this way, "I hated you growing up. We're twins, we're practically the same beings but everyone only saw you. No matter what I did, what I achieved, it always fell short in front of the great Aasira Shabab."
"So you killed me because of what, petty jealousy? Because mommy and daddy didn't compliment you?" Aasira stared at her sister with a face of disbelief.
"I killed you because for them I might as well have not existed. No wonder how great my grades were, you were always just one rank up. No matter how fast or strong I got, it was never enough to beat you. Even in things I did beat you, instead of appreciating me, they console you to do better next time. You know how many months it took for them to get over my death? Zero. They got over it faster than it takes to boil a cup of noodles."
"And again, what's that got to do with-"
"BECAUSE YOU LET THEM!!" Nasira screamed, "You never helped me, never told them off, never took my side but instead just stood at the sidelines and laughed at my demise. It's not fair that you got everything handed to you while I had to fight for my light, for them to notice me, for anyone to notice me." She broke down, no longer standing but curled down on the grounds, balling her eyes out.
"... You think I had things handed down? I worked for them, I gave up time, my efforts, my blood and sweat to reach my goals. Don't pretend to mask your petty reasons in some grand scheme of under-appreciation. You had a choice, you could've lived your life differently, away from them, us, however you wanted to, doing whatever you wanted to but you stuck to your jealousy." Aasira said quietly, staring at the pathetic being that she shared more than just her blood with.
"Well, it doesn't matter what your intentions were. You'll get what you deserve when the cops come here. I gave them the tip anonymously of the first body's location as soon as you came here. They'll soon find this place after following the trail." Aasira said, going back to the rock and sitting on it, "You can run but they'll find you soon wherever you go. You can finish the job for good this time," She said, throwing the knife towards her, "But then again, you'll still be caught. You're screwed either way."
Nasira looked at the already bloodied knife with her blurry eyes and back to her sister. She could do it. She could just get up, take the knife and stab her twin, killing her for good. But then what? Her life's over now. She can't escape the cage this time, hell, she wasn't sure she ever escaped that cage. Looking back up at the sky, she realized how beautiful the night was. In the clear, away from city light, the stars shined brightly. The moon, despite not being a full one, was mesmerizing. Why couldn't she, someone who wasn't full like her sister, just be as mesmerizing as the moon? What wrong had she done for the gods to punish her in such a way?
Wiping the tears off her cheeks and eyes, Nasira stood up. Clutching her fists, she sniffed and walked ahead towards her sister in determination.
Noticing her sister walking up to her, Aasira sighed, closed her eyes and steeled herself for what was about to come. She had expected it when she made the plan but after all this, she felt free. She felt herself and dying as herself, her true self, didn't seem like a bad thing.
But the pain she expected never came. She opened her eyes and caught sight of her twin behind her, standing at the edge of the cliff. So she chose that. She thought as she pulled out a note from her pocket and placed it on the rock.
"The moon is beautiful tonight." Nasira said in a whisper, still looking at the moon.
Placing a small rock on the note so it doesn't fly away, she looked at her sister. "... It was always beautiful." she said with a hint of the smile before turning away and walking towards the start of her new life. She turned her head back to look at her old life for the last time but all she saw was the empty cliff, bloodied knife in the dirt, a dead body, and a beautiful night sky.
For the world, Nasira Shabab died a long time ago from suicide. A lie to cover up the dark reality. Today that lie turned into reality that was just as dark, maybe even more so. "Today's the day I die, today's the day you die. For I am you and you am I. Goodbye, sister."
