"Forest of Death? This is creepy." Sakura said anxiously.
"Bah! You will soon find out why it's called the forest of death." Anko told the girl with a mischievous grin.
Anko didn't really like Sakura. As when she was asked to help the rookie Kunoichis, only Sakura was stupid or brave enough to ignore her advice.
Later, she only helped Ino with her poisons and Hinata with her Taijutsu style. So her impression of Sakura wasn't that good.
Most of the Genin seemed to be anxious about the forest… But there was still someone who was stupid enough to antagonize the interrogation expert.
"Hmph. Like this measly forest can scare me."
It was the 3rd member of Samui's team, named De. He was one of those 'damn care' kind of kids'. And thought he needed to exert his manliness each time there was an opportunity.
Which earned him a Kunai from Anko. Which he did his best to dodge. But his rewards were a few strands of severed hair.
Seeing that the Kunai could have killed him if he wasn't fast enough... he gulped and stopped talking. Making Karui shake her head in frustration.
"Ah! You are spirited, aren't you?..." Anko started as she licker her lips. Then her Jolly tone turned mischievous as she said, "Kids like you die the fastest. Hehehe." She giggled, looking menacing.
Seeing no one else complaining, she took out a few agreements from her jacket.
"Now before we start the second test… there's something I have to pass out."
Hearing her, everyone was confused, but they listened intently.
She held the agreement forms before her to make her statement clear, "You must sign these agreement forms."
Seeing the clear confusion of many of the examinees, she continued chirpily, "There will be deaths in this one. And if I don't have you sign these, then your deaths will be my responsibility. Hehehe."
Seeing everyone understanding this, she continued, "Now I am going to explain the second test. Then you can sign it afterwards… Also…"
She became serious as she eyed the 5 Genin who sold their teams before, "You can't quit this stage or your Ninja license will be revoked."
That sent a shiver down their backs.
"So after you sign this, each 'Team' will check in the booth behind me. Now to explain the test. Simply put… You will attempt the ultimate survival." Anko stated.
On the Genin's side, one Shikamaru Nara had a grimace on his face, 'Ultimate Survival? Man, this will be a total drag… At least Mitsu hinted us about this… I am glad we all brought the necessary tools…'
While Sakura seemed afraid, 'Nooo! I will have to be in a stinky forest with bug and dog boy! Where is my Sasuke-kun!'
While Naruto, Hinata and Sasuke exchanged a knowing look with each other and nodded.
Anko continued, "First I will explain the area in which it will take place. The name of this place is Training Ground 44, also known as the Forest of Death. Around Training Ground 44, there are 44 locked gates.
There is the surrounding forest, a river that cuts the ground in half, and a tower in the very center. From each gate to the tower, the distance is 10 KM. So you won't be in any disadvantage no matter which gate you are allocated.
During the survival in here, you will be asked to complete a certain task. Using your weapons and Jutsu, you will compete in a… No rules scroll battle." She finished as she held onto 2 scrolls on her hands, one black with a Kanji of Earth written on it, and the other white with the Kanji of Heaven written on it.
Seeing that everyone was paying attention, she continued, "You will fight over these two scrolls, the "Heaven" and "Earth" scrolls. There are 17 teams here. So 9 teams will get the heaven scroll and 8 will get the earth scroll.
To pass this test… Your team must make it to the tower with BOTH scrolls."
This started a discussion among the Genin. As what Anko literally said was, 'Half of you will surely fail.'
It was then one of the 5 Genins' asked, "Unno, Invigilator… But we only have 1 member… We don't have a team." He asked nervously.
Which earned them a vicious grin from Anko.
"Well… You should have thought about that before you decided to sell off your team, shouldn't you?"
That shut them up. As they now understood, what kind of hell hole they will be in. Because all the teams will target them first.
"Excuse me, Invigilator, but is there no other way?" A girl from the 5 asked in a desperate tone.
"I am sorry. The best advice I can give you is simply to run towards the center, and if you meet a team, just hand over your scroll and not fight. I wish you the best of luck to survive this." Anko said emotionlessly.
The girl whimpered back at the answer. She understood what type of predicament she was in.
Seeing that no one else had anything to say, Anko continued, "Okay, now there is another rule. There will be a time limit of 120 hours or five days."
Choji shouted out, "Five days? What about dinner?"
Anko only chuckled at that and replied, "You are on your own, chubby. Though, the forest is full of food. Just watch out for the man-eating beasts, poisonous insects and poisonous plants."
