Chapter 5: Wow!

I shook my head, as I wondered why those old memories kept popping up in my head. They were cool memories at the time, but now it just hurt a lot, knowing that they were gone now. I closed my eyes for just a few moments as well, as I did my best to shake it all off.

After standing there for a bit longer, and doing nothing, I could tell that the others were starting to get a bit frustrated with me. I heard a bit of a sigh from Pike, which was not normal for him, as he usually let me take my time with stuff like this.

Not this time though, as it seemed like they were all a little bit too excited to go and see what it was like out in the wild. It was not like we were even going to see much, besides what it looked like outside of the fences. We were not actually going to be walking around out there.

I shook my head once again though, as I remembered what Nut had told us just a few moments ago. He had told us that this was going to be step 1 of us actually going to see what it was like out here. I knew what it meant, it meant if we were good with this, than he would take us a bit further next time.

To be honest, I was a bit excited for it as well, but at the same time, I knew that we were doing this behind our mothers back. If she caught us, we would get in a lot of trouble, or worse, Nut would be the one that would get in trouble, and we might end up having to move away from this place.

I was never the biggest fan of Nut, like my brother and sister were, but I knew that he, and his two legs, they kept us safe. I did not want to risk that, and I was now starting to have 2nd thoughts on whether or not this was really a good idea.

I sat there for a bit longer, as it seemed like my head was getting swarmed with those thoughts at the moment. I heard the annoyed voice of my sister Gift, which luckily took off all of those thoughts, but at the same time, I could tell she was very upset.

"Limp! You are not going to ruin this for the rest of us! If you are too scared to go out with us, than go back inside!" She hissed at me. As soon as she had said that as well, I opened my eyes, and I squinted my eyes directly at her as well.

She did not looked phased by it at all, as I knew that she was not scared by me, nor to my surprise, was she scared of my brother, who she often got in fights with, knowing that she would end up losing anyways. Or maybe, she was just so high on herself, that she actually thought she might win.

I shook my head, as I knew it was not where my thoughts needed to he headed towards right now. My sister did not know what was going on with me right now, but if I thought it through her head right now, I would understand why she might be a slight bit upset with me at the moment.

I saw my brother Pike, with a bit of a look on his face, as he came up to me, to sooth me out just a bit. I was a bit confused as to what was going on at the moment, but I also kind of understood where they were coming from. It was not that I was scared of seeing what it was like, but it was more that I was scared of getting in trouble.

I did not want to even think about what would happen if we ended up being caught. I shivered a little bit, as I looked at my brother, who still wore that same sad look on his face, which was starting to annoy me just a bit, but I listened to what it was that he had to say to me anyways, as after a bit longer, he then decided to speak.

"Limp look... If you are afraid, just go back inside... Just do realize that you will be missing out on all of those cool stories that Pintclaw and Brokenfoot had told you." He said to me. I stared at him for a few moments, as I was still a bit annoyed with him.

It was not the fact that we were going out here, that I was afraid of, it was more the fact of being caught by our mother, and us getting in a lot of trouble that I was more scared for. I shook my head though at the same time too.

I knew if I did not go through with this, than I would always be a step behind my siblings. Nut knew more about where our mother had gone today, so I am sure that she was going to be gone for quite a while, as she usually was on most days.

I knew that she had fallen in love with another cat, and I knew that Nut did as well. I felt a bit bad for Nut as well, as I knew that he had always been in love with our mother, but she had always just viewed him as a friend, even when he had taken us in, and let us have a home.

I shook my head on those thoughts once again, as I knew that as was getting lost in my head, as I always tended to do. I then looked back up, at my brother, and my quite angry sister, that just had her eyes squinted at mine, and locked on me.

I shook my head, as I knew that my focus should not be on her right now. I did not need to care what she seemed to think. I then looked over at my brother Pike, as I then nodded to him. He nodded back at me, as I began to speak to him.

"Its not just that, I just don't want to get in trouble with our mother." I said back to Pike. Pike looked at me for a few moments, as I he then nodded back to me, as it seemed as though he now understood just a little bit better than he did before.

Gift did not seem to really comprehend what I had just said to them, as I saw that she still had her eyes squinted at me, and she still had a bit of an upset look on her face. I shook my head, as I knew that I needed not to worry about her at all right now.

