Chapter 25

As they were being led by the guard, Reid thought to use the short time to see if anything had changed.

His stats were still the same, the only difference being his level and stat points that had increased.

'Just him alone was able to push me straight to level 9. Though he wasn't too strong, it was to be expected.' He thought as he looked through his status page.

'Huh? That's new.' There had been an addition to his page that he wasn't expecting. Lien…the currency of remnant. While it is a pleasant surprise knowing that he could earn lien while leveling up, that raised a question.

Why did it show up now and how? The only thing that he could think of was that the system was evolving.

'If that is true, then what are it's limits and will it grow again? Would it affect me in any way? He briefly glanced at his skill tab to notice that a few skills had leveled up. Those ones being; [Flash Step], [Aura Flow], [Throwing Mastery] and [Combat Mastery].

He then noticed a new skill that had appeared.

Dust Resistance[Passive][level 3]

It was a welcome surprise. It would be useful should he attempt such a thing again. He held in a sigh as his thoughts ventured.

'It looks like I need to start working on it very soon. I can't keep relying on dust.' He thought, his mind going to the dust crystal…that was seized by his mother.

The last part made his eye twitch as he recalled how she snatched it from his hands and never returned it.

They quickly entered the main area of the house to see Ghira, Kali and Blake waiting for them. After leading them here, the guard left, no doubt going to continue his duty.

"It's nice to see that you're alright." Ghira spoke heavily and relieved as he saw Reid before he developed a confused expression.

"Where's the other one?" He asked with a raised brow.

"He's asleep." Silva ground out to Miko and Reid's amusement.

"Either way, I want to thank you both for what you've done today. You saved my daughter and for that, I am in your debt." Ghira spoke before his wife also chose to speak up.

"If it weren't for you two, we'd have lost her. We don't know how to thank you." She spoke hugging Blake to herself. Miko glanced to Reid to see his reaction, only to be disappointed when it didn't change.

"Don't worry about that." He started, surprising everyone in the room that he didn't ask for anything and considered it trivial.

"We've got something more serious at hand." Reid said as everyone turned serious.

"Someone is after my daughter. Bad enough that they'd send an assassin to do it." Ghira said gravely, being the first to officially speak on the matter.

"The question is why. Why do they want her dead and who ordered the attack?" Miko said throwing around questions.

"Did you find anything that could give us any clues?" Ghira asked but Miko and Silva shook their heads.

"There was nothing on him that could implicate whoever is behind this. We didn't have much luck with his body considering the…state he's in." Silva spoke, reminding everyone of how the assassin ended.

Some spared a quick glance at Reid but it didn't affect him in the slightest.

"The answer is right in front of us." Reid spoke after a short period of thought.

"What exactly do you mean?" This time it was Kali who asked.

"He was waiting for us when he attacked us, meaning that he already knew we were here. At first he said his goal was Blake but only after he was left no option did he decide to fight us but that was an impulsive decision on his part." He paused, letting what he said settle before continuing.

"Had he succeeded, all people would understand is that humans came to menagerie and killed the daughter of their chief. Worst of all is that nobody will believe us. We're humans in the land of faunus. I highly doubt they give us a trial." He explained in detail.

The adults all stared at each other for a few moments before they all settled on Miko who had a proud smile. Silva was the first to take a bite.

"What do you feed him?" He asked Miko with all seriousness. They were all still reeling from the shock of the accuracy of the analysis when he continued, ignoring Silva's question.

"The question we should be asking is, who would benefit from us not making it out of here alive?" He finished and everywhere was silent. He knew who he asked that question to so there was no need to specify.

"A lot of names come to mind but I'm not sure which one of them could be behind it." Miko answered surprisingly.

"I'll take my leave now. I have to train." Reid said curtly and left without leaving room for anyone to interject. His mother threw an exasperated look at him for his nonchalance as he exited the room.

Ghira let out a short chuckle that confused the people in the room.

"What's so funny?" Miko asked curiously as Ghira had a serene smile on his face.

"Nothing. I just finally understand what you meant. He really does have a gifted mind, even more than you said. The future of the Uchiha is in good hands." He said causing her to smile.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In a dark room far away, a hooded figure could be seen pacing around in visible frustration. It didn't stop until the sound of a door being opened rang out.
The hooded figure faced the door that was just closed and the individual that came into the room.
"Are you stupid?! I warned you not to do anything stupid and you do the exact opposite!" The hooded figure scolded harshly as their voice was now revealed to be a male.
"What the hell are you talking about!" The other figure that just entered asked, their voice not giving away their identity as they slowly walked towards the male.
"Did you think I wouldn't notice your little stunt in menagerie!? That 'assassin' you sent did nothing more than alert them to the fact that someone's out for them! He failed his mission. The mission I told you not to do!" He yelled, the irritation clear in his voice.
"You're getting worked up over nothing. They're not going to figure out anything. And what do you mean he failed?" The second figure spoke as they finally came out of the shadows revealing a familiar face.
"Your assassin didn't even touch the girl. My contact saw her fleeing from the scene where the fight happened. They weren't able to see who fought him but your pawn is dead." The male said as he brought out his scroll which displayed a picture of said assassin with a gaping hole in his chest.
"That doesn't mean that they're going to figure out anything. For all they know, it could be from one of the many people who hate the white fang. After all, her father is the chief." The second figure tried to play it off but was quickly interrupted by a shout from the first.
"You're a fool if you underestimate Miko's intelligence. She'll figure it out soon enough and when she does, it's over." He said before pausing.
"There's a reason you're not the head of this clan and there it is, Vivian." He finished, calling her name and hitting a sore spot, evidently by her immediate frown.
"And what do you know!?" She bit out bitterly.
"Enough to warn you that if you go behind my back again, you're on your own. And we both know how that's going to turn out." With that, he disappeared into the shadows, leaving Vivian in the room.
Knowing that she was now alone, her calm facade disappeared as she grabbed a nearby chair and smashed it against the wall, sending pieces of wood everywhere.
'You'll see…You'll all see!' She thought as a deranged smile crept unto her face.
