CHAPTER 2- REGISTRATION

Skye held my hand like a baby and I walked side by side with "the Skylar Edwards", the popular quarter back in Queensland High. Don't wonder how I found out. Hehe, news travel fast. Still in my reverie, I could hear Skye call out inaudibly but I was lost in my own gossip club.

"Are you doing alright?" Skye asked, snapping his fingers in my face.

"Oh, did you say something? I'm sorry." Indeed I felt very silly, as I blushed crimson.

Even when I felt safe that Skye was there to show me around the school, I felt attacked as I could see the various eyes drilling holes at the back of my head. Thankfully, I went with the ponytail look that gave me an added aura of confidence; as the sides of my head went out to reveal my perfectly fine feline eyes. I felt like the Queen of the party but I had to put up the frontier that I was afraid of being bullied and I mostly felt protected by the mere fact that Skye was there to dot on me, even if I just bumped into him.

Some girls in the hallway kept shooting evil glances and darting their raging faces in my direction.

Skye held up my hands and we moved along in a hitch free fashion.

On arriving at the admission office, I smiled gratefully and took out my admission letter and some other necessary documents for review before I could become a fully acclaimed student.

Skye was there all through and I kept wondering if I wasn't being selfish.

I mouthed an, "I'm sorry you're here rather than at practice."

"It's alright, you are welcome." He replied.

Feeling awash with relief, I walked to the reception.

"How may I help you?" A petite young woman with "Ashley" pinned to her clothes inquired of me.

"Hello ma'am, I'm a transfer student. I'm here to submit the forms."

"How wonderful. You're welcome darling. I hope you enjoy your stay here in Queensland High school," she quipped excitedly.

"I really appreciate ma'am. Thank you," I said while returning the forms in a Manila folder before hurrying to join Skye outside the office.

"Everything alright, Princess?" Skye asked as soon as I stepped out of the admission office.

"All is good, thank you. I'm just exhausted," I reply in exasperation, blowing out the breath I held in the office from sheer nervousness.

Glancing at my phone, "it's almost noon, time actually flies really fast. I need to get settled in before the next class and I'm so hungry," I was lost in thoughts.

"Hello, Earth to Chloe!!!" He snapped his finger in my face and my line of thoughts got interrupted.

"Oh, dear me! I'm sorry, I just blacked out like that. The stress is already getting to me." I tried to sound unperturbed but I was already regretting the whole start over phase Aunt Samantha created for me, by sending me here to complete the last year in High school.

"Don't worry too much, alright? It's one of the perks that comes with changing schools. You're going to be fine." He assured me.

"Thanks for the pep talk. Do you know where I can get something really nice to eat? I'm starving."

"Of course. And, you are welcome to ask me anything."

"Haha, hold up before you lay an open cheque before me. I'm a very curious soul. First things first, lunch." I said with an air of finality.

"Yes boss, let me take you to the Food Court managed by Janelle, the school's best chef with various diplomas from touring the world and delighting the people with her amazing recipes." He bowed in mock courtesy.

"How nice!!! When it comes to good food, I'm game." I reply gleefully.

We arrived at Janelle's Food Court and the line almost made me faint; it was really long, also coupled with the gnawing feeling in my stomach that signified my famished circumstance, I sunk into a seat to regain control of my jelly like legs.

"Hey, are you alright? You almost passed out for a split second." Skye was worried.

"Oh, I'm fine. I startled you, sorry. I'm just hungry and I need to eat."

"Not to worry, I can take your order, just secure the seats. What would you like?" He asked.

I was feeling like a princess and I could tell my face betrayed my emotions which I was trying hard to conceal. He was really being sweet and it felt good to be doted on.

After looking at the menu, I settled for some Mexican food, "I'd have some tortillas and a yoghurt. Thank you for your help." I smiled at him.

"One tortilla coming right up with the yoghurt." He said in the regular waiter tone, as he literally just took my order.

"Haha, thank you. How about you?"

"Good old salad and sour cream with some cheeseburger would do."

"Great. A big appetite you have. Please, move along." I tease him, shooing him to the queue.

He turned to leave and I noticed the pair of eyes boring holes in my whole body, I couldn't help but chuckle.

I waited a few minutes before Skye returned with a tray of what I ordered, as well as his food. "Here you go, bon appetit." He placed the trays neatly on the table and sat.

"Thank you. Besides, you scurried away before I could even comport myself enough to get my wallet," I feigned annoyance.

"It's nothing, I had the intention of paying for lunch before you even got hungry." He smirked.

"Haha, silly."

We ate in silence but rather hurriedly, as we had a Literature class in a few minutes; we had to settle in before the teacher walks into the class. The queue delayed us and I was rather grateful Skye and I were not just schoolmates but colleagues.

The bell indicating lunch break was remaining five minutes rang and the race to class began.

We were halfway down the hallway in time for class and we were just in time before the teacher walked in and shut the door.

"Close call," Skye remarked.

"Indeed, we made it just in time." I replied in a whisper.
