Chapter one

Things changed when the war began. The heavens fell from the sky . Stranding her citizens and grounding them forever. And Hell opened its gates for its wretched disciples to pick us apart. But it was still our duty to protect the people of Eros. To lay down our lives. We were it's guardians. That's why the protector created us so many years ago. And we mustn't fail the Protector. It was our duty to get the people of Eros to the gates of Dystopia. But the carnage was worse than we could've ever predicted. The war was far worse than I could've ever predicted.

"Erinyes! Get up we have a war to fight or did you forget that too?" He was always such a stern one. Never knew how to relax when we weren't fighting.

"You're just jealous I have more kills then you!" I teased. His black armor glinted as the moonlight shone off it. He bashed the on coming enemies with his shield defeating them one at a time. He kept his glorious white wings tucked close to his body.

"Watch your back and keep your wings tucked or you'll have them cut off!" He yelled as I cut down one enemy after another. My blade turned black as it began to tarnish with the blood of Eros.

"Brother?"

"What?" He snapped finally able to approach me.

"Is this what turns Guardians?" His normally stoic face was filled with shock as he looked at the black ooze that dripped from my sword.

"Don't ingest it or get it in a wound and you'll be fine. Let's go. We have to tell Protecter the Farrow District has fallen to the daemons."

We opened our wings to take flight. We were barely off the ground when I was pulled down. I felt something bite into the joint that connected my wings.

"Helios!" I screamed and slammed the beast into a tree but it wouldn't let go. I cried out as I felt one of my wings get pulled off.

"Damn you!" Helios rushed to my side and took my sword.

"I'm sorry brother." He yelled as he cut the beast and my remaining wing from my back.

I could hear the sword clatter to the ground as I fell into his arms. I was lucky to have him. I was lucky he was here with me.

I felt the cool ground on my chest as I finally came to. How long was I out for? Where am I? Helios, is he okay? My white dented armor lined one wall of the cave and my sword leaned against the wall. I caught a glimpse of my self laying on the ground.

My white hair was disheveled and was in its usual half pony tail. But the thing that struck me odd was my back. My black wings weren't in their rightful place. A tear rolled down my cheek as I turned my head. I was grounded.

"I tried to save them." Helios' calm voice echoed off the walls.

"Your wings I mean. You know healing isn't my forte but I did my best."

"My wings."My throat felt so dry and raw. How long was I out for?

"You'll get them back." He let out a sigh. And sat down next to me. He was still in his full armor.

"Hopefully." I tried to sit up but my body refused.

"How am I supposed to return home? How am I supposed to protect the people?"

"We'll find a way. For now rest. Protecter is sending troops to our district as we speak. I sent a messenger that the Farrow district has fallen and that we need medical attention."

"But that's supposed to be our duty." Bitterness filled my chest as I struggled to sit up.

"Our duty right now is to heal." Helios always spoke so stern but it was never nice to be on the receiving end.

"Our duty is to be on the field right now! But we're hiding in a cave!"

"So having your wings cut off wasn't enough for you! Here's your amor why don't you try putting it on and lifting your sword! Let's see how well that goes!"

"If I die then I die! We went into this job knowing that!" The pain was unbearable just to sit up. He had a point but still it was my duty.

"I don't want to see my brother dead on the field! It was already bad enough to see a wing torn from you!" He yelled at me as he slammed my gauntlet down. A moment of silence passed between us as we locked eyes.

"Please just-" rustling came from outside the cave. Helios grabed his shield and jumped in front of me spreading his wings. I could hear the footstep heavily approach.

"Whose there!" He demanded but there was no reply.

"Halt! Show yourself!"

"I said halt!" He picked up my sword as the footsteps suddenly stoped.

"Well if it isn't the Adones brothers. It's good to hear you two."

"Seer!" He exclaimed as he rushed forward to give the blind woman a hug.

"I'm glad to see you!"

"We've heard news of Erinyes. I'm not the best with medicine but I can help."

Her massive brown wings tucked neatly behind her as she approached. It was a long time since I'd seen her. Her long brown hair was now pulled back into a pony tail and her bangs fell long to either side of her face. But her foggy green eyes remained the same.

"What happened to Evangaline?" I asked.

"She passed defending your father. Lay down. I need to feel the wounds."

"Is he okay? Any news from mother?" Helios sat down next to me and took my hand.

"None this far." The room began to fade to black as she pressed fingers into the wound.

"This may hurt."

I looked at Helios one more time. His face always so stoic and stern but I knew he cared. He looked down at me and gave a soft half smile before I slipped into unconsciousness once again.