I looked over to Nut, who I was the most worried about in all of this, as to see how he would respond to all of what we had said. He had his head down low to the ground, which was not a good look for me, as it got me even more nervous than I had just been a few moments ago.

I sat there for a bit longer, with the others, as we all just stood there in complete silence, as it seemed like no one had a word that they had to say to each other. But it was my sister Gift that broke the silence. I wanted to say that I was finally thankful for her, but I knew it was just going to be her attacking me.

I turned my head around to her, as I stared at her for a few seconds. I saw that she still had her eyes locked on to me, and she still was squinting at me. I rolled my eyes, more at myself, and then I listened to what it was that she had to say.

"No! You are not ruining this for us Limp! You ruin everything! Mom is going to be gone all day, like she is every day! Don't you understand that?" She said to me. I knew that she was not trying to attack me this time, as the words that she had said to me, might have sounded like it.

I could tell that she was more just not wanting to be disappointed. I felt a bit bad for her, as I knew a part of what she had said, was in fact true as well. I lowered my head to the ground at the same time too. As I heard my brother at my side, just as he usually was, no matter the circumstance.

He then hissed at my sister, as he got a little up close with her. My sister moved back a little bit, as I could tell she was a bit surprised, but I then saw that she squinted her eyes at my brother, as I could tell that she was a bit angry that he had my side.

She knew that my brother wanted to see what it was like, just as much as she did. I stood in front of my brother and sister, just as I normally did, that way it did not cause a fight. They seemed to relax themselves a bit, as they both looked a bit surprised to see me step up this time.

My brother was the one that looked to be the most surprised out of the 2, but I could tell that my sister was as well, even behind that angry look on her face, as well as having her eyes squinted at me, and locked on me at the same time as well.

I shook my head to the both of them, as I was a bit tired of all of this non sense if I was going to be completely honest with myself. I looked at the both of them for just a few seconds, as I hoped for Nut to step up, and to help me with this.

I looked over at Nut however, as I saw that he still just had his head down low to the ground, just as he had, when I had looked over at him a few moments ago. I wondered what it was that was going on with him at the moment, but I shook my head, as I had more important things to worry about right now.

It was all just silence for a few seconds, as I waited a bit longer, for my sister to break it, and to say something a bit mean to me, just as she typically liked to do. But after a bit longer however, it did not seem to be the case, as I shook my head once again, and then I decided that I was going to speak.

"You 2 do not fight... I am tired of it... I do not ever like to see it. Just relax, the both of you... I will go out with the both of you... Okay?" I said to the both of them. I looked over to my brother for a few moments, as I saw him nod to me, with a bit of a smile on his face as well.

The biggest surprise out of all of this, as I came to find out, was that my sister Gift all of the sudden ran at me, as she jumped on top of me, and began to roll around. At first I had thought that she had began to attack me, which made no sense, since we had just came to an agreement on something.

I saw my brother look a bit surprised for a few seconds as well, as I saw him poke his claws out, ready to have my back, until he realized that Gift was just playing around with me. Gift then lifted herself back up, into a normal stand still spot.

I did the same as well, as I saw her breathing in heavily just a bit, as I could tell that she was very happy, and that she was very excited. My brother began to slowly walk towards the both of us, with a bit of a surprised look, that we had finally managed to agree on something for once.

In the background, I saw that Nut still had his head down to the ground, as it seemed as though he had not been paying us any attention over to last couple of minutes. I was now beginning to get a bit worried, that he was going to be the one that was going to back out of this.

I shook my head though, as I turned my head then over to my sister Gift, who I could tell was very happy right now, in fact, more happy than I had seen in a long time from her. She had a big smile, as I nodded to her, for her to go ahead and speak to me.

"Thank you Limp! You are the best little sister ever!" She said to me. I looked at her for a few moments, and then I rolled my eyes at her. Even when it seemed as though she had a complement to give to me, she would always have some secret message as to tell me that she was still better than I was.

It did not make sense to me, as we had been taken out of our mother at separate times, but we had all been born at the same time. I shook my head though, as I knew that I needed not to be worried about that at the moment, as both my brother, and my sister than began to gallup over to Nut at the same time too.

They then stopped, as they got over to Nut, as they saw what I had seen a bit of some time ago. He had his head down low to the ground, as it seemed as if he had a bit of a sad look on his face as well. I slowly began walking over to my brother and my sister too.

