MEETING HELGA

[ROA]

Quinn stared at the floating screen in front of him, trying to see if it was just some sort of joke.

'A video game system? Really?'

He poked the screen and found that he could touch it. So it wasn't a dream then, great.....

"Right then, let's get this over with. What exactly are you going to be doing for me?"

< I AM AN AUTOMATED SYSTEM DESIGNED TO HELP YOU GROW STRONGER BY ASSIGNING YOUR TASKS AND QUESTS >

< TO VIEW YOUR CURRENT POWER LEVEL, OPEN YOUR STATUS BAR BY SAYING 'STATUS' >

"Status," Quinn said. And the red window disappeared to reveal another window.

...

< Name : Quinn Xiao >

< Race : Half Human, ??? >

< Exp : 0/100 >

< Level : 1 >

< HP : 20/20 >

< Strength : 10 >

< Agility : 10 >

< Stamina : 10 >

"Hmm. Seems like it's the standard setting used by all games. But I wonder what the drawback is. There's always a drawback with things like this."

Below the bar, Quinn could make out two other tabs. One that read < skills >, and another that read < inventory >

" Skills," he said, and the skills bar came up beside the status bar

...

< Through earlier actions, the player has unlocked a skill >

< Skill [BloodLust] has been unlocked >

< [ BloodLust ] [ Level 1 (30%) ]: Produces an aura around the player, reducing the will of his opponent to fight. >

< Skills >

< Skill points : 0 >

< Gamers Mind [Level: Max ]: Allows the player a calm state of mind, even in the face of adversity. Grants immunity to mental based attacks >

< Gamers Body [ Level: Max ]: Allows the player to live his life like a game >

< [ BloodLust ]: Produces an aura around the player, reducing the will of his opponent to fight by 1% per level >

< Skill locked ??? >

'What... Through earlier actions? It's that from wh....I killed him?'

Quinn sighed and looked at the skill again. It was a fairly useful skill and could come in handy in the future, but he wasn't sure how he felt about receiving it from that action.

He decided to deal with it later and opened up the inventory box. He saw the twenty small boxes, along with the large box that held an outline of a body in it. He pressed, prodded, and clicked the tab until eventually figuring out what it was for and that it could be another useful ability to have.

"This all seems too good to be true. I mean, is there any downside to this at all?" he wondered

< Daily Quest >

< Find and kill the [Great Boar ] >

< Deep in the forest, there is a great beast wreaking havoc on unsuspecting travelers. Join the hunting party leaving town and kill it. >

< Reward : 50 Exp, ???>

"Ah, there it is. Sending a novice it to kill a beast. How nice of you, system" he said

He didn't wait for any response, deciding instead to explore the area he was in before finding the hunting party.

He put on some clothes. A black vest and gloves with gray trousers. And started walking out of the house he was in.

It wasn't a very large house but any margin. it was just as big as the house he used to live in back in his other world. It had a large front yard where he saw a few carriages parked in a line to his left, giant lizard-like creatures were standing beside them, with saddles on their backs and muzzles in their mouths. They were used to draw the carriages.

He walked out and saw a few creatures were moving around the place. The Orcs, goblins, and werewolves were predominant in their numbers, and Quinn knew most of the succubi in town lived in the brothel. He walked down the street sidewalks and took in the sights, there were witch doctors selling potions and ingredients, large male orcs wielding giant swords and showing them off to passers-by in hopes of selling them off, and small goblins selling fruits and foods on the streets. He didn't know what some of the fruits there tasted like, but he could recall the names of some of the stranger ones in his memories.

There was a round pink fruit with a green antenna on its head called Pean or as it was more popularly known, the 'drunken daydream'. Apparently, it gave very vivid hallucinations to whoever ate it. There was also a red fruit in the shape of an egg that could hop on its own accord. It was known as a Ringo and had to be kept in a box constantly to prevent it from running away.

Quinn chuckled at the image of a man chasing a Ringo around town as he turned a corner in the street

"Oof"

"Ah!"

Only to run into someone and tumble backward and to the ground

Quinn looked up and saw he had run into a female ogre with one small horn on her forehead. She had green skin, yellow eyes, and full red lips. Her attire consisted of a white top and brown leather trousers that went well with her red hair. she also had a sword on her back and a knife at her hip.

Her eyes were currently wide as she gaped at him.

"Could you get off me?" Quinn asked

The girl gasped and quickly scrambled to get off him. She stretched her hands out to help him up and looked mildly surprised when he accepted it.

"I'm sorry for running into you," she said, "I wasn't looking where I was going"

"No, it's my fault, I was lost in my thoughts and didn't see you coming" he replied while dusting himself off. He then looked at her, "So are you an adventurer?"

The girl bobbed her head at his question "Yes I am, I was actually on my way somewhere" she said while moving to get past him

"It wouldn't happen to be the hunt for the great boar, would it?" Quinn said to her retreating back "Because if it is, I would like to accompany you to it"

The girl turned back to Quinn with shock evident on her face. "I'm sorry, but, are you not the lord of this city?" she asked

"Oh, so you know who I am? That's good, at least I don't have to explain too much"

"Why would you want to come with me on a hunt if you are the lord of the town? Aren't you meant to be resting on your mansion or any of the other things that Lord's do?" The girl said to him. The distaste she felt towards him seeped through her tone just a little, but Quinn noticed it.

'Not a fan of Lord's I see.' he thought

"Well, I would still like to accompany you to the hunt, even if I'm the Lord of the city."

The female orc seemed to be in deep contemplation as to why he would want to go on a hunt for a beast that could very well kill him. He wasn't wearing any armor, and he didn't seem like the fighting type due to the lack of any defining muscles on his body.

'What exactly is he playing at?' She wondered

"Well, I suppose you can accompany me. But you can't go in there without a weapon at least" She took off the knife from her belt and handed it to him, "So take this one. And try not to die."

Quinn accepted the knife from her. It was a simple military knife in a leather sheath. He could have easily bought a knife for himself, but he didn't refuse her aid. It was a nice gesture in an otherwise unkind world.

"Thank you...uh, I never caught your name"

"Oh...It's Helga"

"Right. Thank you...Helga"

"That's fine. Now, come on. We're already late enough as it is"

The two then fell into step and proceeded towards the forest outside the city.
