The Emperor's trust

Later that day, Bai Zhang Wei came home when the sun had already set. The storm outside had passed but heavy drops continued to fall. The thick curtain of rain hanging over the capital resulted in several puddles on the paved parts of the streets. As Bai Zhang Wei's carriage drew closer to Bai manor, the hooves of the horses echoed eerily.

Stepping down the carriage, Bai Zhang Wei was ushered to the main hall inside the inner court. With a servant holding an umbrella over his head, not a single drop of water landed on him. He entered the hall with his back straight and his shoulders square, looking more like a master than he ever did before. He swept the whole room with his eyes, pride surging up inside him at the sight of his wives and children waiting obediently for him to come back.