Nut suddenly seemed to realize that we were all waiting for him now, as he lifted his head up, with a bit of a sad look on his face at the same moment, but it also seemed as though he was a bit happy as well. I was a bit confused as to what it was that was going on with him right now.

He smiled at all of us, as my brother and my sister looked at each other, as I could tell that they were a fair bit confused as to what was going on with him. Nut just shook his head, as it seemed as though he was trying to clear his thoughts. After a bit longer as well, he then began to speak to all of us.

"Are you guys ready?" He said to us, as I saw my brother, and my sister seem to quickly forget the strange look that he had just had on his face, as I saw that they were both excited, as they both nodded to Nut. Nut smiled at the both of them.

I was still a bit confused, and also a bit worried for him at the same time too, as I wondered what could have possibly been going through his head just a few moments ago. Nut nodded to him, as he began to walk ahead of all of us, Gift and Pike were very quick to follow.

I just could not bare it any longer though, as something seemed to be a bit off with him still, and I just felt like I could not live with myself, until I found out what it was, that it could possibly be. I stopped, as I then began to speak up to Nut.

"Nut... Are you alright? You did not seem to be just a few moments ago." I asked him. He kept on walking for a little bit, as I could tell that he had heard me speak to him. But he then took on what it was that I had just said to him.

He then stopped, as he lowered his head to the ground once again. I felt a bit bad, he might have gotten it off of his head already, and I had just pushed it back in to there. I lowered my head to the ground, as I saw both my sister, and my brother looked a fair bit upset at me this time.

This time it seemed like my brother was going to take my sisters side, and I also felt a bit bad for them, because I had been holding this off for quite a bit of some time now. At this rate, we would never get to see out by the fence. Our mother would get back to the house, by the time we had the chance.

Gift looked back at Nut, as she saw that he had his head down low to the ground, just a he had not too long ago. I could tell that she was angry at me again as well. She hissed at me, but she did not attack me, as she then began to speak to me in a very angry voice.

"Limp! Just shut up! Let us go and see what it is that is out there! We can ask questions later!" She hissed at me. I looked at her for a few moments, as I realized that she was in fact right with what it was that she had just said to me.

I nodded to her, as we all turned our heads back over to Nut. I saw that Gift had her eyes squinted at me, as she saw that he had his head back down to the ground again. I felt a bit bad for him, as I knew there was something on his mind that he did not want to be there, but for some reason I felt like I just had to keep pushing and pushing.

We all sat there for a few seconds, as all of the sudden, Nut finally lifted his head up to all of us, and then he nodded to us at the same time too. We all then stopped ourselves, as we waited for him to go ahead and speak to us. After a bit longer, he did in fact do so.

"It is okay... It is just... Well you will find out very soon... But there is a reason that I want you guys to see the wild first." He said to us. I looked at him, as I was a bit confused as to what it was that he had just said to us, and what he had meant by it.

I sat there for a few moments, as I saw that both Gift and Pike were both very confused too. I was not going to find a theory from either of them. I almost wanted to ask Nut to just tell us, but I also knew that I had already pushed it a bit too far as well.

I shook my head, as he then nodded to us, for us to follow him. Just like they had done before, my brother, and my sister seemed to get the thoughts of what he had just said to us, quickly out of their heads. I squinted my eyes at them, a bit confused as to why they had such a short attention span.

I shook my head, as I began to follow them anyways, as we walked past the nice yard that we were in. The grass was grey and brown, just like we had been told had happened around this time of the year, and there were no leaves, nor flowers on the trees.

I almost kind of wish that we had waited a bit longer too. Maybe if we had seem this in the newleaf, as we had been told by our grand parents, than it would have looked a lot nicer than it did right now. I shook my head though, as I saw that Nut had stopped, now that we were right beside the fence.

Nut sat there for a few moments, as all of the sudden, he then sprung up in the air, higher than I had ever seen a sat fly up before. He then easily landed on top of the fence. He looked around for just a few moments, and then he turned his head back to us, and then he nodded, as he then began to speak.

"Come on you guys... Limp if you have a bit of a struggle jumping up, I will catch you... You guys can jump a lot higher than you think you can." He said to us. I squinted my eyes at him at the same time too, as I felt a bit embarrassed by the fact that he had said that I would need help.

