She Was Engaged

"The wedding is done, sir."

"I know." The man replied but he kept his eyes on her. He was outside watching, hiding in the shadows. Her eyes illuminated satisfaction and pride as she grinned at everyone congratulating her.

From time to time, her eyes trained on her knight husband as if she were living a lovely dream.

He was watching it all. The shy glances, hidden smiles–everything he wished to see her doing with him.

"Sir, your parents must be worried. Let's leave now." Why must he torture himself?

"Do you see she is so happy today? Happier than I have ever seen her. Her eyes are shining with pure delight like her life aim has been fulfilled." He caressed the tree as if caressing her face. At this point, he did not care if someone called him crazy.

"Do you think I should give up now?" He asked, adrift.
