Bride

Over the lush green hill, there was a mansion that was beautifully decorated with peach and pink roses, the lanterns which were placed on the perfectly trimmed grass emitted warm light.

The neatly spread flower petals lead to the wedding altar, which was a domed-shaped frame decorated with peachy pink roses.

The tables beside the aisle were flooded with food of every origin, accompanied by the finest of beverages.

The dreamy scene slowly began to fill up with people in expensive dressing.

Inside one of the rooms of the mansion, An old man sat with a twisted expression as he spoke to the lady in a vine red dress.

“Where is your son?” His voice had anger mixed into it.

“Father-in-law —that, he will be here any moment now!” She spoke in a timed manner.

“Stop covering up for his mistakes, tell him if he isn’t here in half an hour, I will make sure that he doesn’t get a cent from my fortune.”

He rudely ended his words.

“Yes! I will tell him to be here soon,”

The woman left the room bowing her head.

“Micah, where are you?” Her slightly trembling hands tapped her phone screen, and took the phone close to her ear.

“Pick up the phone Micah!—“

Her face looked tired as she lightly tapped her leg on the marble floor in confusion.

“Yes, mother?”

“Sigh,” she breathed a sigh of relief.

“I thought you wouldn’t pick up, Where are you? Grandpa is looking for you and he is not very pleased because of your absence.”

“(Exhale) He will regret his decision because she would never be a wife to me, ever,”

His voice was annoyed and he spoke repulsively.

“Be here within twenty minutes, or you might not like the next thing your grandpa does,”

She ended the call with a worried face.

……………………………………..

The faint smell of flowers was in the bride’s room.

Renya sat on the chair staring at the continuously vibrating phone,

On the couch not far away from the bride sat Renya’s friends who looked at her with envy-filled eyes, Aoifoi got up and walked up to the bride and puffed up the white gown.

“You are so lucky, I wish you all the happiness in the world,” she wished her genuinely.

“You think?” She replied emotionlessly as she stared at her reflection in the mirror,

She looked like a living doll, with her long black hair curled into a messy bun, her cheeks lightly tinted pink and her petal-like lips painted red. She looked pretty but her eyes were blank, with emptiness in them.

“Yes! Who won’t be? You are marrying into the most desired household. It’s every girl’s dream,” the other one on the couch stood up and walked closer to her.

“I never had such desires,” Renya looked down at her hands nervously and mumbled under her breath tiredly. Sadness could be seen in her every gesture,

‘Knock, knock,

“Let me check,”

Aoife walked towards the closed door, She opened it up with great force and saw a servant standing outside. He said something to her and Aoifoi nodded,

“Sure” and she turned around and walked back to Renya.

“The groom is here, they are calling you.”

Aoifoi, who was also her bride’s maid, gave her the news.

“Hmm…”

With a nod the bride got up from the chair, her body swayed lifelessly. She looked exhausted. Her legs seemed reluctant to move any closer to the altar.

‘Creek—

The heavy wooden door was pushed open, just a few steps into the hall. She saw black boots before her. She lifted her gaze to see the person who was waiting to escort her through the aisle, towards the wedding altar. And to her surprise, it was Grayson Scott, her stepbrother. His face was cold as an ice block and his gaze was merciless, even though he was a handsome guy he didn’t have a partner because of his rotten personality. But today he looked different. His hands were clasped nervously and his indifferent gaze was filled with worry.

When his eyes fell on his sister, he fixed his posture and lifted his hand, and held it out for her.

Renya was shaken, she had not seen him act like that in a long time, Since Eryna had left the mansion. She stared at him for a few seconds and finally grasped his firm hand, unlike she had thought, his hands were oddly warm and soft that gave her comfort for a while, he stopped for a moment as if he had something to say, his corner of the lip twitched but decided not to say. His grasp was firm around her hand in a protective way. The door to the garden opened allowing the warm light welcomed Renya’s eyes.
