The Inn

When I walked walked into the Inn I was relieved to see very few people in there. The people that were in there were busy drinking or talking to someone. I noticed some lightly dressed women in the room sitting on laps of very drunk men and I already knew who they were. I've seen a lot of movies and shows like this with women who sleep with men for money. I didn't really like using the words "slut" or "whore" but that is what they were called.

I realized I was just standing there at the door staring and people started to notice me and gave me a look. The chatting and laughing stopped as everyone examined me. Erevan leaned forward and whispered in my ear.

"Don't pay attention to them. Just hurry up and get a room so I can get the rest of the supplies we need for our trip. Hopefully we will only need to stay here for a few days."

I nodded my head and started walking to the front table where I assumed the owner of the building was. He was nothing like the man in Barnsey. Instead of having a larger figure he was rather thin and tall. He wasn't lanky though but he wasn't very muscularly either. He was perfectly in between. He had bright orange hair too and had rather odd blue eyes. I expected him to have green like me since that matches with his hair. When I approached him he gave me a rather big smile and and folded his arms.

"Afternoon miss! What can I get ya?"

I looked around again and noticed that everything went back to normal and cleared my throat.

"You are the keeper of this inn, correct?"

The man nodded his head and his smile seemed to have gotten even bigger.

"Yes miss."

"I would like a room for me and my servant here please. Just for a few days. How much will that cost?"

"Well I reckon you'll want a nice room yes?"

"No Just a simple small one will be fine."

"Alright then three gold coins a night."

I pulled out the pouch with our money and handed him the first three coins for tonight. He gladly accepted them and handed me a key to a room.

"That's the third rooms key. Second one on the left. And the gold pays for the food as well so please help yourself anytime."

I gave him a simple nod and smile before walking off.

I found the stairs quickly and soon the room as well. I unlocked the door and walked in with Erevan right behind me. Once inside the room we both let go of some air we didn't realize we were holding. We looked at each other and laughed at that moment.

"I didn't really think that would work," Erevan said as he took off the hood of the cloak. I looked at him confused but my grin was still on my face from laughing.

"Why is that? Did I do something wrong?"

"No that's not it. This town is a little more weary of elves and to be honest you look more like an elf then a human. It's mainly the hair but you also have a presence to you. But everyone noticed your ears and relaxed. Still, I'm sure that others still thought you were like a sorcerer though. They may not like people who use magic but sorcerers are rare and always in the kings court so they wouldn't attack you."

That was a bit of information to obtain.

"Sorry but I don't really understand. I'm sure you've figured this out already but there aren't 'elves' in my world or magic."

I laughed a little to myself when saying that. Erevan though stood there with a blank face.

"Really? That's strange. What if there were but your world chooses to hide it?"

I was about to respond when I stopped in my tracks and thought about it. For all I knew maybe it was something hidden from people of my world. But why?

"I never really thought about that."

"What is your world like anyway?"

I looked at Erevan a little surprised that he asked that question.

"Well its way more advanced then things are here. Our buildings a much bigger and we have technology."

Erevan didn't quite understand that last word.

"Um technology is... how do I describe it? It's something we use in our everyday lives. Like cars and phones."

He looked even more confused.

I gave out a frustrated sigh and looked off trying to think of how to describe things. It was just so common in my time that it was hard to really describe.

"Why don't we just talk about your world? I mean, I'm going to be stuck here, right? Might as well learn more about it."

Erevan cleared his throat and shifted on his feet.

"Well this world isn't just elves and humans and whatnot. There are other species. After the war though they chose to go into hiding or they were just killed off. No one really knows how many are left."

"War? Didn't you mention something like that before?"

"Maybe. Might have been someone else. The war was a couple hundred years ago. People are still tense about it. There are those out there that still think it's not over since no side really 'won'."

Erevan had a look on his face l couldn't quite describe. It was like a mix of remorse and pain.

"You weren't in the war but I'm guessing someone close to you was?"

"No I was in it. Elves have a much longer lifespan. I was young then. My friend and I were in it. We were actually pretty eager to fight for our species, you know? But we didn't realize how much the humans had advanced."

Erevan stopped as if remembering things. He looked so hurt. I cleared my throat and looked off to the side.

"That's enough for today. You still need to go out and get stuff, right? I'll wait for you here."

"Alright. I won't take long since it'll be night soon. You should take up on the food they have here. We are paying for it."

I nodded my head and sat down on the bed. I watched as Erevan brought up his hood. He grabbed the pouch of money and opened the door. But before walking out he looked back at me and smiled.

"Don't get yourself in trouble while I'm gone, got it?"

I laughed a little and rolled my eyes.

"Yeah yeah whatever. Just go already."

He gave me one last look before walking out the door. The door clicked behind him as he closed it and I listened to his footsteps as the walked away. Once I couldn't hear them anymore more I fell back onto the bed. My face was hot and my chest felt tight.

"This can't be happening."
