Asura crouched down as Xia hopped off his shoulders and both of them looked at the scenery before them with excited eyes.
Xia: "Finally! We're finally out in the open again.."
Asura: "Haa, we finally left that goddamn scorched land. That was so tires---"
*Whoosh!*
.
.
.
*BOOM!*
Several rays of light pierced the quiet night sky and fell in the center of the scorched area where Asura and Xia came from a while ago, scaring the two children out of their wits.
A terrific sensation started spreading from that direction as invisible aura rapidly diverged in all directions. As if feeling the fear in Asura and Xia, the clothes they've previously recalled back inside their bodies abruptly appeared and merged together, turning into a half-transparent irregularly shaped dome around the two.
The energy inside Asura's and Xia's bodies started depleting at the same time the semi-transparent barrier formed around them. If one took a good look at the barrier around them, they would find it has a shape of a small rock. The only strange thing is why there would be a rock in the middle of grassland, but since there were other smaller and bigger rocks in vicinity, it wasn't that eye-catching.
The two only realized they weren't breathing when the terrifying sensation from before disappeared, as if blocked by this barrier. A red-colored dot appeared in the distance, becoming larger as time passed. A several moments later, it appeared right above them, leaving behind a blazing red trail of light in the sky, only briefly hovering above, seemingly checking something and then continued on its path.
Asura didn't dare use his ability to see what it was, but considering that there was a similar red-colored ray among others that fell from the sky, it wasn't hard to conclude it should be some kind of creature, maybe it was even a human. While it was above the rock-shaped barrier, there was only a deep red energy sphere with a dark shadow inside, so it wasn't really visible what kind of creature that shadow was, but the two didn't even care. They only hoped that this barrier could completely hide them from the thing in the sky.
Asura concentrated his consciousness around the purple seed he'd sealed away before and felt connection between him and Xia establish once again.
Asura: 'Dare I say, something big must've happened for so many of those to come check out this place.'
Xia: '...'
Asura: 'It seems like our awakening indeed was a bit unusual, since it was able to cause a commotion big enough for such powerful figures to check it out... We're really lucky that we have these clothes.'
Xia: 'I actually didn't expect that those clothes could hide our presence like this. It really seems like we've wasted our entire lives' worth of luck on this day.'
Asura: 'Let's wait and see what they will do, after that we need to quickly find a shelter somewhere, otherwise this thing will suck our energy dry in a blink.'
Ah, how clueless the two were about what kind of artifacts their clothes were. Things born from Divine Flames that burned down the entire land to the ground. They were basically bringing the that whole land with them, by wearing these sets of clothes. Beings of this world wouldn't even be able to wear them if their energy wasn't compressed enough. Only by compressing it a thousand times, to the standard of the energy within the two's bodies, could others think about using the ability of these clothes. It's not something mere mortals were worth of using, yet they had no idea that was the case. If the purple serpent knew the energy it'd been reforming its entire life was barely enough to satisfy two sets of clothes when reformed, who knew how many times it'd die out of despair. It's only sin in life was eyeing these two clueless fellas, yet it was the greatest sin it committed, and also its final sin. The price of that sin was its everything - cultivation, life and even soul.
Xia's hand drifted around until it found Asura's hand and only when it felt the warmth from being grasped did it slightly relax. All this time, the two have been staring at the sky in the direction of the crater left behind by the lake that almost took away their lives, where several bright dots of light drifted around, looking for something which was, most likely, the two of them - the cause for irregularly shaped circle of scorched ground.
Asura didn't dare focus too much in their direction as he guessed that beings of that level are very sensitive to the feeling of being watched. That's why he hugged Xia and nestled her head in his arms, not allowing her to watch either, as he closed his eyes as well. Only after the two felt fresh energy and faint breeze graze their skin did they open their eyes to find out the barrier around them disappeared.
Those several rays of light were already outside of this planet's space as they became a pair of dots in the sky, resembling stars. The direction they headed to was the massive planet in the distance, the Spirit Star.
Asura and Xia finally breathed out a sigh of relief, knowing that immediate danger to their existence had passed, yet felt once again their powerlessness. If it wasn't for the pair of clothes saving their lives once again, they would've been in grave danger if found by those who came down to investigate. Luckily, those beings left before their energy got sucked dry by the clothes.
Asura: "I wonder how long has passed since we came to this world..."
Xia: "I don't think its more than four hours, but I'm not sure how long we were unconscious for. At best, we woke up immediately after fainting so after walking for three hours to come out of that damned desolate land, we can say at least three hours."
Asura: *sigh*
Xia: "Hm? What's wrong?"
Asura: "In a short few hours, we almost died twice... I always thought about how cool it would be to reincarnate inside a world like this after death, but as expected, reality is very different from fantasy. I've not felt this powerless even in my past life as I did these two times, even though I'm much stronger than the past me now."
Xia: "..."
Asura faced Xia and kissed her to calm the chaotic feelings inside both of them. He felt as if that softness and warmth were the only things that could calm him in this world.
Xia felt blissful every time their lips met together, as if every time they kissed, they became one. After having her hair ruffled by Asura's warm hand, the two carefully inspected the area around them and started moving with their senses stretched as far as they could.
Asura activated his unique ability, feeling everything around them in a radius of a hundred meters, and intended to seal the purple seed in his mind, as the two had quite an embarrassing experience because of it, but just as his consciousness came in contact with it, a strange thing occurred.
Xia's pupils suddenly contracted as she froze in place, her eyes reflecting extreme disbelief. Almost immediately, she looked straight at Asura's eyes, seemingly demanding an explanation with her strange gaze.
Asura's eyes narrowed as he felt her questioning gaze fall on himself: "What's wrong?"
Xia's excited voice urgently asked: "I-Is this your ability?!"
Asura: "Hm? What do you mean?"
Xia: "This reflection of the world that I see in my head, is this the ability you told me about? You know, the one about being able to see the world in an unique way."
Asura's eyes quickly matched the state of Xia's as he became dumbfounded. But that only lasted for a moment as he became excited as well.
Asura's hands fell on Xia's shoulders in the midst of excitement: "Can you see it too?!"
Xia: "Yeah, it seems... it feels exactly like you described! Everything is reflected as real three-dimensional world. I can feel everything in extreme detail, although it doesn't show what's inside the objects! No- wait, I can see even inside rocks and trees if I focus on doing it. T-t-this is amazing! I can't believe such an ability exists!"
Asura's brows furrowed as he thought about it a bit and figured out that it's probably because of purple seed in his mind. When he sealed purple seed again, the consumption of his energy got cut in half. He didn't even notice that it was getting drained twice as fast as before.
Xia: "Ah, now it disappeared!"
Asura: "It's like this..."
Asura explained the situation about the purple seed and after the two tested it out some more, they continued on their journey but decided against sharing this ability as it drained energy twice as fast. Since they didn't know how long they would take to reach a civilization of some kind, they didn't dare take any risks as before. After all, they were still too weak to survive in the cruel wilderness.
The lessons they learned during their short stay in this place will be difficult to forget even if they wanted to. Although the reality was as such, the harsher their circumstances right now and the more effort they had to use in order to survive, the more capable they will become as beings.
As Asura got to know in his previous life, one's character gets shaped since childhood. If they had such a heavy responsibility now, then they will grow up more experienced and capable than others their age. Considering that in life and death situations, experience plays as equal role as power does, this experience will surely be useful for something later on in their lives. If nothing else, at least it'll remind them through their lives about how weak they are and make them remember not to be conceited brats just because of a few achievements.
