The Lost Children

As we head back to the facility, my palms start to sweat, my heart starts to pound so fast that I can hear it in my ears.

“Ishelle,” Cyclamens calls and grabs my arm to get my attention, “I-uh-I…don’t have the words. I’m probably going to be part of this experiment as well and most of the army will be forced to volunteer.” “They are going to kill me,” I say with a blank expression and I don’t meet his eyes as I look straight ahead, then I turn to look at him and shout, “You’re not talking about an experiment here. You are talking about taking a part of us, our children, just so you can understand how we work and how that affects you. This is the most messed up experiment so far.” Cyclamens sighs, “I’m sorry. I wish I could fix everything. I wish everything could be fair for all of us.”

He puts in the code, and I go through the door alone, but his eyes don’t leave me until I disappear from his view.
