It Hurts The Most When You Give Your Attention To It

It's been 10 years since the massacre of the Rupus Clan, 10 years since Payne was adopted by the Garnett family and 10 years since he declared his pursuit of revenge.

A lot of things have changed since then. 5 years ago, an unfortunate tragedy happened. Mr. Gulden, the head of the Garnett family and Zaqiel's dad, have passed away due to cancer.

"Do not purse the path of vengeance, especially you Payne. It would only lead to more suffering and pain.." Mr. Gulden's dying wish to Zaqiel and Payne.

Despite being 5 years already since Mr. Gulden's death, the pain still lingers in both Zaqiel and Payne. The death of their father would not only affect them emotionally, but their entire lifestyle as well. Things were hard financially for the Garnett family.

Both Payne and Zaqiel are now 20 years old. Payne now works part time in order to help support his studies in school. On the other hand, without their father's guidance, Zaqiel grew up to be a delinquent. He would rarely go to class and he's often seen fighting with people. Their mother Sylvia, is now the breadwinner of the family.

The class has just finished for Payne. He was walking in the isle when he stumbled upon someone he knew. He was surprised when he saw the person. It was none other than his brother, Zaqiel.

He approached Zaqiel and asked him a question.

"What brings you here bro?"

"What do you mean what brings me here? I've just attended classes today, what do you think else I did?" Zaqiel answered sarcastically.

"Well you always skip school, you can't blame me" Payne fires back.

"Well... yeah, I just feel like going to school today" Zaqiel replied.

The two then started to walk together heading towards the exit.

"So where you off to right now? Heading to your part time job?" Zaqiel asked.

"I'm off duty today. I'm heading towards the cemetery to visit father's. Today's his death anniversary remember?" Payne said.

"Hmm I see" Zaqiel said.

"Wait... Oh it all make sense now" Payne said while his facial expression showed a face that understood something.

"What?" a slightly annoyed Zaqiel asked.

"Nothing" Payne answered jokingly.

"Anyways, you coming with me bro? Mom's probably going to visit for another day cause she's too busy with her work right now" Payne asked Zaqiel.

Zaqiel nodded in response. The two would then go to the cemetery to visit Mr. Gulden's grave. They brought some flowers and lit up a candle. They offered some prayers and after that, they went their way.

While on their way home, Zaqiel suddenly suggested something to Payne.

"I have this place that I kinda want to visit right now. Would you mind coming with me?"

Payne agreed and both of them went to an abandoned building that was near to their area. Zaqiel instructed that they'll have to jump through fences, climb the wall and all other complicated things in order to reach the top of the building where Zaqiel wanted to go.

After some dangerous parkour through the different obstacles in the building, they finally reached the top. They sat down on the edge and all they could see is the beautiful sunset.

"I'd go here whenever I feel sad" Zaqiel confessed.

Payne was surprised by this and he looked at his brother in the face. He could feel the sadness within him.

"I still miss him despite being 5 years now" Zaqiel said.

"Same" Payne replied.

"Cancer's a bitch" Zaqiel said.

"I agree. It wasn't nice of him to take away the life of such a good and caring father" Payne said.

They both went silence for a while as they were looking at the sunset. Payne decided to break the silence.

"You know, you should start taking your studies seriously bro, Mom's really worried for your future"

"Don't you dare start that conversation" Zaqiel replied back.

Payne went silent.

"I'll try to figure things out along the way.." Zaqiel added.

It was already getting dark when both of them agreed to go home. They went to the same route they used earlier to climb in order to get off the building. As they were climbing off the fences, bad luck bites Zaqiel. After he landed safely, he slipped off the platform and fell to the spikes below. His body was impaled by the enormous spike.

"GYAHHHHHH" Zaqiel shouted out loud.

You could hear the pain in his voice. Payne panicked as he saw his brother dying right before his very eyes. Suddenly, he remembers the visions of he had seeing the dead corpses of his clan.

He pulled Zaqiel out of the spike he was impaled first. You could see the hole left in Zaqiel's body. No help was nearby and if he attempted to bring Zaqiel to the nearest hospital by himself, they won't make it in time. It's all on Payne's hands now.

In an act of desperation, Payne tried to remove the bracelet in his hand. By removing the seal, it will be easy to transport Zaqiel because werewolves has enhanced speed and agility. Payne was close to doing so when Zaqiel intervened. Zaqiel held Payne's hand and stopped him from removing the bracelet.

With no more moves left, Payne was pressured to find a solution to the problem. Zaqiel was bleeding heavily and was losing a lot of blood. All of a sudden, his intuition told him to transfer some of his blood to Zaqiel. He thought a blood transfusion was necessary in order to increase the likelihood of his brother's survival. So he cut a portion of his arm and let his blood drop to the hole in Zaqiel's body. It was like a running water from a faucet, filling an empty bucket. The bleeding momentarily stopped. Zaqiel would then regain full consciousness after.

He carried Zaqiel to the side of the road, hoping that a car would pass by. The road wasn't exactly known for cars passing by. It's extremely rare to find one and a miracle is needed in order for it to happen.

Miraculously, an ambulance was passing by. An unexpected help came that surprised Payne.

"It's like an ass-pull that the writers make in a movie, what a miracle" he thought.

While his brother was being treated in the ambulance, Payne was sitting quietly and was thinking deeply.

"What in the world just happened? Did I just subconsciously healed someone from bleeding through my blood? What is this curse anyway?"

He looked outside of the window of the ambulance and continued his deep assessment.

"The memories... of my clan... what was that?" These thoughts are something that Payne will have to deal in the long run.