He had not mentions the other 2 at all. I shook my head though, I had a limp, but that did not mean that I was weaker than other cats. Sure, I might be a bit smaller than them as well, but I was actually quite fast, as I always won around the house when I raced my brother and sister.

I shook my head though, as I saw that both Pike and Gift were looking at me, as I could tell that they were a fair bit scared as well. Pike then shook his head though, as he then looked over at Nut, and then he nodded to him at the same time too.

Pike then looked over at Gift, and then he smiled at her. I looked at the both of them, a bit confused as to what was going on. Suddenly, Pike then turned his head back over to Nut, as he all of the sudden then jumped. He did not jump nearly as high as Nut did, but he still easily landed on the fence.

Both me and Gift had very surprised looks on our faces. I saw that Gift was no longer scared of doing the jump now however, and I wish that I could say the same thing about myself. Gift sighed, as I then heard her whisper a few words to herself at the same time too.

"I will show him!" She said, I rolled my eyes, as once again, she had to make this a competition. She looked at me for a few seconds and then she shook her head, as she then ran over, and did the same thing that Nut and Pike had just done.

She jumped high enough, but her landing was not as smooth as Pikes was, as I saw that she nearly toppled over, if it were not for Nut stopping her. I sat there for a few moments, as seeing that Gift had struggled a little bit, I then began to get a bit scared.

I was not going to lie to myself, as I knew that Gift was stronger than I was. If she had struggle getting up to the top of the wall, than I did not even want to imagine how bad it would be for me. I was starting to have 2nd thoughts on whether or not this was really a good idea for me.

I saw that Gift already had her back turned, and she was already looking out in to the wild. She did not seem to have any look of excitement on her face at all, as far as I could tell, and it made me really start to question my decision on this.

Maybe it was just because it was not the newleaf yet, or maybe our mother was right, the wild was not as cool and fun as our grand parents had made it seem, and it was more just scary and boring. I shook my head though, as I turned my head to Pike, as I heard him begin to speak to me.

"Come on Limp! You will never hear the end of this from Gift if you don't at least try." He said to me. I looked at him for a few moments, as I thought through what he had said. It still was not enough for me, as I knew that my sister made fun of me for just about everything. Pike then shook his head at me, as he kept on talking. "It really is not that hard... If you don't make it, you wont die..."

I looked at him for a bit longer, as I then blinked my eyes at the same time too. I knew that a part of what he had said was true, I knew that it would not kill me to try. I sat there for a bit, as I was also still a bit afraid. It was easy for him to get up there, but I was not nearly as strong as he was.

I lowered my head to the ground for a bit, as I was so scared, and I still was not sure about this. I closed my eyes, as it almost seemed like Pintclaw was in my head, trying to tell me to at least try. I shook my head, as I knew that he was right as well.

I had to at least try to see if I could get up on the fence. I could not live with myself, if I did not do so. I then opened my eyes, as I looked up at my brother, and then I nodded to him at the same time as well, I saw him then smile at me, as I did the same for him too.

I then looked over to Nut, as he nodded to me, letting me know that he would keep me safe, and that he would not let me fall to the other side. I closed my eyes for a few moments once again, as I did my best to relax myself at the same time as well.

It was going to be alright, I got this, It was like Pintclaw had told me. I would never get to see my strengths, if I did not at least try. I opened my eyes, and then I nodded more to myself, as this time I did not hesitate, like the times that I had before in my life.

I then began to run over to the side of the fence, faster than it almost had felt that I had ever ran before. I then jumped at the same time as well, as I saw that Gift had turned her head around, to see what was going on.

I smiled a bit, as I landed on top, and I was perfectly safe, just as Pike had been. Nut did not even need to catch me from falling over. I looked over at Gift with a big smile, as I could tell that she was a bit jealous, as she then looked away from me.

I shook my head, as I knew that I could not be like her, and that I could not just make everything a competition. I looked away from her, as I knew that I needed to focus on the main reason that I had done this in the first place. I then turned my head over to behind the fence.

It was the first time that I had even got to see what it was like out here, and I was so excited. I looked around for a few moments, as I just blinked. Were my eyes deceiving me? This was really what the wild looked like? All I saw were a bunch of two leg places that seemed to go on forever.

I then heard some dogs barking from a long ways in the distance, as it scared me a bit, until I realized that they were not barking at us. I shook my head, as I then lowered it to the ground, a bit disappointed at all of this, at the same time as well.

