CHAPTER EIGHT

Walking in my sleep

Like the naked trees

Will they wake up again?

Do they sleep? Do they dream?

Feel it as the wind stroke my skin

I am moved by the chill

Hear the winter bird sing

My tears are always frozen

I can see the air I breathe

Got my fingers painting pictures

On the glass in front of me

Lay me by the frozen river Where the boats have passed me

by

It took me a few minutes to recognize that I wasn't the only one singing but I didn't care; I continued singing.

All I need is to remember

How it was to feel alive

Silent things

Violent chase

We are dancing again

In a dream, by the lake

My tears are always frozen

I can see the air I breathe

Got my fingers painting pictures

On the glass in front of me

Lay me down by the frozen river

Where the boats have passed me

by

All I need is to remember

How it was to feel alive

Rest again my pillow like the

ageing winter sun

Only wake each morning to

realize that you're gone

So I drift away

To winter I belong

My tears are always frozen....

"That was cool." Mira said smiling and wiping a tears from her eyes that looked invisible to me because of the dark night.

"Yeah." I breathed out, staring at the sky.

"I just heard you singing and i decided to join. It felt.....it felt like." Mira said short of words or unaware of the word to use.

"Like those good old days." I mumbled.

"Deja Vu." She said then snickered.

"You weren't sleeping?" I asked.

I noticed her expression changed immediately but before I could decipher it; she masked it.

"Turn your face towards the sun and the shadows will never find you." She mumbled more to herself quietly.

"What?" I questioned perplexed.

"Nothing." She replied, offering me a little smile. "Just don't feel like sleeping."

"Okay." I responded.

We stayed quiet for about ten minutes; the cool breeze blew tremendously as we both stared at the sky. All I saw was a better world, a better time and I hoped for a calm, free world.

"Ain't it possible not to sleep?" Mira suddenly asked.

I raised my eyebrows at her.

That was strange.......

"Don't you know of the demons at night?" She asked again.

Seriously?

"All I see is angels at night." I replied.

She just nodded, averting her gaze away from me.

"What demons?" I questioned curiously.

She looked at me for a few seconds then turned back to the sky.

"You don't want to know." She said, her face already blank. "Don't let curiosity get the best out of you; they say curiosity killed the cat. Also what you're looking for is seeking you." She then turned to me with a serious expression. "Aurora be careful."

Truth be told, I can't fathom what she's trying to say.

But my dad advice rang inside my head again. I should be careful, be careful of life; careful of what I do and say.

I looked at her, my face still confused.

"You know some things are better not known; with knowledge comes it's consequence. Like I said, don't let curiosity get the best of you." She said without glancing at me.

Well I love unraveling, uncovering and revealing. Didn't they say curiosity killed the cat, satisfaction brought it back?

I just sighed.

"Do you know my name is Mirabelle not just Mira?" She questioned trying to change the topic.

I shook my head.

"Do you even have any idea I wear eye glasses?" She asked smiling.

"No." I replied briefly.

"Okay." She stated simply, standing up. "Going to sleep, see you in the morning." With that, she climbed up the stairs leaving me alone in the dark. Time should be past 10:30 or even 11pm because I know the appropriate time for us to sleep here is 10pm.

***********

I kept turning and turning in the dark as I lay in my bed. I couldn't sleep and I had no idea why. When I got here time was 11:20 and Mira was already sleeping.

I glanced at the clock and it read 2am; I still couldn't sleep.

Suddenly, I heard a scream, a voice that was pleading; pleading for mercy and another scream again. Of course, I recognized the voice; the same voice I talked to few hours ago.

I looked over at Mira bed and I saw her turning restlessly in her bed. It was dark but I could still see her and hear her screams and pleading voice.

I quickly stood up and walked to her bed; staring at her, unaware of what to do. I looked over at Lizzy bed and she wasn't even there. Where the hell is she by this time? I looked back at Mira who was already sweating profusely and crying uncontrollably in her sleep.

I decided to wake her up but immediately my hand came in contact with her skin, she started pleading again.

"Please don't, please." She begged in her sleep as the tears fell freely from her face but it kept getting worse.

I gently touched her again but she screamed.

"Please, just please, I beg of you, don't." She still pleaded, her lips quivered and her body was tremulously shaking.

I tapped her really hard this time. She quickly rose up and was about to yell but when she saw me, she covered her mouth still sobbing.

I climbed up to her bed and hugged her closely.

"It's okay." I said, caressing her back and also stroking her hair gently. After few minutes, she laid down again to sleep. Minutes into moment, I noticed she was already sleeping again and breathing softly.

I released a long breath and glanced at Lizzy bed that was empty. I gently stood up and walked to my bed; climbed to it and laid down to sleep but the sleep didn't still come even though my eyes were closed.

I heard the door open, I snapped my head to the other direction where I could see the door but my eyes were still closed. I opened my eyes a little bit and watched as a figure carefully sneaked inside. The figure gently closed the door and stood in front of the free bed which was meant for Lizzy.

"Shit." She mumbled as she looked over at Mira's bed. She pulled off her hoodie and fell to the bed tiredly.

What was Lizzy doing out by this time in the night?

Why did she just come?

Curiosity better not get the best of me.
