Magic

Magia Academia, the largest educational facility that not only teaches magic, but also martial arts and swordsmanship. This academy doesn't take in students who don't have the potential to become a mage, swordsman, or martial artist. Royalty and nobles have the privilege to study in this academy because from the day they were born, it has already been concluded by the heavens that they have at least one talent between the three.

However...

"Hey, that's not how you cast a spell." I turned to my right to see Adonis sneering at me as he leaned his back against the tree comfortably. I decided to ignore him and continued on what I was doing.

Ever since I was a child, I never had a talent in magic. When my Father knew about this, he was terribly disheartened, but he did not put the blame on me. He knew that if I had no talent as a mage, then my talent probably lies between the remaining two—either as a swordsman or a martial artist.

But my Father's pride as the emperor did not let him agree to my teacher's request to let me learn swordsmanship or martial arts. Most noble women who don't have the talent in magic were taught neither swordsmanship nor martial arts. Instead, they were just asked to stay at home and that was the same case for me, too. But now that I'm here, I'm going to train harder to become a mage, and if not, I... I will learn how to become a swordsman or a martial artist.

"I told you it's not like that." I ignored him once again. I took a few deep breaths to calm myself. Of course, I knew better than anyone else that Adonis is one of the most powerful mages in the entire empire, and maybe even outside the empire, but my pride just wouldn't allow me to be dictated by this man. "I can handle this myself," I said as I tightened my grip on my wand.

"Dummy." I froze on my feet and slowly turned to him, scrunching my eyebrows. "What did you just say?" I asked as I glared at him. "Dummy."

"Hah! Do mind your words, Adonis. Even though we've known each other for a long time and your sister is my friend, I still wouldn't allow you to insult me like that. I am still the princess of this empire, and insulting me is insulting the imperial family." My words were firm and full of authority. I've had enough of this man. There's only so much I could take, but this is the end of it. I won't allow him to speak that way further.

He rolled his eyes and stood straight. He started walking towards me which has taken me by surprise.

I... I did not expect him to be like this. Was I too weak in his eyes?

I gritted my teeth as he was closing the gap between us slowly. He stopped in front of me and smiled—not the usual annoying smile he has on his face, but a genuine one.

"Keep your cool. You are a princess, aren't you? This isn't how a princess should behave, is it?" He said as he placed his hand on top of my head.

Strangely, instead of getting angrier because of his action, I had calmed down. He's right. I shouldn't act like this.

"Alright, that's it. Now, give me your wand. I'll show you how it's done," he said as he remove his hand from my head and extended his arm in front of me. I did not protest anymore because it was then when I realized how pathetic I looked. I was too butthurt because I knew that he's better than me in this aspect and I was just too prideful to accept that fact.

"Krishiella?" I looked up and saw that he had tilted his head a bit as he stared at me. "O-Oh..." I handed him my wand and he told me to go to move and go to the tree where he was leaning his back earlier.

"Look closely," he said as he glanced and me and faced front right away. He took a few deep breaths and focused his eyes on the target I had prepared for myself earlier. "Compose yourself, gather the mana inside you, and transfer it to the wand." After that, a red light was formed on the tip of the wand. The light gradually grew bigger after a few more seconds. The light from the wand took off and hit the target in the speed of light, destroying it into pieces.

"That's how you do it," he said with a smug look on his face as he turned to me.

Hah. I knew that the expression he had on his face earlier wouldn't last long. Knowing his personality, one could tell that that annoying look on his face would appear again.

"It may look easy, but it's actually hard. You would have to have great concentration and a calm mind to be able to do something like that," I said as I walked towards him.

What I said was true. Mages have to chant a spell may it be mentally or verbally to be able to use a spell and it requires great concentration to visualize a certain spell that you want to use. The larger and more complicated the spell is, the harder it is for a mage go use. Usually, people with calm personalities are the ones who have the potential to be a mage. I'm not doubting Adonis' ability as a mage of course, but knowing his personality made me think that the stereotype people have made for mages was not correct. Anyone could possibly have a potential to become a mage regardless of their personalities and that gave me a little hope.

"Just try it," he said as he handed me the wand. I held the wand tightly and closed my eyes, trying to calm myself before chanting a spell mentally.

'Oh, goddess of the wind, lend me your power to form a wind blade.'

And then suddenly, the wind around me started blowing the leaves on the ground.