Choji seemed to want to say something more, but Ino stopped him by whispering in his ears, "Shut up baka. Remember Mitsu-kun told us to pack for a month? We have enough rations in our storage space!"
Choji still whimpered, "But Ino… Will 1 month of ration be enough?"
Ino didn't know if she should slap her team mate or laugh at his antics…
But Anko continued, "Although, in theory 8 teams should pass. But that's not likely. As the days go on, the distance to the goal will become farther and the time to rest will become shorter. And the area is crawling with enemies. You won't get much sleep.
Not only will some fail by losing the scroll… But some will die from the harshness of the course. Now talk about what will disqualify you.
First, those that don't make it to the tower, with both scrolls within the time limit.
Second, those who lose a teammate or those who have a teammate killed.
And as there is no quitting in the middle, you will be in the forest for five days. And final rule, you must not look inside the scroll until you make it to the tower."
Naruto, being the ever curious, asked, "What happens if we do?"
"That will be a surprise for anyone who does, sweety." Anko answered him with a wink, which sent shivers to Naruto's body.
'Yeah… I will follow sensei's advice and stay 1 KM away from the crazy snake lady.' Naruto made a decision in his head that will keep him from dying young.
Anko then continued, "A Chunin will be asked to handle classified information. This is to test your trust worthiness. That's it for the explanations. Exchange the forms for your scroll. Then choose any gate to get ready for the start.
A final word of advice… Don't die."
After saying so, she flickered away, leaving behind a group of anxious Genins.
The 5 irregulars were the most afraid, as they could feel everyone's gaze on them.
While the Konoha rookies, Sand siblings and the Choujuro's team simply shrugged and got their scrolls after exchanging the forms.
They then said good bye to their friends, as they wished them luck and picked their own gates.
But before Team 8 could go towards their chosen gate. A boy in green spandex stopped them.
"Please wait." He requested.
Kiba instantly got in a bad mood and asked rudely, "Huh? And who the hell are you?"
"The name is Rock Lee, and I wanted to say something to the beautiful lady over there." He stated as he approached Sakura.
Sakura was anxiously looking around when she saw a boy approach her. She was confused and asked politely, "Yes?"
"I am Rock Lee and yours is Sakura… Let's go out and I'll protect you till I die!"
Everyone around stopped to look at the drama.
Sakura looked at the boy for a second, before showing a disgusted face as she said, "No way, you are lame."
Lee got depressed hearing her, but there was nothing he could do about it.
On the other hand, Kiba was laughing his ass off, "You got shot down in a second. Better luck next time buddy!" Kiba patted Lee's shoulder as he too turned around.
Lee wanted to say something, but was stopped by his teammate.
"Don't… Something is wrong with these rookies…" Neji said with narrowed eyes.
"Eh? What do you mean Neji?" Asked Ten Ten.
"They… all give similar vibes to Hinata-sama…" Neji frowned hard.
"Eh, your genius cousin, who can keep up with you?" Asked Lee, turning serious. As he knew how strong Neji was.
Neji didn't answer, but that was enough answer in itself.
"Wow! I knew the girl I loved was strong. This is great. YOUTH!" Lee turned happy.
But Neji dumped water on his head, "No… Other than that pinkette… She feels like a stronger academy student…"
To that Ten Ten agreed, as she knew all too well about the Kunoichis that had the fan girl disease.
"So you think the rookies will be a problem?" She asked.
Neji kept silent for a while before saying, "Let us meet them in the finals…"
Saying so, he started leading them towards their gate.
…
Anko kept a look on her watch as many other examiners were holding the locks of the gates as the Genins waited for the exam to start.
The moment the clock hit 3:30. Anko shouted,
"The second test of the Chunin Exams now begins!"
The examiners quickly unlocked and opened the gates, and instantly all the Genin teams rushed into the forest.
The 5 outcasts decided to choose gates that were closer to each other, but that too were about 500 meters apart, so they too rushed in hoping to find one of their own, to survive this test.
Unknown to them, a wood clone was watching the whole development from above a tree.
As he smiled and decided to make the exams more interesting.
"Welp, I am sure Hina-bunny will be fine no matter who I throw at them… After all if I don't make the 2 knuckle headed Kage's a bit desperate… Will they even learn humility?"
Mitsu's clone chuckled as he started forming a plan to make certain matchups inside the forest.
…