This was really what they called the wild? I had been told that there was a magical lake, and pond... There was territory that went on forever, that no two leg owned. But what I saw in front of me right now, seemed to be a bunch of two leg places that never seemed to reach an end.

I saw a bit of a disappointed look on my brother as well, as all of us were a bit disappointed too. I almost felt like I should just give up, and go back inside of the house. I shook my head though, as I then heard my brother begin to speak to Nut.

"This is it? I thought there was supposed to be a lake... Lots of other cool stuff too." My brother said to Nut. Nut looked at him for a few moments, then I saw a bit of a confused look on his face. I lowered my head down low to the ground, even more than I had before.

It seemed as though, our grand parents had either been lying about what it was like, or they had been over exaggerating. I was even more disappointed than I had been just a few moments ago, as I was just about to jump down to the ground, until Nut then began to speak back to Pike.

"Oh... This is just the twoleg place we are looking at right now... The woods are behind us... The lake is a long ways away though... I have never been there before, I have only been told stories about it." He said to us. I looked at him for a few moments, and then the excitement then came back to me.

I was disappointed at the fact that we would not get to see the lake, but I was happy that this was not what they considered the wild. I looked down at the ground for a few moments, as I was a bit lost in my head at the same time as well.

I knew that Pintclaw, and Brokenfoot had told us that the lake was a long ways away, but I had at least hoped that some day we would be able to see it together. I shook my head, as I looked over at my sister, Gift, as I heard her begin to speak back to Nut.

"Well why didn't you tell us that before? I was scared for a few moments." She said back to him. I let out a bit of a snort, as I agreed fully on what it was that she had just said. Nut looked at all of us for a few moments, as he rolled his eyes at us.

I looked at him a bit confused for just a few moments, as I saw him look over to the other side of the fence, that was a bit of a ways behind us. I could not see behind the fence, so I could not see what it was really like out there in the wild just yet.

I stared at it, as I tried lifting myself up, hoping to get a quick glimpse, before my brother and my sister had the chance to do so. I could not see anything however, and I nearly fell off of the fence at the same time too. I shook my head at myself.

We sat there in silence for a bit longer, until finally, Nut decided that he was going to speak to us. Both my brother, my sister, and me, all turned our heads over to him, to hear what it was that he had to say to each one of us.

"Well... I figured you should see what it was like here first..." He said to us. I looked at him a bit confused for just a few seconds, but then I shook my head, as I figured I should not question his decisions. Nut sat there for a bit, and then he continued to speak. "Well... You guys follow me!"

I looked at him for a bit longer, as he then nodded to us, for us to follow him, as he began to walk down the sides of the fence. My brother, who was behind me, as I could see was watching his steps, to make sure that he did not trip, and fall off of the fence.

I saw as well, that my sister had the same idea too. I turned my head in front of me, as I figured that I may as well do the same, as I did not want to fall, and break something, then fall on the other side of the fence, out where all of the dogs might come looking for me.

I kept on following Nut, as I looked up a slight bit from time to time, just to make sure that I did not lose him somehow, though there was not really a place to lose him at anyways, as far as I could see. I kept on walking til I got to the corner of the fence.

I stopped myself, a bit confused as to what it was that I should do now, as I saw that Nut was ahead of me, and he just nodded to me. I was still a bit confused, but I could tell that both my brother and my sister were behind me, and they were starting to get annoyed as well.

I went ahead and walked across the corner of the fence, and followed the way that Nut had gone. Nut nodded to me, and then he kept on walking. I looked down once again, to make sure that I did not trip, and fall on the ground.

I then made it to the other corner of the fence, that meant that we were on the other side, and at the place that Nut had told us about. I was tempted to lift my head up, and see what it was like out there, but I did not want to be greedy, and I wanted my brother and my sister to get the same opportunity that I had.

I kept on walking across the corner, until I gave my brother and sister plenty of room on their side of the fence, to lift their heads up, and see what it was like. I looked at them for just a bit, to make sure that they were both safe.

I saw that both my brother, and my sister had excited looks, and surprised looks on their faces. I wondered what it could be, as I then turned my head, over to the place that Nut considered the wild. I sat there for a few seconds, as I gulped, and then 1 quick word came out of my mouth.

"Wow!"
